Many children don't even care about their parents, but here the son introduces New dishes to his parents and take them out for wonderful dinners as well, and happily cooks and eat together. Please don't get me wrong. I like this family very much. I admire their frugality and their outdoorsy lifestyle. I love their dog. However, you haven't "learned a great deal about Korean culture." You have gotten a glimpse of rural farm life in Korea, where people don't clean their foods like we do in the West. You are witness to country people, however well intentioned to eating with their hands instead of on individual plates and platters with chopsticks, knives, skewers and forks, as most Koreans do. You are watching simple people who like to eat basic foods with the same ingredients, without much diversity. You are watching them grow what they eat which is wonderful, of course. But aside from a podunk kind of existence, this is NOT the the tiniest sum total of Korean culture. Not even close.
