Thanks so much for posting.. This made so much sense as to why my mesh was a mess. I feel confident I can do this with other projects now. Thanks again.
Now (4 yrs later) you can create the center line first then use Path> Offset to make the 2 sides (I tried it, it works). Then it's just a matter of adding points to make all three lines equal, then connect them with lines to make one mesh for the candy cane. But the concept is still the same. ;)
It.s a long way, I actually discovered that in a short way and I was crying because it was super easy but I was at work at that time and forgot to record that process and then I forgot those steps literally my head is spinning and feeling regret why I did not take screenshots at least it was the answer I was searching from last 4 years, although this was also my concept as I said earlier it is very looooong and precise work. anyway, good work keep it up you will get more subscribers. peace
at the end of this video I was really wowed by the perfect structure you created from a simple square! Really fantastic job Mark ! Thanks for uploading such an awesome tutorial! And also your voice sounds really nice and sincere, I enjoyed watching your video so much!
Here to learn how to make my portraits look even more real with mesh like I see others do in illustrator. Going over my head with shapes but I will get it
Thanks aa lot for video! I have a question - why i cant see gradient mesh on rectangle when i make unview. My rectangle same as on your video is in new layer, but cant see gradient mesh with black color
are you on pc or mac, because mac is command click, also what version are you working on, ive never had an issue with seeing outline mode on a layer :(
its not as easy as it looks but im sure Ai will one day beat this process, but i dont think that will be the case for a bit. The ability to have a workable vector is very important for professionals looking to print large format and other applications.
@@MarkDiMattei I mean you do things fast somehow, I couldn't follow. Maybe your tutorial is for those already intermediate or advanced I'm just beginning. Thanks anyway for sharing knowledge.
i feel knowledge running into my brain after watching this

Thank you SO much, I had no idea how to do this and it was essential for getting my graphic to look right. Hugely appreciated!

I think we can use reflect option in order to do last curve part. Thanks
I'm not sure what reflect would do but you do you!
By the way, I only remember the last step was "Expand Appearance" and bingo It was easy
Thanks aa lot for video! I have a question - why i cant see gradient mesh on rectangle when i make unview. My rectangle same as on your video is in new layer, but cant see gradient mesh with black color
You have to control click the eye ball of the layer your mesh is on, which will allow that layer to be viewed in outline mode
my CNTRL click for the bones isnt working any idea what it could be except illustrator not working?
are you on pc or mac, because mac is command click, also what version are you working on, ive never had an issue with seeing outline mode on a layer :(
@@MarkDiMattei i appreciate your reply eventually I figured it out illustrator has been acting up just turned off and on again and it worked.
T H A N K Y O U M A N. I T W A S R E A L L Y EXCITING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So exciting lol
I don't know why but this is so hard for me with difficult shapes. I wonder why they won't use AI for this
its not as easy as it looks but im sure Ai will one day beat this process, but i dont think that will be the case for a bit. The ability to have a workable vector is very important for professionals looking to print large format and other applications.
if you need any specific help let me know
@@MarkDiMattei thank you! I already learned about freeform gradient. It's much easier :)
haha yea no problem, I like that tool too for most things, just limiting compared to mesh but free form gradient makes life easy.
can you stop mving the mouse cursor while talking
lmao its a real problem i know, I also have a pacing problem so maybe my tendencies transfer to PC :)
@@MarkDiMattei great video but i needed your help and i could not focus your video. maybe its my problem
we both have issues
Dude you're so fast
in what way? so i know for my next videos, I've been afk from tutorials for a bit but i haven't forgotten about them at all! thanks for watching
@@MarkDiMattei I mean you do things fast somehow, I couldn't follow. Maybe your tutorial is for those already intermediate or advanced I'm just beginning. Thanks anyway for sharing knowledge.
Def intermediate because I don't go over every small thing I'm doing, other than the task at hand! Sorry :(
I took classes specifically for AI and they didn't teach me this. WTF!
follow me and we will succeed together!
