"traditional" East Asian martial arts don't tend to focus on self defense, but rather self mastery. That's a big difference. I love Karate, but it takes time to learn practical uses of it. Stuff that focuses on partner work is going to work better. For Karate, that pretty well narrows it down to kyoukushin. Arts that are instilled via competitive practice are going to be the best answers.
What class should women take? Something easy to learn. I think the main self-defense mechanism is being aware of your surroundings at all times and trusting your gut.
Judo to get them down without following them, plus Krav or Kali if you can find a good school. Then look at Kevin Secours downloads. He has good lectures on avoidance, awareness, psychology and dealing with situations. Basically all the stuff you need to know for the real self defence work, which is that you're safest if you could avoid it or get out of it in the first place.
Like that chat most tradition based martial arts don’t usually focus on self defence in the modern world as well as not realistically training. Thank you.
No. That's idiots who are giving away black belts too easily. The Okinawan styles still primarily focus on self-defense and we spar full-contact as close to no rules as humanly possible without killing one another.
lol. no. I tap out Gracie black belts based on what I learned in the Isshinryu Karate class. I know over 200 Japanese Jiu Jitsu submissions from the Karate class, and the Gracie Black belts have no idea how to fight me "For Real" because I punch ten times harder than anything they've ever seen, and I kick more like 15 times harder than anything they've ever seen. Boxing is a joke. I beat a Professional boxer by boxing rules when I was only 16 or 17 years old.
Good chat. I'd like to see more of these 'side-chats' incorporated into your podcast. Thanks...
All of them.

Aikido and/ or Judo are excellent for women. Add some Jujitsu in case you're taken to the ground
@@benmacdhui Thank you. 🙏🏻
@@DL_2025_A Trust me...I can throw a punch. 😂

@@herbertwurm3245 Thank you. It looks like I have everything in my general area that everyone has mentioned here, so I have a lot of options. 🙂

What about genuine (not commercial) Krav Maga? It seems to hit all the fingers 8:34
Not sure what you mean. It ostensibly prepares you to defend yourself in almost any situation without regard to dogmatic martial arts rules
It’s not a martial art. It’s not designed for tournaments. It’s a practical self defense system
@@DL_2025_A no disrespect but your reply does not seem to make sense. I suspect you know little or nothing about krav maga
Go to any legitimate Krav Maga class and what you’ll see are defensive responses to attacks, not assaultive techniques
