City of Lakewood to start taking action on vacant buildings

The city will start requiring owners of some vacant properties to start registering with the city and pay a fee, as well as additional fines if their property becomes a hot spot for crime.

Here's a better idea, make it to where if these buildings sit vacant for at least one year, demolition is mandatory and then auction off that property that the building was sitting on to small business entrepreneurs...also, stop building brand new apartment complexes every quarter mile..and if they insist on doing so, have armed guards protecting the apartment properties to keep out the damned copper thieves and squatters who have a tendency to destroy anything and everything that they come into contact with.
