They were not always as boxy as the xB but there were a lot of 'stylized' small hatches and wagons in the early 2000s. Your issues with the power locks and windows validate my decision to eschew both when I ordered my 2005 Vibe. ;-)
I love it and love mine! Glad you uploaded this, im always looking for solid XB content. I just got the front end of my Xb repainted and im excited to spend more time with it making it a nice clean simple build, i hope you keep yours for a long time and make more content with it! Im at 210xxx miles, going strong!
My cousin also bought new a flint mica colored tC. He had the supercharger installed after the engine was broken in. Still has it, although his needs changed and needed a larger vehicle, he still gets it out and has fun with it in nice weather. She burns a little oil nowadays but most of those 2.4s do. She's old, let her smoke and drink I say lol but it still runs great
Man, I sure can vouch for the interior durability of older Toyotas. My daily is a red 1990 Toyota SR5 pickup, 5-speed manual, 4WD, regular cab, short bed, 1KZ-TE turbodiesel. That makes it 35 years old this year, and with almost 500,000 original miles, the interior is still holding up great. I currently have seat covers on to protect the original fabric, but other than that, the rest is looking really good for half a million miles. That truck has been everywhere, all 50 states except Hawaii. It's seen mud, snow, sand, even rivers. I bought it about 10 years ago right before the Toyota boom.
While I may not personally be a fan of the xB, I really admire the passion that you have for the xB and all the care and dedication you’ve put into it!
One of my neighbors bought one from new. Drove for ages and it was passed onto a teenager and survived with some issues. Kid is in college and didn’t want that old thing left at home. It’s been slowly restored the past couple of years. New/ restored front and a re spray on hood and roof.
I had an 04 xB. I owned it for 9 years, put 100k miles on it, and it was SO GOOD. No, it wasn't fast, but it was good in city traffic. Dead-ass reliable, easy to work on for regular maintenance, roomy, wacky, and just the epitome of "cheap and cheerful" I would love to have another one.
I learned to drive stick on one of these! They're great fun. And yeah, the trunk thing breaks off on every single one of these. Sadly ours (my mom's, really) died maybe 10 years after we bought it. Nothing catastrophic, just lots of miles and mounting problems. Great car, though!
I knew nine years ago when I bought mine that they were going to be a classic some day. I can't imagine owning many other cars. It's the right combination of practical and fun.
The first gen bB / xB is genuinely one of my favorite cars ever made. Sadly they are not available in my market - Australia - and not eligible for import either. I've owned several Toyota Echos based on the same engine & platform, and they are absolutely brilliant. But the styling and practicality of the xB matched with that is just 100% perfection in my eyes. We did get the 2nd gen, but i'm not as interested in those. We also got the Nissan Cube and a few other similar models, but I would loved to have owned one of these.
Funny seeing you here!! I wish you wouldve kept your Xb! Youre channel is a big inspiration to making mine look nice! Thank you for all the videos youve made with yours, they will definetly come in handy when i do my mods!
I wish my life circumstances had permitted me to keep the first car I bought new. It was a similarly slow, practical car: The Suzuki Aerio SX. That interior is truly impressive for the age and mileage.
Unreal they are antiques lol. One of my friends got one around the same year and I remember it like it was yesterday. The inside led package was totally RAD
In Connecticut, any car that is 20 years old is eligible to get "classic car" license plates. So in CT you could rock classic plates now on this classic Scion.
These have grown on me over the years, some of the interior looks familiar, especially the air vents, central looking and window switches, there straight out of first gen Yaris, we have had our Yaris from new for nearly 25 years.
That Toyota 1NZ-FE engine that was used in a number of different Toyota and Scion cars over the course of 20 years has earned a reputation for easily lasting 400k+ miles with basic maintenance. Some well cared for examples have made it to 1 million miles. Aside from engine oil needing to be replaced every 5k miles you need to replace all the other fluids every 50k to 60k miles if you want to reach 400k+ miles. The other fluids are transmission, engine coolant, power steering and brake fluid.
My first car was a beat up one that my girlfriend had before I started dating, that little box was somehow still my favorite car. Something about how weird and odd it looked (plus lasted to around 300k) just made me fall in love with those cars. Hopefully, I can find another one just to work on and have fun with at the track tbh
Can you imagine if a facelift of the MR2 Spyder was sold as a Scion? I think it would've complemented the xB and the brand really well, and maybe gave more continuity to the FR-S.
We have an '08 XD, is the third car in the house and quite the beater.... we honestly think it will outlive our two newer cars 😂, every time I inspect the thing everything is OK, just gas and go LOL
Where did you get your xB painted? How much did it cost? I have a 2006 xB 5 speed, that I bought new, now with 93k miles. I shoulda' got the TRD supercharger. It was a factory option and it would have made the car a little faster and a lot more valuable in the present day. I think it was a $1500 option. Still love my xB, glad I got the 5 speed. Only the Nissan Versa is available with a manual trans and the Versa has been discontinued.
Ahhhh. No. Please define Classic car then. Because this may be close. But no cigar. That's like using the word legend in Rock n Roll. And I just don't think this is legendary. It may be fun. Cool. Odd. Humorous. But Classic is well- a very large word. Classic is a Saab 900. And I just don't think 990 times out of 1000, more than 10 person would take this over just about any Classic car. So if this is so far in the bottom of the list of Classics, it's another word. Just like the Hall of Fame, there are some that come close. This is like that for me. IMHO I would NEVER use this word for the Scion. VW bus sure. Volvo 240 sure. But this- not even close to that. In Japan maybe haha. I hate the Classics of the 1970s- anything big like a boat- Camaros, Chargers. So this is more my style. Heck maybe I'd even buy one. But Classic- that's a large word. You're a classic maybe. But out of your stable? Naaaa.... so many of your cars are, but not this one. Close but no cigar. Unless you're Japanese or live in Japan. I would drive this to the store- but never on a highway.
@ Honda Element. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I for instance despise anything from the 1970s. Chargers. Camaros. Despise those boats. In my eye the scion is not a good looking vehicle. Close but no cigar. Maybe modified versions though
I always admired the flexibility, simplicity, and spaciousness of the 1st gen bB, sad to see Toyota decided to axe their lineage. The only thing that closely resemble its concept in my opinion is the Honda Fit, and it also got axed by Honda 🥲
What do you think of the first gen Scion xB?

