I recommend getting into cards or even board games. There’s classics like bridge, spades, hearts that would probably be your type of people. But there’s also newer games that are surprisingly well designed for socializing. It’s not the type of crowd that drinks or does drugs. I find it’s an easy medium to hang out with people you don’t know too well, and while not everybody I’ve played with became a friend, I’ve met a surprising amount of people I keep in contact with. Seems to be the kind of hobby that attracts a like minded crowd.
I've been told since I was a little kid that I was born a century too late. I grew up in a very old extended family and was always told I reminded them of their childhood. While I enjoy many modern conveniences, I can't find much in common with the modern world or modern people, who seem to me, can only relate to what they can purchase and are always striving to obtain the next "latest thing" that comes on the market.
I agree 110%. I’m 24 going on 25 in a couple weeks god willing. I’ve always been called an old soul and got along with my friends parents more than my actual friends. My hobbies now are work, my wife, pipe smoking, and growing food. Hopefully I’ll be building a shop soon to start working on a couple classic cars. However it is strange to see kids my age or even older and all they care about is drinking and partying. I honestly wish I grew up in the 50’s, the music was better, the vehicles were better, and it seemed the world had its head in a little straighter.
Having time for friends is hard when you have a family. I am 44 and made a friend this past year that's almost 70. We have similar interests, similar drinks, similar smokes. It's great spending time with him, when I can.

You're not alone Josh. I am a 37-year-old man from MI that feels like you do regarding having the thoughts and feelings of "our crowd" being few and far between. From my perspective, it's a blessing in the long run. I feel like for most of us that are pipe smoking enthusiasts or connoisseur, we like our quiet time and alone time. However, we also desire a community of like-minded people that do share some similar interests. I think with us having access to this kind of communication platforms we can connect more readily than not. I hope you can find more trustworthy and honest people to associate with. I as well am almost 40… will be in March… i don’t play video games…the wife and don’t have kids (not by choice in the beginning, the wife had a bad health scare) I like to have a drink every now and then. I don’t have an issue with weed… did it quite a bit when I was younger. I’m a drummer and have been in lots of “jam sessions” where it was pretty prevalent… I have seen it work wonders on people… and keep people from doing anything. It all just depends on the person. Yes Greg the escapism that most people enter into with alcohol and weed is a big problem. Alcohol makes people not care and weed just makes people stupid. Haven’t drank alcohol in 7 years. As for marijuana it never interested me. Very popular in my high school in the 1970’s I think medical marijuana is a rip off , I would not use that garbage if they paid me. Good chat.

Marijuana is a saviour for some people. I am almost seven years clean from heroin /opiates and alcohol. Alcohol is a garbage drug and is socially acceptable everywhere. I am California sober and I do use marijuana . But I am a type 3 smoker which means high CBD and very low THC. I occasionally do use type 1 that being high THC and type 2 being a 50/50 split. I do not smoke everyday all day. Mainly at night for pain and relaxation . Marijuana getS a bad wrap for being illegal still and is no different to me then smoking pipe tobacco. Hard drugs ruined me and alcohol destroyed the rest. Took years to get clean and it is the best decision of my life . The modern world Is sick. But this world is no different then what it was in the time of Noah and as king Solomon said there is nothing new under the sun. Technology is Pandora's box at this point. Sometimes the best get away from it all is putting the phone down and spend time with your wife or kids or the outdoors. People seem to doom scroll on life now which is wild to me.
weed is completely different than it was even just 20 years ago. It's like the difference between cocaine and crack, same active ingredient, but it's just concentrated and hits completely differently. I used to smoke weed sometimes back in the day and it was actually relaxing, you'd be high for a few hours and then it just goes away. I tried smoking with an old friend a few years ago, this was "good" weed from a dispensary as well, I thought I was going to freak out and die. It was a nightmare, if someone is at the point where they feel they enjoy that intensity of high, that answers a lot of questions as to why our society and everyone has lost their minds. That's what seemingly everyone uses now, that's scary.

I agree some people should not use it and it isn't a cure all for everything. Hemp or type 3 cannabis has almost no THC so again your comment doesn't make a lot of sense. Growing has gotten better and yes weed strains have become stronger but it isn't like crack vs cocaine. As a former addict crack is usually less potent and that is why the high wears off quicker so more frequent use. I know it isn't your field as I am a recovering addict but cannabis isn't the problem people parenting is. The lack of God in our culture is. We can't blame substances for our lack of taking care of our neighbors and our kids. I work for the airline that's headquartered in ATLANTA. And I never do trips through there because that overpopulated airport plus the slightest rain sprinkle equals a rolling delay. So a snowstorm must have been apocalyptic.

I will say that im of the opinion the Internet and advanced modern technology does more harm overall in society than good. The useful parts are minimal, but the rest of it is just nonsense. Because of all the damn battery cars, 4cyl engines, and everything else with 6 catalytic converters that produce water you can drink, and commercial diesel engines with DEF and crap on them. Whens the last time you were on the interstate and seen a Peterbilt blowing black smoke out the stacks on a pull? Exactly. It doesn't happen anymore. Never have touched weed and quit drinking many years ago. These weed laws aint about freedom. Their about control. It makes you weak minded and dependent. Alcohol at least in my case impacted my mental health. It always made me dwell on the negative experiences Id had any time I imbided it. Brought out negative memories of things I saw or had to do. It kept me down in those negative places. I didnt realize that until I quit doing it. The modern world has lost touch with morals. We need shame to come back into circulation. Take care.
