After your video i took my Praktica LTL 3 and a MTL 3 out of the cupboard. When i gave batteries in it, both light meters worked suddenly. Shutters are working too on all speeds. Great cameras, reliable, sturdy, excellent CZJ or Meyer-Optik or Pentacon or Helios or Takumar lenses still available. I will fill the LTL3 or the MTL3 with one of the next rolls, actually i use Kentmere 100 very often.
That's awesome, yeah I love mine I have the LTL and the MTL5. While, at least for me, I get better results with my Canon 650, I prefer shooting the MTL5. It just feels so solid and robust. I think they would survive just about anything 😀 Thank you so much for watching.
Really great story about your dad. Such a heart felt nice memory, and is so awesome you were able to gift him the D50 something he treasured and loved.
Hi Geoffrey, thanks, I was very lucky as he was an awesome dad. It was nice to be able to give something back, and I was just as lucky that my partner is understanding, and I was able to move back home with my folks when he needed more help and care towards the end. Thank you so much for watching.
I really wished he have lived a bit longer to see some of the kit I have now, he would have been amazed, when he was in his hay day with photography Super 8 was the bees knees. Now it's possible to produce a high definition, professional looking video on your home computer. It would have blown his mind 😀 Thank you so much for watching, and for commenting. We are privileged to have such great memories, and have both chosen to carry on the legacy in their footsteps.
Interesting video, you must cherish those cameras and they'll bring back happy memories of your father. I just picked up a Praktica LTL a similar story but not my father, an elderly chap whose family found suitcases of his old camera gear while sorting through his bungalow, I gather the chap has dementia, can't remember having these cameras or how to use them. They wanted them to go to a good home and be appreciated. So I now own this Praktica with a lovely Carl Zeiss Jena DDR Tessar 2,8 50mm lens and a Chinon CX with an Auto Chinon 28mm f/2.8 lens. Looking forward to using them both. I've added your channel, my channel is mostly about flying drones but I also have a keen interest in aerial photography/ videography and vintage tech such as old cameras 📷
Hi, firstly thanks for watching. They are amazing cameras. My father also had an MTL5 and a Yashica Mat 124g which he must have sold. So I recently bought an MTL50 and one day I will track down the Yashica! The Carl Zeiss Jena's are brilliant lenses, I have one here too, same as you the 2,8 50mm. I found I had great results from the MTL50 with Ilford black and white. I also use Harmon labs, who have done a bang up job of processing and printing for me. Are you in the UK? If you are do you fancy having a colab on something sometime?
@@JustRupes Yes I'm in the UK, East mids based, what kind of collab are you thinking? I've done collabs with other youtubers gone flying my drone with them etc 👍
@@JustRupes If you ever want to meet up and fly Bennerley viaduct, that's one of my local flying spots it's just off j26 M1 heading towards Ilkestone. Also busy through August, I'm.sure we can figure something out. 👍
Great story. My spin is I have an LTL with same lens which my dad bought me for when I went to Bournville School of Art & Design in 1975. I haven't used it for a long time, especially after converting to digital years ago, but I will always keep it safe.
Hi Gareth, sorry it has taken me such a long time to reply. Yes man, keep it safe. I bought some film (Ilford HP4) just a test, along with a new battery, which amazingly enough are still available on amazon. I was not expecting much but after getting the film developed after a day out over at a local wildlife park / forest, I have 36 prints which are all pretty much great. Some did not come out so well as I convinced myself the meter could not be accurate so took a few shots two stops under, at the meter level and two stops over. Meter was spot on perfect. I am planning on doing an update video with it soon where I go out and do a shoot back to back with the new Fuji X-T3 (could not quite afford the X-T4!
Interesting story. I bought a Praktica LTL with a working mirror in good condition and fell in love with it's ergonomics. The viewfinder ain't too bright but every other feature of it is satisfying as hell. Only thing was that there was a shutter rewinding issue where the shutter triggers when I wind the camera. If there were a fix online id use the camera as my main 🤍🤍:'(
Hi Ian, that’s awesome, gosh so I guess you have to rewind the film in the dark! I’ll keep an eye out as I go through the forums and if I see any fixes I’ll update you, thanks for watching :-)
They are awesome cameras, I was surprised the battery for the light meter (button cell in the bottom) was still available from amazon. When I took the battery out I looked at the shape of it and thought no way am I going to get one of those, but heck, there they were on amazon for hardly any money!
I picked up one of these cameras (as well as an OM-10 and a ton lenses) at a local auction yesterday. Great video, you've earned yourself another subscriber! I'm a film & television student so I plan on uploading some more productions onto my channel, it would be cool if you could check out a few that are already uploaded. Anyways, great video and have a nice day.

Well done mate. My father inspired my love of cameras too. Good video, sometimes the story is more impotant than the gear

What a sweet story 👍
I have the same camera! Got it at a flea market in Ukraine. It's my first film camera and I love it :)

Heck yeah, I'll go check it out now. I may also be asking for some tips as I am self taught pretty much :-)
You said nothing about the camera.
