Noctilucent Clouds (2019-06-21)

[de] Am 21.06.2019 gab es über weiten Teilen Deutschlands nachtleuchtende Wolken mit einer außergewöhnlichen Helligkeit zu sehen. Sie entstehen durch Eiskristalle in der Mesosphäre (81-85km Höhe) und leuchten in den Sommermonaten Juni und Juli nach Sonnenuntergang am Himmel. Für den Betrachter ist die Sonne lange untergegangen, aufgrund der großen Höhe reflektieren die Eiskristalle aber noch das Licht der Sonne.
[en] On 21.06.2019 there were noctilucent clouds with an extraordinary brightness to see over large parts of Germany. They are formed by ice crystals in the mesosphere (81-85km altitude) and glow in the sky in the summer months of June and July after sunset. For the observer the sun has set for a long time, but due to the high altitude the ice crystals still reflect the light of the sun.
