I don't agree. This is human understanding. Only because I am going through the initiations myself. I am a heart transplant recipient. I am currently going through rejection and heart failure at the same time. I have died 5 times. I have been in heaven 3 times. Don't care to be validated by man. Man had to get it from spirit. Yes this was Done in a certain way. Time's have changed. We are in 5d now. We need teachers. If the heart is willing that's all that matters. I have been a Babalawó for over 26 years and a few years ago a man claiming to have a hand of Ifá in traditional African Ifá in a polite but forceful manner asked to teach me Ifá. Giving him the benefit of the doubt I consulted my Ifá and the answer was not just no, but hell no! By the way his ordun in his awofaka was Ofun Tempola (Otura). As it turned out he had a copy of Fasina Falade's book "Ifá The Keys To It's Understanding"; I too have a copy of this very good book. This relates to the topic of this video because even though it is important for one to study of their own accord to gain a deeper understanding of this religion, (or any subject for that matter), simply by studying or by having one good book does not give one the spiritual authority to initiate oneself or others, nor will it give authority to teach. Joseph, if you haven't covered it in depth yet, perhaps this area of studying would make a good video? In my view a good approach would be to explain the levels of initiation and what a person can or should not do (is not authorized to do) and their respective responsibilities at each level of initiation starting after receiving the "collares" and/or "guerreros." You could start with "espiritismo", then progress to "santo", then on to Ifá. I haven't seen all of your videos, I'm working on it, so you may have already covered these topics. Knowing their responsibilities will guide someone to study material at their level of initiation, for example before or after someone receives "collares and/or "guerreros" they could purchase books by Allan Kardec and begin to learn about "espiritismo" then move on to other books such as "El Monte". People want to initiate themselves to pick their own parents when it doesn't even work like that. Mainly people want to say they are children of Oshun, Yemeya or whoever they start to like and get offended and think they have been scammed when they find out their real parent.

I'm not initiated per-say, but I do have family members who are or were, so some items are automatically easily identifiable and know how to use them properly (I do my research, but mainly guided by family who are in the religion officially who help me on a superficial level till I get officially initiated as well). One thing I am still frustrated with myself is trying to figure out the slight differences between plants used in cleansing and attraction baths, as well as plants that are planted in front of the house to protect the those living there. For example, how to tell the difference between male and female Ruda or Rue plants. 🥺 There are also such tiny differences between espanta, muerto, abre cameno and many others who look almost exactly the same... there are tiny differences that let you know of their differences. So many videos and information about Lucumi, but nothing about knowing the plants, their details to know the differences and not make any mistakes on identification. Further note, the money issue is one thing, it is a whole other thing finding the right people to do the rituals and teachings, etc (that is way harder than the money thing). Money can be arranged (in my mind I think a contract can be made that both parties agree to and go from there; I'm keeping in-touch with a spiritualist who is looking for another Godparent because the original one passed away). It is finding the right folks that is hard, especially with all of the drama and difficulties within the community. Yes, once again South Florida becomes a great example at how messed up this religion is becoming due to scammers and lairs. I found a few I trust, but they live outside my range and I can't meet with them. 😔I have family that depend on me. So far I am ranging to make a personal sacrifice on leaving my current job (in two months leaving the education system behind) to be my own business and focus selling hand-made items, so I can focus on studying more about this religion.
Having just finished Igbodu Ifa, the simple truth is while self initiating is appealing for various reasons the initiate will in fact miss significant and necessary segments of the tradition. Our egos want to believe that we can cover all of the bases and I assure you that something will be overlooked. Whether in Osogbo or Ire in "the room" things must be addressed properly and to completion. There is a reason why a group is there with you. There are reasons why you have guides assigned to you. Even finding a guide has its formalities. All has purpose. I have made friends through this walk and that is a blessing as well. Omo Elegua aka Eshu Awo Tolu and now just call me " Tako"! There are other schools of thought that teaches self initiation but I don't see I being very practical in the tradition because of the nature of the practices of our tradition/religion

i made ocha in 2019 and i dont even see how three four ppl could conduct an OCHA ceremony let alone ONE .. there was atleast 50 or 60 ppl present for my 7 day ceremony and it was like 17 or 18 Oloorishas present so...

