    My favorite way to dress up the glass items from Dollar Tree is to paint them with a mixture of equal parts craft paint and baking soda. You end up with an item that looks like high-end stoneware.

      joannesminis I think you’re thinking of soda water. Not baking soda. Soda water leaves bubbles in your paint. 😁

    • @joannesminis
      @joannesminis 3 роки тому +22

      @@flxmkr No it works I have been using baking soda ( the powder stuff in the yellow box) in liquid acyrlic paint for many years. It does not leave bubbles, that would require an acidic componet to form bubbles. It creates a thick paint that looks like raw stone. I have never used soda water in paint, might give it a try. But baking soda works really nice I have two projects sitting on my fireplace mantel to prove it.

    I just love the ideas for tier trays (though I haven't been brave enough to make one myself). Have you ever used a wider vase or jar as the support on a tier tray and filled it with potpourri or decorations? I guess if you wanted to use the tier tray for different seasons you could use a Mason jar as the support and glue the lid only then be able to remove the top tier by unscrewing it and refill the jar with seasonal things. Lol...Does that make sense?

    This video is awesome! Thank you for posting this video. Everyone is loosing everything right now, and I have been looking for low cost things to use to make people smile. I've also volunteered to visit the Vets in the nursing home here in Temple, TX. I like these small decorations so that they can put in their rooms and not freak out if anyone touches them.
    Years ago when my Mom was in a nursing home I sent her a wreath made with eucalyptus and she started having trouble breathing, so I wanted to warn people about that. What was honestly happening with my Mom was that she was in the process of dying. She smoked 2 pkgs of cigarettes for 40 years and refused to quit. So the nurses said please don't send eucalyptus bc some people may have asthma and other illnesses that maybe aggravated by the scents too.
    I have bought the hurricane glasses for making hurricane drinks so that everyone has a good time when they come to visit. I've use various ways to decorate them, but I will admit that I will copy alot of these to decorate for Christmas.
    Thanks for posting this video. Merry Christmas 2020.

    The best craft for the glassware from the dollar store is to use them to make live Christmas terrariums that we always called berry bowls. You put rocks on the bottom and cover it up with moss and plant little greens like the little princess pines and other green ground covers that grow in the cold end of fall in the woods up here in the north east

      A friend of mines Mom makesa buffet of everyones favorite type finger foods, dips and crackers or chips. She makes sure to include everyones favorites(wings, meatballs, fruity pizza. She does this for xmas cuz everyone goes to so many family dinners that are sitdown dinners.
      However if u want A formal dinner, a fabric tablecloth is essential, makesure to get one that fits the table with all the leaves in It. Also get chargers to put under your plates from dollar tree. Add a runner down the center of the table, and an odd# of centerpieces(1, 3 or 5) depending on size.

    You have some of the sweetest ideas for projects! I love all of the snowmen. I love celebrating Christmas and creating crafts to decorate our home and to give as gifts. I think my favorite glassware items from DT are the little bowls (snowman), the candlesticks and the candle plates. Thanks for the ideas! Blessings all!!!!!

      She DEFINITELY leaves that whole "my head is exploding" vibe pretty regularly! Lol. I have to actually "SHARE" these kinds videos to MYSELF on a text message because there are always soooo many AMAZEBALLZ ideas and my memory is so bad, I'll never remember everything I wanna make. Lol. {I even have to SCREENSHOT the things I need to remember to pick up at DT and I keep those pictures in a special "Dollar Tree" folder in my picture gallery lol}

    A few years back, I made some adorable snowmen using mason jars. Coating them with the iridescent snow and Epsom salts. Colored pipe cleaners twisted together and adding pompoms to make ear muffs. Button eyes. Unfortunately the following year that I brought them out to decorate for Christmas, the epsom salt had turned ashy and was not as appealing as the year before when they were first made. I do really like the ideas that was used in this video. Thank you for sharing.

      Yes, I was completely turned off when the word junky was used. The glassware seems to be universally used by crafters and one of the great finds. I've heard a lot of people refer to the Dollar Tree as a junky store or full of junk that they wouldn't think of using but have later confessed to going there for the glass vases, candle sticks and containers etc. Even they didn't think it was junky.
