Did a lot of them. Hopefully ill get to do some more of them.
Thanks for the info time to go shopping brother can't wait for the finish product be safe and keep on welding
I love the fact that this is a 2nd gen too. Not everyone needs to run a 100k Platinum F350 in order to make money. I worked a job last year with a guy still rocking an 80's squarebody Chevy. AWESOME!!!
Looking good!
Nice. About 30 yrs ago I helped my late father build his last welding bed on his 89 C30. He always bought second hand trucks and couldnt find a cab and chassis, so he bought a dually. The two prior trucks were cab and chassis. He never did like the dually. He made the bed the same width as he would have if it was a can and chassis and split trailer fenders to cover the tires. I recommend finding a cab and chassis with the narrower rear axle if possible. I believe most of them also have flatter frames, making it easier as well.
Just getting into welding, seen this video and man its a big help, your prep work is meticulous, keep up the good work man
Looking good, I appreciate the video
Jake, love the build, hard to beat the slugger chop saw, those are top notch! Love the attention to detail, being a teacher it is so hard to get students to slow down and pay attention. Nice work!
Nolan for sure good saw for sure. And worth every penny when it comes to building these beds. At least you do t give up on em! Thanks for what you do.
Hi Jake, really enjoyed watching the video, looking forward to seeing the rest of this build.
Looks like you got a hell of a helper there sir. I like how your family is all in, keep the videos coming
Jake,
Don't know if you remember me or not but you took the time out of your busy schedule to call me when I was testing out for branch tee and 6G open root for a pipeline company job. Just to let you know I passed test, then a few months later got laid off because they decided to hire out and use outside rig guys instead of using the "company guy". It is all good because I ended up going back to the company that I work for before building steam turbines for the US Navy. They gave me all my time back(15 years)! I have still continued on with my quest of opening up my own shop which has been 2 years in the making. Things are going slow and steady pretty much the way that I planned it (being I'm working a regular job) I've now contracted on will a place called Churchville Fire Equipment. They have taken me on as a subcontractor. What I'm specializing in at in my business is aluminum(but can weld anything). I just produced and passed my first welding procedure for my shop by doing a 6G pipe test aluminum TIG which qualifies me to do pretty much anything in the way of aluminum welding. I told you all that to tell you this.
If you get knocked down stand back up and press forward. By watching you and your videos, It helps me to keep striving towards my dream of following in my grandfather's footsteps! My plan is to take this opportunity working with Churchville Fire Equipment to come up with better ways to enrich the Fire Equipment world. I'm not just a journeyman welder I'm also a 20-year veteran volunteer fire service, just finishing up serving is a volunteer fire chief and continuing as volunteer fire investigator for my local County. So taking on this endeavor with churchville is within my wheelhouse to say the least. But I'm not just going to stop at building fire equipment. My eyes are wide open to any opportunities that may come along. My ultimate goal is to build a company and quit my company job and have something my grandchildren can take over and not have to worry about finding work!
Again, Thanks for the time to actually call and talk with me when I needed some advice and continuing on with what you do for the welding community.
Owner of P-Mac Welding Services- Chris Plummer
That's awesome Chris! Keep moving forward and before you know it you'll be sitting back and smiling while your grandchildren are enjoying what you built 👍. Also, from one veteran to another, thanks for your service 🇺🇸.
Man congrats brother. I do remember talking to you and it sounds like you took that conversation and ran with it. Congrats brother freaking proud of you.
Looking forward to the next one, been practicing, ready to head east from WA state for a test when the time comes!
Weld it brother get it done !!
Great to see you with your father and brother-in-laws😀. Also, ol' Pete's hat brings back great memories of my Dad 😁. Thanks for sharing buddy 👍.
Man ole Pete. That ole boy has seen some miles welding for sure. Thanks for sticking with us wade
@@JacobSchofield should do an interview with Pete. Ask him all sorts of welding questions. Get his perspective on things and maybe some advice. See you on the next one buddy 👍
That cool tat you bro in law in involved love that little dude
Thanks Sergio! The sleeves not done yet then after Eliza is ready she’s starting both of hers. How’s everything with you been?
Awesome video Jake!! I love watching these bed builds. I wish I was close by you I would have you build me a custom bed for my lawn mowing truck with weed eater racks, blower rack and tool box.
Man Todd would love to build you a custom bed for your business. Maybe we will convince somebody they need one and we can do a video on it so you can build it.
@@JacobSchofield that would be awesome if you could do that. I have some pretty good ideas on how I would want it and it would be very functional. Plus I'm sure you would have some very good ideas too with it. The bed would be money for sure for lawn guys and landscapers. Having a bed built by you would be completely awesome in my book.
Buddy. You need to grow a killer mullet. Must do A+
Hey Jake great build ! Got my outlaw pancake and the true arc hd lense about to order some up in smoke gear soon. Also got my 6g test cert now going to start saving up for my truck and start getting a rig setup.
