Some years ago I visited The Netherlands and together with a Dutch relative (I am Dutch but was neither born nor raised in The Netherlands) took a train from Amsterdam and Haarlem to Delft. On the way we passed through endless farm fields, and in some areas you'd see strange box-like buildings in the middle of an empty field. I asked my cousin what those buildings were and he said, "they're farms." And I said, "I can see that's all farm land, but what are those buildings?" And he said: "They ARE the farms!" I still don't really know for sure he wasn't having me on, but apparently those buildings were hydroponic farms, with multiple crops raised on two or more levels, literally tripling the output of the original farmland they stand on. Again, I am not sure how common this is, but it does show how the Dutch seem to be absolute masters at finding solutions. The same applies, for instance, to their insanely clever and innovative approach to traffic management and creating safe housing areas.
I am Dutch and aware of our situation about food production. For years, I want to visit the Philippines, not because of the beautiful woman but because of your incredible and beautiful nature. I already did Thailand, Vietnam and Indonesia in 2022
The whole issue of nitrogen compound emissions is a soap opera of governmental failures and farmer reluctance to work constructively to solve the issue. Basically The Netherlands put into law some 30 years ago restrictions on nitrogen compound emissions, but then didn't police those restrictions. About 4 years ago a environmental group found out that this law was in the books and wasn't being enforced, so they sued the government. They won the lawsuit and the government was forced to enact these emission limits. With farmers producing more than 40% of the nitrogen compound emissions (through fertilization of the soil and other sources), the government then announced a plan to restrict the farmer's nitrogen production allowance, which would mean that lots of farmers might not have a viable business anymore. Instead of handling this in a cooperative way, which is how things generally are solved over here, suddenly we got a clash between farmers and the government, which 4 years later still hasn't been resolved.
Haha, I'm Dutch, I live on the sandy soils near the sea. Nothing will grow in the dry sand, So, I take all the horse shit from the street and mix it with dirt, My tomato's are big and tasty, like my parika's and peppers an unions etc. I don't even have a garden, I use the amunition-boxes from the second world war to grow my food.
China and milk. I would call it the Nutrilon famine. (You know the powdered baby milk stuff) It was so bad in China, that we had to limit people buying it here in NL. As Chinese bought up any and all of it, to ship it to China. So the moratorium was, you can only buy one Nutrilon product as costumer, so there would be enough to go around. This was a few years ago, but it was so bad that they decided to open a factory in China just to prevent this happening again.
The nitrogen problem is not primarily because of climate change. It is to preserve the soil and drinking water for future generations. The Dutch government is a bit stuck, as it is the EU that demands drastic lowering of nitrogen emissions and they come primarily from certain farms (and industry and a bit from traffic).
It's not the complete story as I understand it Ronald. It's the Dutch government who made the choice of using nitrogen as the indicator against climate change. The EU now uses this self imposed indicator as a steering mechanism to keep our government to it's promises. I know the EU gets blamed, but in this case I think it's our own government who is to blame for making poor choices.
Recent research shows that the nitrogen carbonoxide "problem " is just 0,01 percent. The EU is after farmers of the whole of europe, because it wants to produce everything in ukraine, where the laws are not so strict. Meaning it is very cheap. They try to destroy farming in europe based on conspiracy theories from researchers paid for by self serving interest. But farmers are mass protesting, and are winning the fight.
In America food is produced for profit. That's the only motivation to produce 'food' We produce healthy food to keep our country healthy and happy. Capitalizing on the vulnerable needs of humanity is something that doesn't even come to mind. That's why Monsanto sells sterile seeds while we sell happiness and independence.
we always find a solution girl ! )) we are Dutch ! and u should know by now that " ït ain"t much if it ain"t Dutch " lol

Food laws in Europe in general are far more strict when it comes to GMO's. I grew up in Portugal in a fishing town and most of food in Portugal and Southern Europe in general tends to be of much better quality and fresh than Northern Europe. Southern European cuisine is all based in fresh ingredients and they're paramount in when it comes to cooking. Also, when it comes to food production, most people don't know that about 30% of food is wasted. By the way, the Poppy farms are beautiful and very real. They're amazing to visit. I've been there a few times and it's a beautiful sigh to see.
No, We here in the Netherlands will find always an solution, it can takes awhile but we can Talk Talk until we find a midway [Polderen] the problems are the rules from Europe, how we make them work here but we will come out of this problem, of cause .... Were Dutch!!!
The Dutch government does care about it's farmers but it just cares a little more about the future of ours kids. The government acknowledges that if drastic measures aren't taken the future will be very grim, for farmers and citizens alike. It's so sad that with so many people believing in conspiracy theories these days it's made very hard and many of them incite protests across the country. I wish more people would get a little more educated (not google science) about climate change and the effect we humans have on it.
you mean 0,01 percent. These lies already have been debunked. researchers paid for by self serving interests. most of these numbers get sucked out of the thumb in the EU with some high level bureacrat wich is far away removed from reality.
Everything what america does with their food is illegal in europe. hence the reason why lots of american food is forbidden to be exported to Europe. like american beef chicken and milk for example. Corn from america is also illegal to be exported to europe because of GMOs so we grow our own corn. i can name so many more things. but yeah food quality in the US is really bad compare with the rest of the industrialized world. The reason why the EU banned it is because of the risks of cancers and other illnesses.
There's always hope! But as our government just collapsed and there will be elections in november, I think a new government will be formed not earlier than summer next year. Maybe even later. We have so many political parties and they all want something to say....
FYI: Rotterdam is the main reason for the high agricultural export figures. Belgium is also in the top 10, mainly because of the presence of the harbor of Antwerpen. These deep sea ports allow for easy and cheap imports of food for the huge livestock situated in the Netherlands and Belgium. So they import cheap soy for example to feed the huge pig farms, and can export expensive meat around the world. However it is a fact dutch farmers are the most productive in the world.
Roky, if you keep on talking during the show, it is hard to understand cause in the same time two people are talking. Better to stop for a moment and say what you want to say.
High tech comes at a cost. Much of this Dutch high tech relies on cheap energy and fertilizers, both of which came from Russia. The Netherlands imposed harsh sanctions on Russia which now serious endangers the livelihood of Dutch farmers who now have to pay a lot more for their means of production.

the government sued back because it was done by a corrupt non governmental organisation, wich had no legal right to sue. The government won.

Wasn't it more something that we send people to educate the chinese on how to make it safely?

This just shows how pathetic we are as a species... We have no excuse for allowing people to go hungry. 🤦

Don't talk when the dutch man tells his story, that's annoying and he know's where he talks about, you not.

The Netherlands did that because they are puppets of the US. they rather be a puppet then taking care of their own citizens.
sanctions are released. We wont simply obey the EU anymore, because they where non legit. And sactions are a act of war. this has been reversed.
