Fishing line Garden Fence - 30 Lb Test Line - FAIL! :(

- After watching numerous You Tube videos on how to put up a simple fence with fishing line to keep deer out of your garden we gave it a try.
We purchased a 400 Yard spool of Stren High Impact 30 Lb fishing line for $7.00 at our local Walmart at the time of this filming, more then enough for 6 rows of the line around our 30'x50' garden area.
Within a week of putting it up we found two rows broken at around knee level, we fixed it and a few days later more lines were broken in the same area, it don't seem to deter them or even come close to stopping them:(
So we concluded that this won't work in our situation, our deer just walk right thru our fence, they don't even try to jump it they just walk thru it so we removed it and it's back to the drawing board:)
Sorry for the shaky video, we freehand the camera, no gimbal:)

Thanks for sharing I was going to do this with our garden but now I’m having my doubts:)
Glad it was helpful!
If you are having a garden this year what are you going to do?
The way things are going in our country we may start a garden again but we need to update the fencing, probably a combination of chicken wire and cattle fence to a height of 7 feet like we use to. And the garden is going to be totally rebuilt, so we may not plant this year but it's in the plans:) Thank you for asking and watching we appreciate you doing so:)
Have tried this and numerous techniques… the scent stuff works… we have so much rain its impossible to keep up and its expensive and i really don’t like the smell… anything I do, they get accustomed to it all… we had to do 8ft 4x4 fence with rabbit and cow panels… i know this will work :)
That is the route we will go, we use to have a 6’ fence back in the day but our hard winters eventually destroyed it, I will use cow panels next like you say, that will be more durable, the plastic deer fence they sell never holds up for long, our snowfall destroys it:)
@@thisoldmobilehomeinthewood8434 Yes sir you are right… i had the combo rabbit/deer netting and the netting became brittle… also they jumped the 7ft on a very slight incline… thus going 8ft this time …the deer figured out the deer netting was weak where it joined the rabbit fence and they started squeezing in between the two…in a hastened repair we doubled the netting on the back side of the fence and set a trail camera… The deer actually pawed at the netting to break through… lordy lordy
@@stonecreek1929 sounds like the deer we have on our property, no fear, when I mow our lawn they will stay right near me grazing, not run off, I have never seen deer act like that on our property especially around our noisy rider:)
@@thisoldmobilehomeinthewood8434 Yes agree … they are not afraid… of course we have two opposing neighbors that feed them corn everyday… our population grew this year… three large bucks and three baby deer… At any given time , we can be surrounded by a herd… I can walk up to them because they think I have food… If i do scare them they only run away a few feet… I have nothing left in the yard … only what is fenced in right now… Will be making a tasty lead recipe soon ;)
@@thisoldmobilehomeinthewood8434 Heck, you, the stranger, what are you doing in my territory? LOL...
thicker more expensive line or wire would work fine
The thicker the line for us and the deer can see it and all they do is jump over it, they are amazing animals to say the least:) Thanks for watching
Thanks for this, good luck with the deer
Thank you, we too were hoping this would work.
The deer jump in
Hi, our deer didn't really jump in they pushed right thru the fishing line like a bulldozer:) It was weird:) Thank you for watching:)
At least 8 feet
Yea they didn't jump over they basically just pushed right through until the lines broke, it was weird:) Thank you for watching:)
