Kevin's bag of tricks like playing the A to D or from C to Em is so simple, but magical. It eliminates unnecessary movement making the strokes economical... thank you...!!!
Hi Kevin, I’m enjoying so much this series I’ve just discovered, It helps me get unstuck and have solid foundations. Pro tip to switch from A to G : we can slide the Index finger from fret 1 to fret 2 and just place the middle and the ring finger at the right place. (My guitar teacher had taught me that to switch easier from A to Em, and the sliding move can be useful with the Ukulele too !) Thanks for this wonderful series 🙏
For everyone else looking to practice the play-along portions: 2:46 once per 4 count, A - D chords 4:35 2x each D-DU-UDU, A - D chords 7:16 once per 4 count, G - A - D - A chords 9:52 2x each D-DU-UDU, G - A - D - A chords
Your pace and teaching style are excellent. I’ve learned so much from you. Love the emphasis on chord progressions and tricks on moving easily from one to the next. Not only have I learned new chords but I’m also integrating strumming patterns at a pace I can keep up with. Thanks for that. You have a wonderful, relaxed teaching style that, in my brief experience with UA-cam ukulele tutorials, is unmatched. Please keep it up. Thank you.
Thanks Janice - to compliment this series check out my Strumming and fingerpicking series’ when you have a chance. I think they’re going to take you to the next level 🤙
Thanks Kevin really enjoying learning the uke with you. Feel like I'm improving each day. Joined a jam class and although I'm not quick enough to change chords, I managed to keep the strumming pattern going. Having great fun with your help.
Hey Kevin! Thanks so much for making these videos for us to jam with you! My uke playing has improved so much I'm really grateful. Thank you so much for these videos
So here I am, after a week of ukelele practice, with sore finger tips, about to cry during that last stretch, but feeling happy because I've come this far! Thanks again for the lessons :D
So glad I found your channel Kevin. The lessons and pacing have been great! Day 6 & 7 are definitely challenging me. Thanks for giving us the alternate fingering for D cuz my middle pinky joint tends to lock up and I thought I was cheating using the index, middle and ring to get to D. Totally diggin' this!
Thank you Kevin! Just picked up Uke and I'm loving it..its prob been a week since I've started watching your videos and in my head I think I'm already a musician:) I love the pace.
Hey Jamie - I've always wanted to try a Banjo ukulele! Maybe we could collaborate at some point? Email me through www.allforuke.com if you're interested. Really appreciate you supporting my channel :) ~Kevin
I'm slowly getting through these lessons. They are VERY helpful. I have 3 ukes and I'm learning quickly that the concert size is much more intuitive for moving between chords. It must fit my hands better so something!
Hey Eddie -- I bet the fret spacing of your concert ukulele is a little wider than your soprano which will make it easier to fret the chords. Thanks for checking in and hope you're well ~Kevin
Hi Kevin. You're too funny. So humble. What rhymes with Day Seven? How about Strumin in Heaven with Kevin. lol. Lovin all things uke in Toronto, Canada 🇨🇦
Feel bad asking for a little more because you are giving so much already, but what would be really helpful is for a 1 2 3 or 4 underneath the chord as to finger placement. This would be perfection. Thanks Kevin you are doing a great job.
My trick for A to D: I play the D chord with the index between the middle and the ringfinger. I just have to slide the index to the 2nd fret, then adding the ring finger That seems easier to me and instinctive.
Thank you for being an awesome teacher ! I really enjoy the way you go step by step but also don't make it boring. I purchased an inexpensive uke on Amazon, and it definitely doesn't resonate like yours even when the strings are ringing, not dead. I've given myself the goal of purchasing an upgrade if I keep up my practice with all of your classes. May I ask which brand of uke you're using?
I'm trying to learn its not going so good. But I think it would really help is when your showing strumming pattern that each strum lights up as you go through the strum
Loving your lessons Kevin. Wow! Wonder where this photo came from. Very old as I'm an old broad now. Anyway just enjoying your classes and I would like to email with you about possible lessons. I can't find an email for you. Even my monthly emails about my subscription doesn't allow me to email you back. Any suggestions? Thanks, Trisha
I'm having a hard time with my strumming. I was thinking of getting those silicone finger covers, do you think that would help.? I tend to naturally not be very gentle so my strumming is very hard or too fast. I wish I watched your videos first but I didnt and I'm not being able to slow down the rhythm with the down down up up down up strumming pattern. Please any advice would be greatly appreciated. Also was wondering if you knew the song empty by leilani wolfgramm and what is the strumming patter. For that song. I would love to learn it. Thank you for all your help and support and allowing me to be a part of the Duke family.
Day 7 !! yeh...one thing i noticed is that when i play changing the chords the left hand thumb always moves from the grip...but yours don't😊 thanks again for these lessons
Hi Kevin, I"m really enjoing the wau you teach. After watching several instructors the way you create the relaxed mood is great. one question to this lesson/ some instructors show the ring figner instead of the pinky on the D chord , does it matter?
I admittedly have small hands for a guy and for the life of me can't understand how people with bigger hands can use 3 fingers to play the d chord. I meam I can cram them in there and do it but it takes some real wiggling around lol barring them with my index finger just feels more natural and is way easier. I know you said to tilt your hand to make more room but I try and they just barely fit. I'll keep practicing but I think barring is going to be the way for me
M C - barring is totally acceptable and I do it myself depending on the chord progression. Everyone is a little different and making adjustments is okay as long as you are creating any pain in your wrist or taking yourself out of good playin position. Thanks for the feedback! ~Kevin
Ver' late to the game, but my index finger stays on the C string through this whole progression which makes it really easy. When I have to do three adjacent strings, like A on a guitar, I always find it easiest to have my index in the middle. Things fit better that way.
hi, I can't access the worksheet linked from the Kickstart series anymore. I've tried several ways to get it from your website. Is it no longer available for non-memberships? What am I doing wrong? thanks!!
Hi - is you go to www.allforuke.com/allforuke-ogs you can sign in with your original subscriber email to access the PDFs for this series. You are so easy going and PATIENT. This is why I watch you out of ALL the other uke teachers on You Tube. Thanks so much. You are an awesome teacher!!