That lense is flipping amazing ain’t it?? Congrats on getting through that test. That’s awesome
@@JacobSchofield Thanks and that lens is awesome!!! Not sure if I would have passed with out your videos lol but got her done!!
Hi Ashley if you have any questions on the Up In Smoke gear shoot me a email mac@upinsmokewelding.ca
You ever release the plans??
Great videos. Thanks for sharing. I noticed that you have some kind of glare shield on top of your mask. Were'd you get that and does it work well? Thanks.
I enjoy watching your videos and this build keep up the good work! What knife are you carrying?
You know my boy is a true pipeliner when. He welds downhill no matter what lol jk...Great video Schofield Group!!!
@@JacobSchofield hahaha. Can't wait for part 2 brother. Keep it up, hope to see ya out there. Moving to Colorado in September!!!
Are you using gas on the mig welding or gas less wire ?
По поводу одежды могу тебе посоветовать использовать танковые арамидные комбенизоны армии США - хорошая вещь и не горит! (жаль что дорогая вещь)
Awesum I want to change my bed as well. I have a 1998 2nd Gen Dodge but it's not extended cab. The guy I bought the truck from had the bed already on there but I don't like some things about it.
Man these prints and drawing will fit your bed exactly. As long as it’s a long bed dually.
So question for ya . I have the chance to get a old SAM 400 in your opinion is it better for wire feed with a ln 25 than the sa 200s and 250s
what kinda boots yall wearing in this? thanks
The music around the 8 minute mark reminds me entirely too much of Vanessa Carltons "1000 miles"
Love the build so far! also that hoodie is bad ass! where can I get one?
Great video. Love all the explanation and small details. Keep em comin! What is the song playing at 9:50, Guitar riff?
I wish I paid more attention to the songs but I’m not sure. I get them off of epidemic sound.
Here in Illinois the gas companies have started to mandate us standing our bottles up in the back of the trucks. I’m not a fan as I still have a regular box on my truck. It has forced me to run as much smaller and shorter oxygen bottle. Have you been seeing that out west? I’m guessing not as this bed is built with your tanks laying down.
Man Ben to be honost I have never worked anywhere except the mines that require them be stood up. MSHA makes you stand them up.
I’ve been thinking about buying one of those evolution saws. How do the blades stand up to cutting 1/8-1/4 material? I love my portable bandsaw but it’s not always making square cuts.
Man I highly recommend them!! I have two of them and they are top notch I love mine
Jacob Schofield thanks for the input brother. You keep doin the good work.
It says sold out on blue prints? On the website
How to you like the outlaw leather top Bib only hood?
Best hood around it’s not near as heavy as the full leather all though I do like that hood as well. But I love the rag top!
What is that knife you carry on your belt?
About how much money is spent on material??
Where did you get the vigilantes hoodie please I been looking for it and can’t find it !?
It was from my wife’s uncle’s funeral. He died fighting fires in Australia in a c130 he was stationed in great falls Montana. They gave them to all of us.
How long does the metal chop saw blades last , my boss buys the stone ones and they last quite a bit but all the dust that it makes , i wear a respirator just to use it .
That one has built 2 full beds. I have an evolution and that thing has made 100s of cuts and is still good
Don’t put a metal toothed saw blade on a abrasive chop saw the rpm’s are too fast and risk teeth flying off.
BIG PETE! Where did you guys build the bed at Jake?
Love the videos. You guys are doing nice work. But $140 for a welding shirt?? I just can’t see it. Are they THAT good?
Man I love em. I get where your coming from though there not cheap but good gear never is.
thank you for this! also where did you get that vigilantes sweatshirt lol
@@JacobSchofield no just thought it was a cool shirt and i wanted to buy one
First 😁😁
Dude Klay I’m not going to lie brother so jealous of that new truck it looks so good.
Did you directly tap holes in the 3/16" tubing? Doesn't seem like there'd be enough material to hold the kind of loads it'll have to withstand. If it was me, I'd find a way to have a nut.
Ok dumb question but do you weld those tubes to frame? Or how does it work? I'm only 15 and I go to welding school in a few weeks.
Nice work. Am a stick welder in Africa Cameroon. You guys want to hire me? Am ready to relocate and i can work with you whatever whenever and wherever
Hey man need to hit me up and let me show you my bed on my 2nd gen, my truck is red and though it is going to be different in ways than what you are doing it is a one off bed unlike any other may have give you some cool ideas that you can incorporate into yours
@10:37 rip my ears
Where are the prints?
Pipe welders trying to be iron workers, realizing it’s harder than it looks. 😂😂😂
Where are the drawings you keep talking about?
being a pain!! lol im waiting on final drafts i got to make sure they are perfect because it is close to 3000 + dollars worth of material and I dont want anyone ruining that much material.
The man with Down syndrome helping as much as he could made my heart melt. Really loving the videos, sub from me!
