Hey… I’ve been following you for a month or so. You may not have insider info and you may not be the most knowledgeable reviewer of the e-ink products. But I really liked your style: unique, honest, interesting, great jokes, great energy, good editing of videos. I love the jazz music in the background, too. I hope you will get more viewers/subscribers and get invited for reviews in the future.
We may be disappointed in specs etc. But this release is what makes changes, new and better tech. We should be applauding RM for beeing in the driver seat of innovation. This is what makes competition up their game and this is what leads to better tech for us consumers. My boox go 10,3 got stolen on tusday, wednesday I ordered the rm paper pro. I may be disappointed, but I think this will be a game changer.
You won't be disappointed bro, not at all. It will be a awesome machine, and you're right, it pushes innovation. My gripe really isn't with the tech, because, to me, the screen is super impressive, and absolutely necessary for mainstream color adoption. Kaleido 3 wasn't and isn't the way, it's more of a stop gap measure along the way to better technologies, like this Gallery 3 screen in the rM Paper Pro. Besides that, it's going to be to best built device of 2024, without a doubt. I'm getting one as well, even though I know I'm not who they are marketing to. I'm getting it because I know for most people, it's going to be all they need, and I'd like to be a helpful resource for those people... as well as my power user homies who wouldn't touch this with a 10' pole lol. Thanks for the comment bro!
Don’t stress about not “being first, behind, or catching up”, we can all watch the other channels. We came here for your POV the other “firsts” and invitees were more about impressions and such - which is good. But I listened (didn’t not view since I was focused elsewhere) to those guys and frankly, production value = 10, content = 2 “find previous tech content, replace with RMPP content-voila” - each episode for those channels just sound the same regardless of product. You good dawg. All good.
Hello, and I agree! I reached out to reMarkable and they were kind enough to send me one out a unit. So I'll be experimenting with it, right along with you. Stay tuned, I'm gonna find out just what this thing can do. Thanks for the comment!
I’m surprised by your disappointment tbh. The fact they added a front light and gallery 3 color while at the same time decreasing screen to surface distance and latency is I think going to need the gold standard for colored eink
Absolutely. Though I'm not wow'd by the device (as a whole) I do think it' what they should have done, and I am, however, impressed with the screen technology. How they managed to keep their pen to eInk distance so low, even with a frontlight (No extra layer needed for Gallery 3), that's the question. Thanks for the comment
@@rantsabouttechnology I will concede that the 229 ppi and the price are definitely disappointing, but as a NA3C and Go 10.3 owner, I feel like this device can replace both of these and given reMarkable’s pedigree, I took a chance on this
I'm an architect, and the most difficult thing in good design is the ability to remove the unnecessary. With all due respect to many of the comments I see on this video, I can tell the commenters are not a regular user of the Remarkable 2. I've been using it since December 2021 and it's value is that it's not trying to do everything like a tablet. It's easy to compare a remarkable product to competitors on specs and see the remarkable fallen short however if you ever use it on a daily basis you'll find like I have that it becomes an indispensable piece of tech.
The reMarkable is a very good, well-designed and executed device. It's "simple" UI design and Tools are a plus for the majority of people. Majority being the operative word here. My viewers are oftentimes more power users (The minority) who need way more tools than what the reMarkable devices provide. That's not to say that the devices are bad, just their simplicity isn't a plus for us. I own and use the reMarkable device, not as often as my Supernote or Boox Go 10.3, but it has its uses, like when I'm doing collaborative work and other people who aren't familiar with eInk devices, will be handling my device - I choose the reMarkable in those case. Anyone can pick it up and use it within minutes, or even seconds. You can never cover all the bases, and reMarkable chose the ones they wanted to cover, leaving some, like me, unattended to. For the most part. Thanks for stopping by and for leaving a comment. I value all perspectives :)
Yeah. Agreed. My paper journal with fine paper and with expense leather Italian cover and expensive Montblanc Fountain have simple features (duh) and I find it a joy. Easy to use. Not gonna lie, I have all the current M4 and A15 tablet sizes. A few Galaxy tabs and folds. And now a Boox Go 10.3 and a recent RM2. I love digital. But love the touch of analog.
@ivecadit I totally agree. I do not need colour or backlight on this device. What I miss on my RM2 is encryption of the cloud service and a little bit more speed. At least, existing pain points for me on my RM2 were more software than hardware based
I ordered one right after the livestreamed video finished and as soon as the website refreshed. I was so hyped but I started to regret after I looked at more comments on reddit and on the specs. I blindly thought they improved all the specs in addition to the highlighted features. Among the 3 highlighted features, bigger screen, color display, front light, I am only interested in the bigger screen. Big disappointments/concerns are that 1. The screen resolution stays almost the same as reMarkable 2 (I thought 300 ppi is standard in today's market. I guess they have to make compromise for their unprecedented color e-ink tech. But I am not really interested in color. I just want higher resolution...) 2. The stylus is now an active pen, meaning there is no more customized EMR pen, potentially higher chance of failure?, inconvenience due to needing charging. And did anyone notice - they don't sell replacement nibs for the new pen separately. Does it mean I have to buy a new pen if all of my replacement nibs wear down?? If that is the case, it is so disappointing to see. They probably want to make big profit off the pen alone.
