Really enjoyed video n music fond memories coatsgate cafe revolving wood door and bacon butty had many trips on the 74 dad was owner driver long distance in1973 I was up at Stirling on a caterpillar loading shovel digging out for the M9 when I came of hire I was told to drive the shovel back to co durham. So I had to go through airdrie lanark then down the 74 across the A69 to hexham then over to stanhope co durham it was a long trip at about 22 mph also the shovel was over the white line dodgy with wagons passing I was pleased a workmate was my escort
Also I had some fun on the A66 also around 73 74 we were tramping 3 caterpillar dumptrucks up to penrith the trucks were 12ft wide in heavy rain at Warcop one truck skidded nose dived in a ditch major panic army rescued us a tracked machine winched the truck back on the road which was at a stand still another day our low loader loaded with a CAT D8 on engine blew up and ended up at the main gate for Appleby grammar school we ended up having to get the dozer onto another trailer so there was mud oil sleepers school buses and a head master going ballistic good old days
Most nostalgic with great comments and music. In the Stainmore Cafe in the old days you always got two eggs with breakfast. Happy days and the A66 Scotch Corner to Penrith hasn't changed much over the tops in 60 years. Anyone remember when Bowes and Brough weren't by-passed ? Everything you said resonates with me. Thanks.
