If there’s anything I learned is the more ‘random’, small chinese establishments with the laminated menus will be the most amazing, filling, and comforting takeaway you’ve ever had in your life. They stuff the containers full too, it’s always worth the money and honestly quality too
So true. There's a tiny Chinese takeaway cabin close to my local train station. Graffiti everywhere, no logo, cash only, no delivery, no English, no menu to take - trust it, and you'll end up with a meal you simply cannot complain about, and a family of 6 is fed for £20. The quality really can drop the more exclusive and expensive you go.

Well…. Maybe with £80 you can just learn how to cook a proper, delicious cookie through a cooking-course and still live your best life and even meet nice people there too. Or just fill your healthy grocery basket for some more nutrients just for the same price or just check yourself some pastry trends or invent one. Everybody is free in this life 😊
its not meant for normal people its meant for people where £30 is the equivalent of 12 pence to them. maybe less. at such a stage of wealth... you just go for whats best and money essentially isnt real. thats the target audience of this restaurant. and there are quite a few of those people about for them to target. the food is obviously better in the expensive restaurant when you take price completely out of it. but for any normal person anywhere near the average wealth/pay bracket.... youd obviously go to the cheaper one every time. its obviously the best choice for you. youd only go to the expensive one for a one off massive special event. however if you are of average wealth and treating yourself to a meal out for a massive special event and have 400-500 quid budget for it. not sure id go to this Chinese. there is better out there for that price range I have seen.

I used to eat at the first place when I went to college, you could order when you left the lesson and they would have it ready by the time you got there literally 10 minutes !
4:10 the chinese takeaway style beef, usually flank, is "velveted" in cornflour and bicarb to tenderize and remove any gamey flavour. To prep for dishes it is actually deep fried in a wok in SUPER hot oil, higher then a deep fat fryer goes. It is then stir fried into the sauce. The outer cornflour layer can become gooey and soft but helps sauce stick to it
I've lived in Devon for 33 years. I'm from Uxbridge. Nostalgia!! That take away unit was there when I was young. Between the ages of 11 and 16 get Chips there every Saturday (1985-1989). It caught me every time. I'd be walking to the bus station and pass here. I'd get chips rather than the bus then have to walk the 45 minute's home. Love your videos! Keep it up. Ty.
The problem with Chinese food is that there are so many regional cuisine, it is really hard to compare. The more expensive food is banquet stye, that is only really established in some regions, one of which is Cantonese cuisine. Different regions also have different emphasis and styles. For example, Teochew cuisine tends to emphasize the freshness and flavour of the ingredients, so the food might appear "less complex" on the surface.
When i was in Nanjing, China. I had Beijing duck, exactly like that. Whole Duck, all the trimmings (plus the head, lol) presented with the sugar, fresh pancakes, etc etc. and it was heavenly, best meal ive ever had. A fraction of the price though. Roughly £10.

I’m so blessed to be able to travel to mainland china, get a whole peking duck set for £20 (that feeds 4) 🤟🏼 in hong kong it’s slightly more expensive but sooo delicious. The pancakes are usually thin, slightly see through with no charring at all so it was cool to see that restaurant do their version

MiMi restaurant is literally a place where the guest dont care about the price...its about the fact , that they can eat "street food" in a 5star restaurant. Plus food legitimately made with high quality ingredients and is tasty. as a person, who was part of London`s Hospitality world for quite some time, I`m happy that you can get best of both worlds. ... ... Btw, for a good egg fried rice, traditionally, each grain of rice has to be covered in a fine layer of egg mix but each grain should still be dry and doesn’t stick together. Also it can’t be too oily. It takes exceptional skill to be able to do that. So for a really good egg fried rice, £17 seems fair. Very expensive if you’re looking for some carbs to fill your stomach. Can’t see your dish properly though. Anyway, great video!

My family used to run a Chinese/Taiwanese restaurant back in Taiwan, I'd say the expensive one is definitely a rip-off. Apart from most of the food aren't even authentic Chinese food (which is common here in the UK so I'm not gonna judge), the dishes and portion they served are just disappointing. With that price, I'd expect to see some lobster, scallop or abalone dishes to be served in a delicate way, with 2 times of the portion they served. I'd say judging by the location and number of staff they hired, £300 is probably reasonable. Anything higher than that is just rip-off.
the cheap place - it is just takeout. You are supposed to take it home to eat it - nothing wrong with that. Delicious food that you eat at home. I wish I lived in London!
Some of the expensive Chinese food was more Japanese than Chinese. We go to a Chinese restaurant that serves their duck dinner with pancakes and then makes either fried rice or soup from the carcass and serves that to you. They also have amazing other food, if you have room. If you come to Chicago, you should go there - it’s called Sun Wah. It’s not super cheap but it’s not crazy expensive either.

I don’t think it’s poached in water, that’s not the normal way of doing it at least. It’s just thin slices of beef stir fried in a wok pummeled by a roaring fire. And it cooks fast. It’s also tender because it’s probably been tenderized in cornstarch (standard Chinese stir fry cooking method).

I'd say judging by the location and number of staff they hired, £300 is probably reasonable. Anything higher than that is just rip-off.

the cheap place - it is just takeout. You are supposed to take it home to eat it - nothing wrong with that. Delicious food that you eat at home. I wish I lived in London!

Some of the expensive Chinese food was more Japanese than Chinese. We go to a Chinese restaurant that serves their duck dinner with pancakes and then makes either fried rice or soup from the carcass and serves that to you. They also have amazing other food, if you have room. If you come to Chicago, you should go there - it’s called Sun Wah. It’s not super cheap but it’s not crazy expensive either.
I hope you have the same influence as Keith Lee and get some customers to that first restaurant, especially because it's so hidden away.
They velvet the beef so it becomes tender. The usual traditional chinese restos here in Asia have very bright lighting.

If the beef has been marinated in rice wine vinegar, then rinsed before stir frying, it gets a really silky soft texture.

I don’t think it’s poached in water, that’s not the normal way of doing it at least. It’s just thin slices of beef stir fried in a wok pummeled by a roaring fire. And it cooks fast. It’s also tender because it’s probably been tenderized in cornstarch (standard Chinese stir fry cooking method).
