I just want to point out that Steve immediately started to throw a tantrum when it started to look like he might not get exactly what he wanted, and basically tried to pressure them into accepting his offer without thinking about it further (by threatening to withdraw if they didn't accept on the spot). They hadn't even given any indication that they were rejecting his offer - they just wanted to talk about it some more, and he immediately freaked out and went "Well if you don't accept right now, I'm out". That's really shady, and you should be concerned if someone with much more power and money than you, who you're about to go into a shared business with, starts acting like that before you've even sealed the deal. Because he's exactly the kind of person who will throw his weight around like that EVERY time he wants something.
Honestly tho. These people are overlooking his expertise, experience, and knowledge oh god…plus he is straightforward, no bs, just straight to business and he gives really great advice a lot of times. But I guess his image appears intimidating for many for how he is portrayed in this show and how he’s treated by members (joke or not). But in business, expertise shared on the table is asset itself other than equity. But for some people that needs just the equity and who mostly excel with their business, they would want a kinder investor and a kinder stake.
Neither my husband nor I had ever held a newborn baby until we had our first son. We were so terrified of hurting him in some way that we called a friend's Mom who was a pediatric nurse and begged her to come help us give him his first bath. A realistic practice baby wouldn't have been a totally bad idea.
@CreativeHandle ??? And how would someone go about taking care of a baby before they have a baby and have never grown up around babies before. Unprotected sex results in babies if it’s in the right window
That bug girl is darling and I love her. She’s adorable. The fact that she grew up catching bugs, and then grew up to be a bug scientist (can’t remember the scientific name) it’s just so cute. She’s like a cartoon character.
I understand Steve's frustration. It's upsetting to get ignored when you are clearly the most qualified just because you dont put on a cute friendly facade
Definitely. Steve is the epitome of being a finance/engineer type of guy. Doesn't show a lot of emotion. Straight to the point. All about the reality and doesn't mince words. Absolutely zero sugar coating. But I honestly believe he's got heart of gold behind all that. Just, not well transmitted to others. He was upset the product was never gonna reach its full potential as a medical studies aid and will be eating dust in some photographer's basement.

@@BLAKEEATS1988 he is rich enough not to do that stuff I guess. Its not like he is desperate to invest, I think it just hurts when he gets rejected, but not that much that he would want to change his personality over it

I very much dislike Gates for being an entitled, whiny brat and fighting against the covid vaccine manufacturing info being open to all countries..But not taking advantage of the ridiculous amount of money he has thrown into the gates foundation to get your product out there is straight insanity.
It sounds like they were thinking ONLY of photography, and not all the massive uses in the medical profession (at least from what I've seen so far, I haven't finished the clip.) I thought it was for parenting classes until they started talking non-stop about photography poses.
wow. I finished the clip. Yeah crazy. I think his response is valid, he was clearly the right shark for their business. Then the things the other sharks said to discourage the couple from picking him and also their response when he got mad as probably the worst behavior I've seen from them so far. I still think what I said about them focusing on photography is true. I think they had no sight on the medical industry and considered it just a second smaller opportunity instead of the main income stream that it could have been
Them talking about photographers being their target audience was ridiculous. The medical industry is RIGHT there. it’s perfect for CPR training, etc too

Right?! On top of the fact that he offered exactly what they were asking for, and having the connections, he’s one person. Now the have to deal with two different people without connections. I don’t understand that choice at all.

Agreed, as yucky as it seems initially it is actually a really good idea. In the west we usually think of insects as dirty or something but tons of places eat them. Not to mention the way they treat animals in industrial farms is way yuckier than any bug, so anything that can reduce our dependence on that type of farming is a good idea in my books.

We already have stand in babies. There are all sorts of dolls for this very purpose. The only thing different about their doll was that it had more positions it could be put in. But that isn't a bonus for anything but photography. For anything medical, they would need to add features. Like an electronic interface to make it have vital signs that are adjustable, different holes for inserting tubes, self healing skin on the arms/legs for IV sticks, etc. It would be a whole new product.
Do you not realize that nothing is finalized on the show? She does have a bit of time and the opportunity to ask advice from others on whether or not to go through with it.
It's funny how people use bugs for most of your dyes in foods and sweets..... and some people already eat bugs as is now just cooked, safely prepared, and more convenient

