      I've got a rather long and rambly post on Cory's video getting into the weeds on it.. but in short, I gave up on the GoW series back on 2. Outgrew it a bit (or just got old, depending on your perspective). Stopped caring long ago. It was hard to avoid the buzz & hype & amazing screenshots.. but still didn't really care. Cory's reaction there made me care. Cory's emotional investment sold me, full stop. Bought it two days later. Probably only the second or third game I've bought at launch in a decade.

Most companies nowadays are always playing it safe, no new innovations, rely on franchises and big names, try to appeal to the biggest audience but what it results in is the complete lack of great new ips that this industry buids on. Which is why GoW 2018 still stands out as one of the greatest achievements in video game history; it was bold, it was daring and incredible risky and that's why it stands out of most games today.

      @Yourmomisaboot 5 років тому +14

      You're not entirely wrong. But you are missing a very key factor. Santa Monica had A LOT of money to make this game. There are only a handful of studios that have the opportunity to fund a team that large for that long of a period without incoming revenue. So everyone else has to make do with what they have and make enough money to keep going afterwards. They did a fantastic job in the end, but I'm sure if you gave every studio out there this kind of cash you would see a lot more top tier games like this. But that's such a big risk, that you will only see it very rarely and usually with publisher funded titles like this.

People lost their tempers, broke down in tears, said things out loud that I never expected people to say on such a massive, successful project. Game dev is an all-consuming job, and even if it sounds obvious on paper, the fact this documentary was honest about all of it - the highs, the lows, the messy parts, the arguments - is valuable.

    This must be the fourth or fifth time I'm watching it. It's really, really encouraging to see for any person in a creative pursuit. It's important to remember that even people who made one of the best games gaming has to offer had doubts, fears, and struggled to make this vision a reality. Not some cold-blooded masterminds who knew it all right from the start, but people who go through same things everyone else does. Yet threw themselves at what they thought impossible regardless, and exceeded it. In GDC presentation, Cory said he didn't think it will be even remotely close to winning game of the year. But that's what you do. You doubt, fear, struggle, but give it your all anyway. Come failure or success. You'll never know until you get there.

His personality is probably what makes him both the best and worst kind of person to work for and with but it is absolutely worth it in the end. I love how much he's grown and how it's bled into the game. This is by far one of the greatest games of all time and it will continue to be so. Thank you to all who have worked on this franchise and for making a documentary for it. All the sacrifices and hard work have impacted millions and millions of people in such a wonderful way.

      THAT'S why I had no hesitation dropping the $150 for the Stone Mason edition. If it wasn't SSM I might have waited and missed out on it. Now I'm just waiting for the next one to go up for pre-order lol

    Wow. I put this off for a while because of the length and I legitimately regret it so much. This was incredible. This was insightful. All the interviews and clips from development were so real and the emotions are so raw. You feel the sacrifice that everyone made to be part of this. You feel the amount of passion and love they all have for their project. You feel genuinely so happy for them by the end because their hard work paid off and they get to see that for themselves. Just such a great documentary
