A great exercise to increase speed is starting with a slow/med tempo, let's say from 85 to 90 and practicing every length of notes, whole notes, half notes, quater notes, 1/8th notes, then 1/16th notes. Once you get the hang of the scratch your working on with 1/16th notes then increase the tempo. It's not necessarily how fast of a tempo you can scratch to but how reps you can fit in the beat your using. I hope that helps a litte.
Keep your scratch game strong, put in work. ;)

Hey DJTLM, this is a message to the guy with the broken equipment. There are some places that have a lease to own program for dj equipment. It is a 2 to 3 year lease for around 50 to 60 dollars a month. It depends on how much the equipment cost. That is how I got my ddjsx . I got it two years ago. At the end of the lease you have the option to return the item or purchase it.

Do you have any experience with the Gemini PT2000 III turntables? I know your stance on turntables and turntablism and it’s easier to learn on tables and I’ve found a set of these locally at a steal... thinking of picking them up to start working on scratching myself. just curious if you’ve ever played on them and if they would be sufficient to learn on.

    Hey DJ TLM
I am an inspire DJ from israel 19 years old and i need your opinion about changing styles for clubs
in my country most of the clubs and pubs hear and play dancehall and trap music and I am a EDM house/trace DJ
so my question is should i change my style or keep with it and try to "show the world" the EDM style?
    Thanks in advance

dude i think u should keep your style...and u should try to play some other genres
even i'm in the same situation...im an 19 years old DJ from India ...most of the people in India always like to hear Bollywood music..... but i really dont like Bollywood music as a DJ...cuz that genre is not made for DJing..I always love to play ElectroHouse and Psytrance....I got many compliments from many people...that.."Hey man you are playing really good"....and they r enjoying my music.....Build ur skills in DJing and All The Best

spitting lines and hosting your own show - just before the 1 beat falls -
just feel the music, and judge how long it takes to say what u wanna say
judge where to start. Try fit what ur saying into the last 2 bars, or the last 4 or 8 or 16 bars - if its as long as 16 bars, thats more of an intro or shout outs, then u could turn down music or filter the track and just keep chatting - when u get to the last part of ur words, wait till the last few bars of the phrase of music - then say the last 1 or 2 lines, before the drop, drops, -- learn phrasing and naturaly hear the tune while your talkin over it

Thanks a lot Bro, for #sharetheknowledge. Your tips did help. I now see that I can pre-recording the lines & play it back with the phrase which will make it easier testing it out.

Thank for answering my question. I might have mistyped my question but I never download from you tube at all because of the sound quality. I get all of my music from Promo Only and other dj pools as well as amazon and iTunes. I like how you do your videos outside when the weather is nice. I do my scratches right handed also, left handed I'm not that good with scratches. Got to work on that more. Keep up the good work thank you for you time.

How to get opportunities to play local clubs & pubs?
If we get opportunity to play at club how much we demand money to them?

    • @djTLMtv
      @djTLMtv  8 років тому

Both topics have been covered and I'm sure I will talk about it again and again, but this is not something I can answer in a short reply. Look up my "how much should you charge for a gig" video
But start with this: practice, work hard, network, work hard, promote yourself, work hard, engage people online, work hard.

It really depends on your city! if it's a smaller city, here in the U.S you can't really ask for too much money, but if it is a bigger city, Like Austin (for example) you can ask for more money, because more people go to clubs and theres more money flow in general. It also depends on the size of the club. I wouldn't charge the same amount for a club that fits 3000 people and one that fits 200. I hope this helped, salute to you from Dj Young Italy
