Welcome to Dynamic Components - Part 5 - Skill Builder

- It's part 5 of our Dynamic Component series. In this video, we will build on the last few videos - so make sure you watch the rest of them first! We are going to jump right in and make a frame to show how you can control the size and material size. This may seem simple, but this is essential because we show you how different sub-components inside of a dynamic component interact with each other.

Dynamic Components, Part 4: • Welcome to Dynamic Com...
The logic throughout the creation process makes it incredibly easy to follow. The best series on Dynamic components ever.
I really appreciate your series on Dynamic Components, so very helpful. Working in the shop and having my computer accessible with plans already completed makes is simple, when speaking to clients, to make modifications to what "they" want and seeing it immediately. When they are happy, so am I.
Brilliant series. So useful, I've never fully understood dynamic components but they speed my workflow so much when designing kitchens. Definitely remaking my units using this video.
Thank you Aaron, for dismantling the dynamic components in such a dictative way.
Not just liked it, i'm loving it. After so many years i finally start to use my components as they are supposed to be used.
Thanks Aaron Up to the next video i'm really get the hang of it.
Yes sir, please keep it going. I agree that showing entry mistakes is helpful.
I am a cabinetmaker, it would be great if you could, in advance, fully model a base cabinet with 2 doors. 1 drawer, 1 interior shelf, and counter top. Then in detail, explain the hierarchy to coding that would drive sizing, and the best work flow to applying dynamic components
Id like to see this too.
this would be very helpful to me as well!
same here
Most of the cabinet can be designed with the info here. I did draw one, so far without drawers, but I'm trying hard. What I need at the moment is how to do the thickness of the board.
OMG!! I wanted to learn how to make dynamic components for years, but looked too complicated. Thank you so much! it's still kinda complicated, but at least I have the tools to try now. Great work!
Best tutorial on dynamic components, great work
Great series Aaron, simple but extremely informative.
This a great series, maybe you could show a beaded face frame as a dynamic component. Be interesting to see how you go about the 45degree of the beed on the corners . 🤔
This series is great for doing design of containers that carry a custom "branding" of many sizes in packaging components. Used to use similar abilities in SolidWorks to achieve but was unaware SketchUp had this type of flexibility.
This is a great presentation! I love the series and hope it grows into the scripting/Ruby subject :)
Thanks sir, so useful!!! Step by step !!! So easy for practice it
Great stuff Aaron. Very useful. I will try this out. It would be useful to include things like backing boards, mounts and glass... then, in a future lesson, tell us how to create a materials list for print-out. Love your work mate! Cheers... Chris Mathers. Lowood, Queensland. Australia
Great series Aaron. Maybe move toward showing how you could use these techniques for creating standard size windows/door which also open when clicked? Or even cabinetry with variable numbers of shelves.
Excellent work!
Another great video! Learning a lot!!! Please keep making them.
Glenn Shaffer Will do!
Really enjoying this series Aaron. I don`t have Sketchup Pro (Yet!) But I do use MS Visio a lot, and the shape sheet functions are very similar to this, if anything, Sketchup seems to be much easier to program.
Nice one Mate, keep em coming.
Keep on Keepin' on!
Great stuff. simples so far!
Thanks, great series. I learned a lot.
Thanks for the very well presented tutorial. Even the typos are useful as we are all going to make them and need to know how to recover.
Great series. Would love to see how DC functions - principally orientation/rotation - could set say the directions various child components faced. Think of a row of spotlights pointing at a stage or focus object. Looking forward to the next one so have subscribed :)
Just what I was looking for. can this be done the same way using a mitered frame? AND would also like to add a puzzle-shaped lap joint that won't change when the frame size changes. TIA
These videos are really good, keep it up!
AWESOME!!! Please add a center rail that is sizable in width and stays centered in the open space. Like 2” stiles, 2” top rail, 3” bottom rail, and 1” center rail.
Yes, please keep going!
Hi, can you make dynamic component drawer that slides in and out
Awesome series Aaron. I have the same question Lawrence C. has (45 frame joints) and would like to put a slight arch on the top or bottom frame member.
well presented!
So this has been a massive help in getting my skills up to help me draw up cabinets for work. only thing that i seem to run in to is when i save a item and then try to import it in to a new file it loses the component options when clicked on, which means i cant change size what i need
I am learning to build with dynamic components to add a door with applied moulding on the face. I will add this door to Mozaik cabinet software. Have you worked with Mozaik?
Aaron i want to know more about IFC.. Please do some videos on this topic also.
Could you do a frame with a variable "height" and with the pieces joining at 45 degree angles?
Lawrence Cuthbert Maybe that will be next week...
thank you, thank you, thank you!!!
Scale using scaletool?
Could you duplicate a part say the stiles. So if you modify 1 side the other one changes as well. So they behave like components.
Keep going. How about changing material colors?
Omar Calderon Check our part 3 (changing the color of Marc’s pants)
Yes, please now add the z dimension. Start from where you left off in episode 5 please. For episode 7, then, please introduce material choices. Thank you.
What about hiding the lines at the intersections (edges where they touch) of the frame pieces?
Tom Vallee Next week, perhaps?
I don’t know what I did wrong. My right piece is sticking out. I moved my axis (after some trial and error).
please keep going moreDC
YESS" NICE! :D
always upload ur lessons with lesson no 1 and so on so
Each part is in the Skill Builder Playlist and labeled Part 1, Part 2, etc... This one is Part 5 of a series that is not yet complete. Enjoy!
next step in sketchup carrier
not a good video if you're not familiar with shortcuts. Also, resetting axis on my system does not work in the same way as in the video.
or upload with part no 1.2.3.4.5.6.73889 etc
stop that series (not before part 99)