Kevin you have been a great teacher for me! I am slowly moving forward- kinda at a snails pace but getting there- and it's fun!
Thanks Kevin really enjoying learning the uke with you. Feel like I'm improving each day. Joined a jam class and although I'm not quick enough to change chords, I managed to keep the strumming pattern going. Having great fun with your help.
Loving your teaching style only on day 7 after 4 weeks but playing uke daily and trying to nail the transitions.
That’s the right approach - keep at it!

seven rhymes with Kevin, Kevin!
Please tell me there are millions of songs that never use the d chord.. Thanks for your encouragement. Loving your course.

Nice one. Great teaching style and paced well for beginners. Keep up the great work. Jamie, owner of DUKE Banjo Ukuleles

This so relaxing
D - barre 2 & 3 with Pointer Finger and 1 with 3rd finger. Slides nicely from A Chord :-)

Great lesson! Loving Ukelele! Thanks so much!
It's the best isn't it?
Almost heaven (West Virginia 😊)

I'm trying to learn its not going so good. But I think it would really help is when your showing strumming pattern that each strum lights up as you go through the strum
I know that sometimes during a lesson it will do it like that but it doesn't do it when were going through the strumming pattern together with you.

So far most difficult chords for me are D and E7
Hi Kevin, I"m really enjoing the wau you teach. After watching several instructors the way you create the relaxed mood is great. one question to this lesson/ some instructors show the ring figner instead of the pinky on the D chord , does it matter?
Hi Moshe - I would say it’s situational. I always base it on which chord is directly after the D chord. Thanks for tuning in! - Kevin

My fingers seem too big to get all three on the second fret for the D chord!
Im barring all 3 with middle
