    Great video. I like how on these videos on youtube they talk like 99% of the people have depth finders. I'd bet my money it's no were close to 25-30%.

      It sure is full of them! I’ve yet to try an area and not catch at least some channel cats

      Have you tried Phantom? I started fishing along the west flats from silos north and there are a ton of keep sized channel catfish there. I haven't found that at Kirby yet but I haven't tried the west flats of that lake either which may be where they are.

      RespectTheFish no I haven’t tried phantom for channel catfish but I have for blue and flathead catfish. I will definitely give it a try though. Do you have any tips on where to go for blue and flathead catfish later in the fall when it starts to cool down? I have fished for blues and flatheads but not much at all and have yet to catch a flathead. I’m fairly new to fishing phantom for catfish. I usually fish Kirby.

      I don't fish for catfish at phantom often but have done very well on the western flats the silos sit on all the way up to Apache lane years back in fall/winter but I bet its good in there year round. I plan to put some shallow water trotline out in there this winter and see what happens. I hardly bait with live bait but I bet its probably a great area for flathead catfish. All I know is I have trotlined consistently around rocky drop offs and banks and rarely catch anything so I wouldn't waste my time doing that unless they are spawning which I heard is the place to be.

    What water temp does it take for the shallow water channel cat bite to kick off?

    • @Gibsonguitarman89
      @Gibsonguitarman89  4 роки тому

      I’ve never tried to get on the bite early because hybrid fishing is so good until middle of summer and then gets tough.
      From what I hear I would try this summer channel cat fishing starting in June. I would imagine it’s better to focus on rocky structure first because they will be looking to spawn in the cavities. As summer progresses they seem to move away from the rocks and more focus on mud that’s and cattails. Just my observation. Good thing is it’s really easy to try a few things and keep notes on what works and doesn’t work and figure out our lakes!

    Taking my lil one out this weekend. Curious on how long the bait stores for (fridge or pantry) as well as if you need to bait the hole a few days.
    Great video with fall around the corner I may be running to late but worth a shot

      Good luck man! I bet you’ll get into them. Best areas at my local muddy lakes are typically around cattails in 3.5-5 fow. Store bait in frig or it will mold really quick. One container molded that I left in my ice chest all week but still used it after adding cattails fuzz to it to thicken it back up and caught tons of fish today on that and/or CJs punch bait.
      What I recommend is running out to the lake and maybe bait three spots using 1/3 of a bag of 20% range cubes at each spot then go back to spot one and start fishing. I don’t think prebaiting is necessary but if you do just drop milo in the water even unfermented and it does better than range cubes because it won’t dissolve into nothing like range cubes do in short time....milo is there until eaten.
      Let me know how it goes! You’re not too late because I’m catching the fire out of them even today. One tip, we are way post spawn so I’d look at more cattails and stick ups than rocky banks....at least I’ve noticed at my lakes I’m doing better in those areas. Try and place your bait within a few feet of the cattails and you’ll catch more!

    How do you store this bait for a later date?

    • @Gibsonguitarman89
      @Gibsonguitarman89  2 роки тому

      I don't store shad for later. Most avid catfish anglers will say it just doesn't work well once frozen or stored in fridge for several days, plus the shad which is already fragile seems to get even more fragile once stored for any amount of time.
      I do go bowfishing to store up on carp though. I freeze them and they work well even after being stored for several months.
      A catfish guide once taught me "catfish like their food just like you like your steak, fresh and never frozen".