Great on gas mileage and room but dangerously slow
Original 2006 owner here 👋. (Bringing back the wave)
Bought a new '05 tC and I still have it 20 years later too. 84k miles and still mostly perfect. Never an issue with it, and I'll have it forever.
My cousin also bought new a flint mica colored tC. He had the supercharger installed after the engine was broken in. Still has it, although his needs changed and needed a larger vehicle, he still gets it out and has fun with it in nice weather. She burns a little oil nowadays but most of those 2.4s do. Ethan, My how things change. When Scion was around people worried that the MSRP was not negotiable. Now people worry about markups.
Make a deep clean collab video of this baby it deserves it

@HelloRoad I've seen some of yours too! Great work!!
@@MrBetonator I'm glad it's been a helpful resource. Good luck with your Box!

ayy where u been man❤
14:48 also don't drill two bolts into it either
Maaaaan I’d love one of those little econoboxes with a manual
Nice car brother, I have one also. My son is driving it now. We have 347,000 miles on ours.
Wow!!
I love my burnt penny release series
We have an '08 XD, is the third car in the house and quite the beater.... we honestly think it will outlive our two newer cars 😂, every time I inspect the thing everything is OK, just gas and go LOL
I think these fall under the "future classic" category.
Here, cars can retain collector status once at 25 years old.
what a beauty ❤❤❤
I love these, but my favorite square car is the Nissan Cube. Of course, I can't buy a cube because of that CVT.
I kinda want a toaster now 😔