I agree with every point you made here. I honestly think reMarkable has gotten complacent. Since their 5 year old device is still selling like hotcakes even with its miniscule specs. That has emboldened them to continue the underpowered approach that's been working for them. The Paper Pro will sell like hotcakes initially, off the reMarkable name alone but it won't be long before Onyx makes a Boox product that just destroys the Paper Pro. That's my prediction.
i think it's full of great little changes, plus a great big change re: non kaleido color, and does a lot of what i would want in a device but the price is just insane. with the cheaper pen and a non leather, non type cover it's $750 bucks. i just dont think you can in good concious have the worst specs of any major player and come out several hundred dollars higher than the competition, plus charge monthly for cloud services. it's frankly insulting. muchy smaller issue but i also think ergonomically it's a big miss moving the big bezel from the side to the bottom, especially since they're selling a $230 type cover that can only be used in landscape. the side bezel is better for holding in portait and better looking in landscape.
I gotta say, when you're right, you're right. I like your point about the bezels, landscape is gonna look weird for awhile. reMarkable is sending me one out for review, so I'll be able to see just what we working with. Like you, it wasn't a purchase I was comfortable making myself considering who the device is for, and those stats. Thanks for the comment and stopping by.
Supernote definitely doesn't care. I owned both boox and remarkable and the only product that satisfies my needs is supernote. Don't forget about the best pen on the market 😊 they have to do something about their software, to do list and digest. If they do this then okay.
Great video!! I was waiting to hear your prospective!! I don’t like the size, but I love the color display tech they have decided to adopt. Having used a Boox Tab Mini C, I can appreciate colors that pop. If tablets and phones as we know didn’t exist, I would have appreciated the Mini C more. The Mini C and color E-ink tablets that exist today often acts as a tablet that can compete with modern tablets regardless of what the companies that produces them say they are for, and I think because of that, for me I just could not justify the purchase because the colors didn’t pop, and despite the advancements in preventing ghosting, it just made no sense to me to use android apps on an E-ink display when I already have phones and tablets. When I think of the Remarkable tablet today after owning the Remarkable 2 for nearly a year, I think of it as a “Stone Tablet”. At a point in time, people wrote on stone. We eventually moved to paper. I feel it’s the same with the Paper Pro- we have paper, but now we have color paper!! So I can see why you are not impressed. For me, I have always disliked the fact that E-ink did not have color for the purpose of writing because you cannot highlight in yellow on the device. You can highlight still, but to really see it as it should be intended, you have to view your notes on a device that has color to see the effect. This paper tablet solves that issue with having good colors on the device that you are taking notes on. For me, I don’t see a need to have my notes in the cloud anymore unless I really want to view my notes on other devices, something I have not done, but would have if I decided to highlight as I notate and if I wanted to study those notes with yellow highlighting. I think this a great conclusion to someone producing a device that is as close as possible to going to the store, grabbing a basket, putting a writing pad of your choice, a pen or pencil, and a highlighter in it, paying for it, take it home, put it all on your desk and start taking notes. When I look at this device in this way, I think it’s a worthwhile purchase if the use of color is important to you. For me it is, but up until now I have accepted and invested (Remarkable 2, Boox Note Air 2) in taking notes without color to the point where it will be a bit difficult to purchase this one because it has color. I think I will eventually buy it, especially if they offer trade-ins for users that have the Remarkable 2.
Hello and thank you for that breakdown. I agree that I was turned off of color too with the performance of Kaleido 3 screens. Didn't pop enough and low DPI at 150. As such, all of my favorite devices are B/W now. Though I'm not impressed with the device as a whole, I'm super excited about that screen and how they did it and how it performs. They are definitely offering a trade in program for the Paper Pro, should check that out and see what they offering. I'm trying to get my hands on one now, lol. Thanks for stopping by.
@@rantsabouttechnology you are very welcome sir!! I enjoy watching your videos!! The music, how you breakdown your thoughts, the graphics, and I love the shot at the end of the video!! I'm looking forward to seeing you grow!!
They keep the glass screen, which is brittle and more likely to break. They tout the larger screen size to hide the fact that they need a significantly larger battery to keep their two week battery life to accommodate the Gallery 3. I think reducing the max colors to 20k was a smart move; it might improve power efficiency. And the ecosystem is still restrictive compared to Supernote, e.g., no syncing with OneDrive. The screen looks nice and the marketing is slick, but I think I'm going with the Supernote A5X2.
@YusufMumtazI honestly think proprietary pens is where the market is headed. This is the second new device in as many weeks that's made their pen and tablets exclusive to the device. I hope not though.

RMPP specs are only disappointing to those who expect running 3rd party apps as those require more power. Remarkable team creates their own, well optimized Linux distro for their devices. Gallery 3 decision is really interesting as they made it to work by using an old but fancy trick - the device first draws a line in a fast-reacting color (black or blue, idk) and then redraws it in selected color, as for Gallery 3 colors does affect the speed of drawing.
