I have personally seen this guy in Lahore TWICE. In my entire life living in the States with Indian Punjabis and listening to professional dhol players over here...I have NEVER heard anything like this. The beats are simply out of this world. The combination of the three dhol players playing in unision, communicating with one another through the 'feel' of the beat is outstanding.
Reminds me of the old days in Lahore when we used to go Shah Jamal every Thursday night to listen to Papu sain live for hours Your soul just sinks in the beat of dhol and everything else becomes irrelevant. Enjoy !!
jus come back from lahore ... went baba shah jamal on every thursday night .. pappu's dhol is the best .. also was present on the baba shah jamals mela where pappu plays the dhol to the best of hes ability !! ya alii haiderr
After listening to this again....All i can say is holy crap!!!!! Ive heard hundreds of world class Dholis in my time....and by far I was in awe of Pappu Sain Ji....I cant wait to go see him in person...Wah Wah...
Remember in four lions when they're shaking their heads to avoid being seen on surveilance camera. The guy says all that will happen is that they'll get confused for sufis on speed. Just like these guys!
He is a player of its own kind . He got plenty of rhythms in playing this The important thing is that he can play like this for hours . Place :Shah Jamal (Lahore) Jhoole Lal ..........
Dhol players like Baba Lal Malik Pur Charay Walay, Ustad Allah Ditta, Ustad Baoo of Lahore were famous in their times for playing the solo dhol. It is said that Baba Noor Ilahi and Baba Karam Ilahi started playing dhol as a jori (a pair). They also started playing classical taals on the dhol. They use to play teen tala, ek tala, rupak, panj tala ki sawari and mughlaye in vilambat lai on dhol. One of them played the tala or naghma and the other improvised. They also switched the bar and Naghma. After that, the idea of jori started gaining acceptance and some famous joris came together. These included Baba Khadim with Baba Ali Bakhsh; Baba Jamal with Baba Mundh; Baba Luddan Sain with Baba Gami Sain; and Muhammad Shafi with Muhammad Ismaeel.Naghma Song Melody Expression Via Music,..😇🥰😍🤩😘,...Ex NCA Student,From Chitral...
You aren't really talking about 'some' muslims here! These guys are the torchbearers of their religion playing at Baba Shah Jamal's shrine. They do command some respect. I am a Hindu from India but still hold enough tolerance and respect for Islam. I fail to understand why is it so difficult not to comment on someone religious sentiments and beliefs.
@junaidjaatt.i secoond your comment. This just has reminded me when i was young and lived in lahore, every thursday at shaarbaad maaley they use to play dhol.
insane sound how do they get so much expression with the sliding bass sound on a DHOL on a tabla or dholki it's easy - but on a dhol ? insane . amazing anyone know ?
Seems this video is too hardcore for some people viewing, and understandably so, this is the most dhol skill you can find on youtube (Pappu sain is the best player alive) Don't let the bad sound capture fool you.
Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'un (Arabic: إِنَّا لِلَّٰهِ وَإِنَّا إِلَيْهِ رَاجِعُونَ , ʾinnā li-llāhi wa-ʾinna ʾilayhi rājiʿūn a), also known as Istirja (Arabic: ٱسْتِرْجَاع , ʾIstirjāʿ), is a Quranic command for Muslims, REST IN PEACE Late Papoo sain ,,,Whose life was named as drum, their funeral was also raised on the beat of drum The drum of Papusain at Shah Jamal Mazar in Achhra in Lahore has gone silent with his death. How the students said goodbye to him on his last journey,
i wasnt given you a list of saints i was saying the ones that were intoxicated in a way that was awkward to the outside world and dhols just has no mention in them
this is noooothing fellas... this shrine is in my city, like the tenet of sufism that knowledge can only be "known" by experience, going there is where u "know" notice everyone sitting around the courtyard and also deeper inside the tomb... everyone is high on hash, and we smoking so much of this potent shit that theres a cloud that forms so even if u don't smoke ur still gonna get high... lovely isn't it? oh and its bloody loud!!! and crazy shit starts happening!!! words don't work
@AhmedM85 what's the point you're trying to make. There is time for prayer, time to work and time to relax and have enjoyment. I have masters, degree in Arts, 2 diplomas, well versed in humanaties, religion including philosophy, I've been junior UK table tennis champion, I also had my own music band and played the dholky on stage. There is no progress if this is all you do or just pray and nothing else, but as a hobby it good stuff. I work , have my faith and yes play the dholky...and I'm good.
