The after care care process is so confusing, and there is so much conflicting information between artists. My smp artist told me i need to shampoo after 3 days and really scrub the scalp hard. Also said to shave it and moisturise it from day 3. You are saying not to use shampoo only water after 4 days so contradict what my artist told me. Also with the waiting times between treatments, i waited a week between 1st treatment and 2nd, but some are saying to wait 2 weeks minimum, some 10 days some less so again confusing. I researched my SMP, he has been in the game a long time and i consider him one of the best in the UK, so i have to trust he knows what he is doing. But it still confuses the hell out of me.
Hi there, thanks for your comment. Scalp Micropigmentation impressions are tiny wounds and the skin will still be healing after just 3 days therefore we definitely wouldn't recommend any shampoo or hard scrubbing over the treatment after just 3 days, the same as you wouldn't scrub a new tattoo. We've have been in the SMP industry since it started and have always followed this aftercare process without any issues. With regards to having a 1 week period between sessions 1 and 2, this is perfectly doable but 1 week is the minimum period, we prefer to wait 2 weeks to give the scalp plenty of time to heal and recover but at times we do shorten the treatment schedule if a customer is on a tight schedule. I'd recommend just double checking with your artist about the shampooing and scrubbing after 3 days. The aftercare I have provided here is correct and safe and if followed would not cause any issues whatsoever. Hope that helps 🙏
How about long-term care like when u shampoo can I use a dove scalp care shampoo with zinc. I hear it's very good for the scalp cuz it minimizes inflammation. this seems to be a gray area that no one can really answer. what shampoo to use long term. but from my findings it seems zinc shampoo is a great choice.
Once the treatment is fully healed after 30 days you can use any shampoo. In the earlier healing period we recommend a simple shampoo which doesn't contain harsh chemicals. Dove is absolutely fine to use. Hope that helps 🙏
does the aftercare change at all if you have dermatitis of the scalp? ive finally been able to clear it using a special soap and lubriderm before my last session but now im concerned about having a flare up within the first 5 days when i cannot wash with soap
My personal recommendation for your situation would be to wait at least 3 days until you start using the shampoo again as this is the critical healing period for SMP. Ideally, you should wait longer but a minimum of 3 days will have allowed the main healing process to complete itself. I hope that helps.
Great question! Razor shaving can work as an exfoliant removing layers of skin and over time it will lighten your treatment prematurely. The treatment is also designed to match short shaven hairs whereas when you razor shave sometimes it will remove all of your hair leaving nothing for the Scalp Micropigmentation treatment to blend into as the treatment is blended into your natural hair. Saying this, some customers do still razor shave but in my opinion it really isn’t required and can have the mentioned affects on your treatment meaning you’ll need to attend for touch up sessions sooner than you would have needed to if you used clippers or a foil shaver.
Heavy exercise must be 10 days onwards after any session otherwise you'll sweat out your new treatment while it is still unhealed. You can light exercise after 7 days but no Heavy sweating.
Light sweat is fine after 7 days, you'll want to wait 10 days for excessive sweating therefore I'd recommend waiting 10 days after any treatment session before you return to crossfit etc. We've always followed these aftercare guidelines and our clients have never had any issues. Hope that helps.
@Scalp Culture thank u. What about to prevent dry, flaky scalp? Some people say unsented lubriderm and cocunut oil are really good mosturizers.?? How many days to wait to shampoo or apply mosturizer to scalp and how many times a day and for how long?
@@futbol1972 you can use any moisturizer once the treatment is complete, you can find one which works for your skin type. The other points are covered in the video.
I wash my hair thrice a week.i used minoxidil every night before going to sleep and also used hair oil twice a week ..plus i sweat a lot. Now tell me am i a suitable candidate for SMP ? Please reply
Washing your hair is not an issue but you’d need to stop washing it for 4 days after each treatment session. You could always wash it just prior to each treatment sessions. You would need to stop using Minoxidil after your treatment sessions for a week or two but I would then recommend that you stop using the minoxidil solution and switch to the foam version as it contains less alcohol (alcohol can fade the treatment prematurely especially whilst healing) or you could find the oral version of minoxidil which would cause no issues to your treatment at all. With regards to sweat, regular sweating is not going to affect your healing process but excessive sweating such as going to the gym or doing a long run can sweat your treatment out while it is still healing causing it to fade. There’s no reason why you couldn’t have the Scalp Micropigmentation treatment but you’ll just need to take into account the things I’ve mentioned here. Besides that, you should go for it!
Natural oils will be fine to use on SMP, I for example use tea tree oil, but I’d recommend waiting for 2 weeks before applying anything other than a simple moisturiser just to make sure your treatment is fully healed.
I wouldn't say it could cause the pigment to turn blue but not following the aftercare could lead to other issues such as an infection or pigment spreading. It's important to follow the aftercare.
Thank you for your advice ❤ does day 1 start the day of or next day. Also I am a female that got it for density. Is there any chance of losing hair after touch ups. Thank you in advance 😊
The day after would be day 1 as your treatment could be completed in the evening for example. The treatment won’t damage existing hair growth whatsoever and some have even reported new hair growth after have the Scalp Micropigmentation treatment 😉
Hi i did a hair scalp pigmentation finished my 3 th treatment but i have dandruff and because off that the pigmentation comes off and it become much lighter what should i do? Thanks
Hi. Moisturise plenty between sessions and contact your Scalp Micropigmentation artist if you need additional treatment sessions to complete your look.
For the 2nd and 3rd sessions does the SMP artist make the incision on the same dot as in the 1st session or at a different place thereby increasing density?
As long as the hat is new/clean you can wear it loosely yes but just be sure it doesn't rub on your new treatment. I'd suggest not bothering the treatment at all for the first 3 to 4 days as this is the critical healing period. If you do decide to wipe it over, it should be very lightly and making sure you don't remove any small scabs as this will also remove the pigment while it is still healing.
Personally I wouldn't advise washing a new SMP treatment as you need the impressions to heal small and tidily. You wouldn't want to be opening up those newly formed micro scabs. No harm in waiting a few days while the healing takes place.
We always clean the scalp after each treatment session to remove any excess pigment. Not every clinic does this but we always do so there will be no excess pigment on the scalp to rub off onto pillow cases.

Can i use minoxidil foam after smp and does minoxidil make the ink fade away? Thanx a lot
The foam version is better than the solution as it contains less alcohol, you can use it if necessary once the SMP treatment has fully healed.
What about when to go for a hairdresser blow dry appointment?
What about it?
@@scalpculture How many days post SMP do I have to wait?

If by lotion you mean moisturising cream, you can use any brand of your choice especially once the treatment has fully healed.

What special soap are you using? I have dermatitis aswell 🙁
When do you start counting the days? The day of the procedure is day 0 or day 1
From the following day, this would be my recommendation especially if you had your treatment session late in the day.

Can I put tattoo lotion after the treatment ?
I'd recommend letting it dry heal and only applying any lotions after the 4 day main healing period.

Ah ok that makes sense! Many thanks for replying and sharing your knowledge. I think it's because I was used to wet shaving! Cheers
You’re very welcome 😉
Can I use the razor only in the side of my head ?!!
You should use a shaver ideally as you need some hair growth to match the Scalp Micropigmentation treatment.