The g stick thing (called a tongue cleaner) is so common here in India, almost all households have a few in use. It is used every single day. It is sold for Rs. 10 per piece ( ~ USD 0.2)
The *"Earsox"* business entrepreneur said the hairdresser having to clean the dye off her ears after getting her hair dyed was embarrassing, yet she's pitched A product that's essentially a condom for your ears. Huh?!
and how old is this because, im a hairdresser & there is already something like this, i dunno if it's an old episode, but these are used by tons of us now.
It was absolutely embarrassing how little prep she did for her pitch - how many seconds did it last? I mean wanting that amount of money yet doing a pitch like that. Everyone was laughing their head off - her too, but you knew even before watching til the end that nobody would invest in her.
50% of the bug lady’s company was robbery. The shark did they because everyone else declined her offer, so it was easy to try to steal 50% of her hard work and dedication to her business.
I think it was a tough decision but it’s very likely she made a good choice that’s beneficial. She could have easily held out and continued to make decent profit or possibly exploded in growth in the future on her own. However, now she can continue to do what she loves (working with bugs and developing products) while her partner pushes the business and boosts her sells. I think overall she made a good decisions but i definitely would have pushed for more like 40-45% to retain control of my own company.
Maybe, but she also said that this business wasn't her actual job, so having a 50/50 partner might be beneficial for her if she's going to continue working her day job
Loved the bug product, but the set up was a bit odd. I liked that she pointed out that the biggest selling feature of her product is not having to look at or think about the insects, but shes also marketed the product as The Edible Bug Shop with a big bug mascot. Still, it's a great product and I'd be willing to try a bug cookie. Edit: It seems marketing teams may have helped to ammend this concern as her business has changed to "Circle Harvest" rather than remaining as "The Edible Bug Shop". Bugs remain on the packaging, but in a tasteful and even cute way. I'd love to try some of the new products they're offering now that I see some research has been put in to better marketing.
How old are these episodes? Especially the last one with the Earsox. Because I live in Japan and whenever I go to get my hair dyed, the hairsalon uses the exact same thing to protect my ears, though not as tight a fit, but still works well.
Yes, she seemed 1000% lovely which is why it’s pretty gross the sharks encouraged her... she didn’t have a product at ALL, and she doesn’t have $80k either... every penny after that she loses I blame on the sharks. Clearly not playing with a full deck (at least re: business/money/reality) and that’s just not right, to be in a great position to level with her and just... choosing not to🙅🏼♀️🥴
Tbh the ear socks is not the worst idea . I am a hairdresser and u have no idea how hard it is to remove dye stains especialy on the ears (and how uncomfortable ut is for both the client and I) . The insect flour actually maybe a logical solution and maybe really good food substitute, but I think you can't get people to get over the fact that they are eating bugs. I also know that in are current processed foods we eat a ton of bugs a year, but it still makes people physically ill knowing they are eating bugs! Like humans have been eating bugs for protein since the dawn of mankind, but it's just so hard to get over. I'm sure they will rename it something Ausie so it isn't "bug flour", I am also sure it is completely healthy to eat and will not have any ill health effects and might be really much more health benefits, but mentally it is just hard for people to mentally to consume!
Idk, I feel like many have gotten over the fact that the meat they consume likely comes from an animal that was abused from birth until death. It’s really the end product that actually matters, which is why the cookie was the first and only thing that was sampled by some of the sharks. Not being so forward with the source being bugs would probably help the business go further. Protein Flower is a lot easier to market than Bug Flower.

Okay but we need to stop normalising adult men who use abusive behaviour to get their way. Everyone here is like "they should've gone with Steve" - Steve's behaviour was really inappropriate here, especially given the huge power imbalance between him and the entrepreneurs, and kinda proves that they made a good choice by not taking him on-board. He hits them with a "too good to be true" deal. They go off to talk about it. When they come back, ALL they are doing is trying to get more information and ask some more questions. They have not said anything about what deal they will or will not take. Steve immediately responds very negatively, and attempts to pressure them into accepting his deal WITHOUT the information they want (by threatening to take back "the perfect deal" if they don't instantly accept). At that point he's trying to cause fear to get them to make an uninformed decision. He then spends the entire rest of the time sulking like a child. Listen to his tone - he sounds like a kid who's been told he can't have cookies before dinner. Again, they did not say ANYTHING to make him think they weren't going to take his deal. They even reassured him when he directly asked about that. He has no reason to freak out like this, but he's already acting like they're not going to pick him. Is that really the kind of guy any of you would want to be working with? Please keep in mind that he's rich, and vastly more powerful than the entrepreneurs. If this is how he behaves on national TV, when they haven't agreed to anything yet, and literally all they're asking for is more information - how is he going to behave behind closed doors, when they try to make a business decision he doesn't like? People here are making it sound like he maybe doesn't get a ton of entrepreneurs on-board. I can kinda see why, from this clip. You guys have to realise they're not just asking for money. They are entering into a long-term partnership with these people, with a massive power imbalance not in their favour, that will not be easy to get out of. You don't want anyone who is giving off even the slightest WHIFF of "abusive", because they will only get worse under those conditions.
I’m not sure when this is from (I know the video was posted 8 months ago as of writing this comment but not sure when the clip is from) but I literally bought a tongue cleaner two months ago and there were so so many different ones at the store. The G-stick is definitely not the first of its kind and the idea of tongue cleaning has been around for a long long time. There are even rubber bits on the back of most toothbrushes from the past 10-15 years made specifically for cleaning your tongue.

Why is everyone shocked about the tongue scraper... I've been using one since I was a kid...
@@jcpark1125 agree I like his straight forwardness.
Neither my husband nor I had ever held a newborn baby until we had our first son.

Those underarm things were out in the 80's and 90's, I believe they were called dress shields. I don't remember them selling very well as they made your shirt or dress very stiff. I think it was fair

You made some seriously great points!
Loves bugs as pets - then presents bug cookies. That was a plot twist.
The ones that live long are able to develop personalities. The ones that become flour do not live long at all. Trust me, those crickets don’t have personalities.
@@theonionqueen3519 neither does my boss but i won't be eating him.
Id love to go back years later and see how the biz did where do we find that info?
A tongue scraper costs a dollar at Dollar Tree!!!!!!! They haven't heard of a tongue scraper 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I don't get why people don't pick Steve. In my opinion he is the most honest and straightforward person in the lot and if I had to do business with someone I'd look for someone like him.
My mom was a childbirth/infant care educator and she had one of those exact babies. I guess they were somewhat successful.
@357 223 wow you’re hilarious. When’s your Netflix standup special coming out?
Market for training simulators is big, but this is definitely not the first newborn simulator with articulation. Gaumard, CAE healthcare and Laerdal all have several different pediatric simulators.
