I have been studying Durer’s technique from at least 10 years and Im still struggling to get a fraction of his talent still. He was the best.
I was a little girl, when my grandfather introduced me to Albrecht Duerer. I remember looking at those incredible drawings for hours, trying to recreate them (starting with the pillows) and trying to apply the technique to things we saw in our sourroundings. Love to see this and be reminded of my childhood. Thank you! Best regards from Germany 👋
Very cool! And congrats on choosing the pillows as your study - that's a challenging one. Thanks for watching!
I really enjoyed this. I appreciate your points and want to give this more attention now:)
Amazing, I actually found your channel looking for Durer's studies, but that was a little bit of time ago. Thanks.
I'm glad you found my channel! Dürer was a request from viewers, most of the master studies are by request, and there's a long list of many more to come.
The flowers on your worksurface are a nice touch. Good luck, moving is stressful.
Thank you! 😊
Best of luck in your move! Found your channel recently and have been loving it so far, keep creating!
Much appreciated 😀
Don't forget that those are wood engravings, so basically Dürer was drawing with a knife in negative
Even more challenging for sure.
video theme suggestion: presenting top 10/20 biggest drawing artists on a timeline ( or other group you like)
ooh, thank you, that would be a fun video to make (and perfect for doing while on the road). Like!
@@longstrideillustration Yes it would be really cool if you could share some of your knowledge on how ink techniques have evolved over time, starting from medieval ones all the way to contemporary work with small examples, maybe? It would be very interesting.
Brilliant tutorial as always. 😁
Good luck moving to your new province!
It always shocks me how these really complex looking drawings ultimately break down to very simple lines and hatchings, applied right.
True!
Funnily enough I was examining Durer's hatching only yesterday. I can see why he was so highly regarded.
Dürer worked hard to improve the arts of that time, the hours spent trying to figure stuff out and the evolution of his pieces were evident - I was in awe studying his linework for sure.
Great channel I'm 67 in two weeks, and I'm trying to prove to myself I'm not to old to learn😅
True!
Awesome video! Duhrer's hatching are incredible! Thanks for sharing this.
I love your videos, always interesting and inspiring!
Would it be possible to display the title of the works that you show on the screen for us, simple laymen?
Keep up the great work!
Great suggestion! I'll include more on-screen info in future videos. For this one, the two pieces I inked samples from were: Prodigal Son and Four Horsemen.
Omg yes! Been waiting for this one 🙌
My pleasure!
@@longstrideillustrationI’ve started your pen and ink course too. It’s brilliant so far :)
Amazing artist. I have the knight the devil and death on my wall.
Wow cool video thank you for sharing 😍❤️❤️
Glad you enjoyed it
Wow, I can't do this with nib tipped quills. I can only manage with Micron. I lack control of nibs in my level of skill at this point. Beautiful and educational work as always, I learn so much from you.
awesome! been waiting for this one!
Excellent video. Thank you. Good luck on the move!
Thank you!
I for one am well acquainted with cats and small work spaces, lol. My desk is a highway.
Then, you know all about the Zoomies 😺
Loved it! As usual! :D
Yay, thank you!
cool video thank you for sharing!
these are amazing! though I think my hands are a lot more shaky than yours haha I always make so many mistakes 😂
One plans as best as possible to limit such problem-solving situations (agonizing), but sometimes it's best just to go with the flow 😅 Sounds like you know what I mean.
Thank you! Have you ever thought about doing something from the world of table top rpgs? In particular Russ Nicholson and pictures like the Grell. He has a unique style that, while a bit whimsical, is still captivating. Or Iain McCaig's early pen and inks from the Fighting Fantasy Gamebook series like City of Theives or Deathtrap Dungeon. Thanks again! I hope the move goes as smoothly as possible.
Thank you for the suggestions. I'm already a fan of Iain McCaig and had not heard on Russ Nicholson. I had a look at the Grell and added it to the list 👍
An excellent video. I just subscribed. Thanks. What ink are you using?
Thanks for the sub! I usually list the materials used in each video in the description with links. If I missed the ink, it's Speedball Super Black India ink. You can also find the tools I recommend in general on my website's tool page: longstrideillustration.com/tools/
@@longstrideillustration WOW! What an excellent and detailed link. Thank you.
If you are moving to Northern California and setting up classes…. Please let me know!
I have an online class on Dip Pens so far and one coming out in the Fall for Master Studies. I'd love to visit California - I've never been.
Hi Chloe, Could you tell me where you sorce your pictures from? Also on your ipad you enlarge the photo and its very clear. When I do it the picture becomes very pixelated and loose all detail. Thanks Mike ps Love your videos have seen everyone and have learnt so much thanks!
Thanks for asking, it turns out that the link I left in the description for the high-resolution images was faulty. I updated it: www.metmuseum.org/toah/hd/durr/hd_durr.htm
@@longstrideillustration thanks a lot Chloe it works perfectly just what I wanted. Thanks
It is Cooper engraving and I havet his bock of woodcut
You mean that german is responsible create all artist we know today?
You realise, I assume, that what you copying are woodcut prints not drawings?
Oh, maybe you missed the start of the video, I mention this in this intro. Indeed, the majority of the Master Artists from the earlier eras (before the 1800's) were print makers, however much can be learned from their skills and knowledge.