@mostpowerful "Actions are (judged) by motives (niyyah), so each man will have what he intended. ive got a couple of videos up actually but there just of me messin bout, search gagan singh playin dhol. ive got sum more videos on the way of me playin properly.
@mostpowerful mate prophet mohammad [saw] also said that to judge 1's actions only based on wat u can see is wrong b/c neeyat is more important & only Allah is can judge 1's intention. u feel this form of Dikhir is wrong no problem. It's between them & Allah now. plus for all v knw these guys might be only 'acting' too
and for some reason you think dancing with a dhol is one exceptional level of doing that as oppose to say zikr or nafl or deep prayer indoors on your own, yes ? And No im not a wahabi nor shia !
@AhmedM85 .you talk general and you're writing is not cited. Its you who resorts to groundless insults by saying I'm not educated. How the hell can you say that. talk on the topic or issue and stick to that. Now what is it you want to discuss. I admire your resilience.
@younib100 where did the Prophet SAW say "to judge 1's actions only based on wat u can see is wrong", show me the hadith please. I can tell u an authentic hadith which the Prophet SAW said "If you see a wrong being committed then stop it with your hands if you have the power. If not then stop it with your tongue, and if you cant even do that then think of that action as bad in your heart, but that is the weakest form of Iman."
exactly. i said if u have problem wid this form of dikhir then no problem. i never said wat u typed was wrong. u have ur understanding which makes u feel they r wrong. good u've followed dat hadith i m pretty sure u dont knw everything in Islam. it is a authentic hadith mate. mate Islam is a religion based on 'internal belief' On the mouth I can say the kalma a 100 times which to u might seem good but u cant knw my intentions inside. I dont support this stuff but I dont judge either
i know swearing is forbidden, and im so sorry for using such words, may allah forgive me. what really gets me, is when these backwards people make haram stuff halal, and its all good.
Bruv i have sufi love in me and there are no deeper levels of intoxication (after the Prophets and Sahaba) then of saints like Masur-Al-Hajjaj RA Qutbuddin Ajmer RA Juniad Baghdadi RA etc but this dhol business is the first i heard of intoxication brother !
ok. i apalogize for my rude comments. it is true that this guy is a sufi style player but i personally believe that sufi style is not the true style of dhol playin. he may be able 2 play for 5 hours ours but that does not mean he is a brilliant dhol player.
@AhmedM85 . I've just read your other reply regarding science. My highest qualification is in science. I've studied metaphysics, the theories of Kand, Hawkins, Darwin, Einstein, Bertrand Russel, and many more, and of course all the eastern masters like Iqbal, Zauk, faiz Ahmed Faiz, Rabindranath Tagore, ghalib. I'm well versed in all major religions and philosophies. I'm not camparing masters to common folk, few thick mulims are against Sufis and thought you'r too.

That double bass building up around the 1:00 mark and reaching a crescendo around 1:41 is simply mind-blowing!
Legend #PapuSaeen ❤ RIP
Incredible how he maintains the rhythm non-stop. It puts you in a trance. He'd make a lot of money here in the UK at wedding parties.
After listening to this again....All i can say is holy crap!!!!! Ive heard hundreds of world class Dholis in my time....and by far I was in awe of Pappu Sain Ji....I cant wait to go see him in person...Wah Wah...