You just described my journey with the Orisha. As far as the first 30 years not feeling moved my the faith of my father .
People want to initiate themselves to pick their own parents when it doesn't even work like that.
Mainly people want to say they are children of Oshun, Yemeya or whoever they start to like and get offended and think they have been scammed when they find out their real parent.

I'm not initiated per-say, but I do have family members who are or were, so some items are automatically easily identifiable and know how to use them properly (I do my research, but mainly guided by family who are in the religion officially who help me on a superficial level till I get officially initiated as well). One thing I am still frustrated with myself is trying to figure out the slight differences between plants used in cleansing and attraction baths, as well as plants that are planted in front of the house to protect the those living there. For example, how to tell the difference between male and female Ruda or Rue plants. 🥺 There are also such tiny differences between espanta, muerto, abre cameno and many others who look almost exactly the same... there are tiny differences that let you know of their differences. So many videos and information about Lucumi, but nothing about knowing the plants, their details to know the differences and not make any mistakes on identification.
Further note, the money issue is one thing, it is a whole other thing finding the right people to do the rituals and teachings, etc (that is way harder than the money thing). Money can be arranged (in my mind I think a contract can be made that both parties agree to and go from there; I'm keeping in-touch with a spiritualist who is looking for another Godparent because the original one passed away). It is finding the right folks that is hard, especially with all of the drama and difficulties within the community. Yes, once again South Florida becomes a great example at how messed up this religion is becoming due to scammers and lairs. I found a few I trust, but they live outside my range and I can't meet with them. 😔I have family that depend on me. So far I am ranging to make a personal sacrifice on leaving my current job (in two months leaving the education system behind) to be my own business and focus selling hand-made items, so I can focus on studying more about this religion.

Having just finished Igbodu Ifa, the simple truth is while self initiating is appealing for various reasons the initiate will in fact miss significant and necessary segments of the tradition. Our egos want to believe that we can cover all of the bases and I assure you that something will be overlooked. Whether in Osogbo or Ire in "the room" things must be addressed properly and to completion. There is a reason why a group is there with you. There are reasons why you have guides assigned to you. Even finding a guide has its formalities. All has purpose. I have made friends through this walk and that is a blessing as well. Omo Elegua aka Eshu Awo Tolu and now just call me " Tako"! There are other schools of thought that teaches self initiation but I don't see I being very practical in the tradition because of the nature of the practices of our tradition/religion

i made ocha in 2019 and i dont even see how three four ppl could conduct an OCHA ceremony let alone ONE .. there was atleast 50 or 60 ppl present for my 7 day ceremony and it was like 17 or 18 Oloorishas present so...
Wow I’m so FUCKN GRATEFUL FOR THIS VIDEO I have been initiated by the priesthood of vestía. I was brought up catholic and learned the Christian Christ ways. So much sacrifices to gain wisdom and knowledge and break generational curses. Coming down to the Egyptian ways the Hindu ways the Druid and Toltec teachings and Buddha teachings as well as I come from the aztec blood line and I learned all this in my shaman initiation as I went into a trans and I’ve always had mental illness and family issues. I am now learning out mamma oshun and African ways I’m so thankful we are all one. But i can’t understand how you get initiated just by a certificate. I’m here willing to guid and navigate the shadows and I need proof to show and help others by my gifts. Crazy

Elegua keeps visiting me in my dreams and also presented himself to me during meditation. I am not initiated , but he does show me things he would like offered to him (I have a small ancestral altar). I know the Orisha’s get offended easily , so I don’t want to begin offering and then he may expect more or I potentially offend him. But I was wondering if it’s okay to leave him popcorn or a cigar as he has been asking for

Is learning of Orisha and paying homage to these energies self initiation? I would never say I self initiated but I love the Orishas and each day or so I learn of new ones..I named my daughter after Oshun & Yemaya...I know I know LITTLE..but I want to check in and see. I met someone but felt he used his priest hood to scam me and lure me into his bed, which I didn't go...but he mentioned Yamaya stopped me?..The whole idea set me back and I thought nah...initiation isn't for me..but is it?..My life has become so focused on this subject. Can anyone help me?
