Have you grown your own and now you’re wondering how to process Loofahs? Are you wondering what to do with Loofah gourds? This no-fuss method will make your life easy and ensure that your Luffa processing is quick and easy.
Here I will show you how to process loofahs how to extract the sponge and how to clean it up for use around the house. We also talk about what to do with Loofah Gourds.
Growing Loofahs is such a fun thing to do and it is a great way to reduce your plastic by replacing plastic sponges with home grown ones! Not only that but Loofahs are great for your skin, hard wearing and brilliant at scrubbing your dishes and those stubborn marks.

6:16 hello and thank you for your very nicely done video. I have been growing loofah for many years and look forward every year to the huge yellow flowers and huge green leaves. I also love to see all the pollinators which include different varieties of bees and butterflies I also look forward to seeing their footprints on the pedals of the flowers I like my loofah to be as light a color as possible, so I do bleach them. Last year I tried dying them colors to match people's bathroom scheme . It's a little more work but lots of fun when you give one as a gift to a friend. 😊
Oooh that’s such a fun idea, I love it 😃❤️ thank you for sharing 🥰
Brilliant. Thanks Beccy. I've planted out my two precious seedlings. Looking forward to a harvest 🌏💚💙🌿🍃🌱
Wooo! So exciting!!! 🥳🥳🥳
Thanks bevvy I'm about to harvest my first ever loofah and now I know what to do with it, so great thanks x
You’re most welcome! Enjoy! 😍😍
I love your loofah videos. I am about to harvest my first loofahs! Thanks for the information.
You’re so welcome! I hope they’re helpful (sorry for the very late response, I hope you enjoy your luffas!) ❤️
Very interesting! Never grown them but curious. Thank you for the video 😊 💚🌿
Aww thank you, they’re amazing aren’t they?! 😍 x
I prefer to harvest them when they're still solid, as they come out more white and it stimulates more to grow. You don't get seeds though, unfortunately.
But if you harvest them early you can use the gooey inner bits for other projects.
what "other" projects do you do with the gooey innards?
Top quality vid/editing 👍😍😎. Very informative and cool, thank you. I might try some next year 😍😎👍🇬🇧🌍
Aww thank you so much! They’re so much fun to grow, definitely worth trying! 😃
Thank you for the video! I had bad information from online saying to peel the loofahs with a vegetable peeler. It leaves more flesh to be cleaned off later. I prefer your method!
Question: Some seeds are white and others are black. Are the white ones immature, as with watermelon, or did I grow two different varieties of Loofahs?
Some of the white seeds are big and seem mature.
Yes white are immature seeds and won’t germinate (although I imagine technically they could!). Thank you so much for watching, sorry for the slow response ❤️
Thank you!🦋
I never knew these were a plant.😔
They’re extra cool right?! 😍
I live in southwest Alabama and my loofah vines produced about 60 gourds this year. I have never had so many at one time. lol Some dried on the vines and some had to be removed from the vines before they were dried. I had so many I placed several of them in a cardboard box to dry. Some are still firm and have some weight to them. Would it be possible to dry the still green ones by sewing a string through the top and hanging them in a dry carport to dry? I have some that never dried and are rotten inside with mold. How can I prevent that from happening. Most have dried slowly and are hard to peel when completely dry. Any suggestions would help. Thanks
Yes you can definitely hang them to dry. Sadly some will never dry if they were harvested too early and are more likely to rot. But it sounds like you had a great crop!
Really enjoyed this video, do you have any recommendations of where to get Loofah seeds from? Thanks 😊
Aww thank you so much! You can get them online. I got mine through a seed swap. I have plenty now….. 😉
