Best Sim was Red Storm Rising. That was a complex game to get your head around but was great when you understood everthing.
That Blue Max game is sweet looking! Very impressive for 1983.
Monty on the Run, Boulderdash, Green Beret, Wizball and Rambo
That was pretty much me after primary school every day in the 80's. Oh, and Mars Saga, that was an epic foray in to RPG's as a kid.
Great channel mate, sorry I only found you today. You came up in my side panel on an LGR video so here's to hopping your channel gains traction.
Much appreciate the kind words, thank you 😎👍
@@LFCGamerVlogs You're welcome dude. Psygnosis ftw :)
Nice list of action titles - I preferred adventures and puzzle games, so on my list you would find the Ultima series, Maniac Mansion, Castles of Dr. Creep, the "´Gold Box" D&D games, Bard's Tale, Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy and so on.
Just starting today's beer session and Big Bang Theory binge watch. Decided to watch this because it popped up in my suggested videos.
Now I have the Bubble Bobble theme stuck in my head for the rest of the day. lol
Brilliant list pal , absolutely spot on I loved power drift, kickstart and forgot how good turrican was
This video brought back so many great memories! My favourites from your list. Spy vs Spy, Kick Start II, Ghostbusters, Bubble Bobble, Green Beret, Ghost n Goblins, Raid over Moscow, Hyper sports & IK+.
My Favourites not on the list. Bruce Lee, Uridium, Paradroid (Briefly got to work with Steve Turner & Andrew Braybrook in 96 just as their company went bust), Bounty Bob Strikes Back, Thing on a Spring, Boulderdash, Beach Head and lastly Creatures 1 & 2 (John and Steve Rowlands old friends of mine).
Cool list, thanks for sharing! Lots of little gems in here.
I had forgotten all about it, but I played a lot of Blue Max back in the 80s. Nice to see it here. It was a simple game, but tons of fun. Same with kickstart. Also played a lot of Bruce Lee, Impossible Mission, 7 Cities of Gold and many others.
Brings back memories of my Commodore BBS days.
Some great forgotten memories here. Frankie...wow
No Pirates! or Infiltrator? I can't believe it!
I'm ashamed to admit I've never played those 2 games as I've heard many great things about each of them. From the gameplay that I have seen, they look like quite a lot of fun. Thank you for your feedback 🙂
Some real gems in there. Hardware scrolling and the sound capabilities are what made the C64 stand apart from all of its rivals. Loved those days. Wizball was awesome, completed it in two player mode with my younger brother playing as the catellite back in the day :o) Katakis was great too, best sidescrolling shooter on the C64, though Salamander was a great conversion as well.
Love the list will have to check out some of these if never heard of!
wow, sly spy , smash tv an midnight resistance are awesome !
some classics there for sure! 👍
Subbed! Looking forward to more cool videos.
Great video. Could you do a version of it where it's on a CRT?
No Babarbarian? first fatality in a fighting game also decent playability on the C64
Bubble Bobble port is probably my fave, I like Last Ninja also, but its not a replayable as bubble bobble, especially as a 2 player game.
Sam's Journey, The Sentinel, Armalyte, Project Firestart, Head Over Heels, Stunr Car Racer.
Bubble Bobble, Buggy Boy, Kikstart 2, Hyper Sports and IK+ were favs of mine. I was more sports games, so the Epyx games would be in for me and Emlyn Hughes Football. Still a great list to look through 👍
Could you do a MSX/MSX2 video? There are so many good games in that system...
I haven't had enough exposure with MSX games but what I have played has impressed me. I'll consider doing in the future so thank you 😎👍
I didn’t realise the C64 had such good sound
When in the right hands, such as Rob Hubbard and Martin Galway to name a few c64 musicians, the SID chip is simply a work of beauty.
It was amazing the Sound, graphics and game play they were able to squeeze out of that SID chip, graphics chip and less than 64k of memory.
Wow... Blue Max... I'd forgotten about that one. Lots of fun.
Blue Max is one of those games I never get tired of. Timeless classic!
I enjoyed this game as a kid. But I found it too hard. Not just one hit but also one life.
It's a tough game I'll give you that, but it's one I just keep returning to. Hope to complete it one day.
"Wow! The C64 had an excellent game library! Wow! And I'm impressed by the music. I see why the system was so popular now. They took special care for that important part of gameplay. 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽" (-James)
what about space pilot, gyruss, rescue on fractalus, pitstop 2, kung fu master, to be on top? Hey, many greetings from Brunswick in Germany 🙂
So glad to see Wizball at number 1 but no Paradroid, no Elite, no Sentinal, no Uridium. That is the magic of the C64. Everyone has a core of maybe 10 games that most people agree on and then there are 100s of others that can be put in the mix which can all have a good argument for being there. Hyper Sports is a great call which rarely makes these lists. I have listed my top 30 below
30 Rescue on Fractulus
29 Racing Destruction Set
28 Spy Vs Spy
27 Ghosts and Goblins
26 Commando
25 Hyper Sports
24 Boulderdash
23 Turrican
22 Bruce Lee
21 Beach Head
20 Buggy Boy
19 Drop Zone
18 Park Patrol
17 IK+
16 Up n Down
15 Ghostbusters
14 Nebulus
13 Katakis
12 The Sentinel
11 Bombuzal
10 Pirates
9 Uridium
8 New Zealand Story
7 Koronis Rift
6 Forbidden Forest
5 Turrican 2
4 Elite
3 Paradroid
2 Bubble Bobble
1 Wizball
I wasnt a fan of the Last Ninja games
Forbidden Forest is a great shout. Nebulus too.
I expected Paradroid, Uridium, Elite or Clumsy Colin on the list somewhere !
Paradroid was work of a genius. Elite was not a C64 original, although a great one as well.
Some superb choices, it's just that I haven't played those as much as other c64 titles.
I loved Up and Down
I’m curious , you were born in 1994 - what era did you play a C64?
I first discovered the c64 through emulation during the 2000's and loved what games it had to offer, so much so it really intrigued me to own the real thing. One of the best decisions I've made 😎

That’s cool man :)
As someone who did buy a Commodore 64 when it was first sold in the UK, I'd say a lot of this list are games that are arcade ports. Which for anyone with even a semblance of interest in the emulation scene, can find the original, much better versions to play.
Definitely the top 2 in the list are probably my own personal favourite 2 Commodore 64 games though.
Adding in - (trying to avoid ports & games that are better on other systems. I'm looking at you ZX Spectrum version of Skooldaze.)
Any and all Boulderdash games.
Same with any and all Summer/Winter/World games.
Paradroid as already mentioned in comments.
The Sentinel.
Space Taxi.
Flip & Flop. (The kangaroo/monkey isometric jumping one. there's actually a few C64 games with similar names.)
Action Biker anyone?
One Man and His Droid.
Bounty Bob Strikes Back.
Driller.
Graham Gooch Cricket. (WAAAYY too many hours put into this lol)
Gribbly's Day Out.
Highway Encounter.
R.I.S.K.
Thing on a Spring.
But here's the thing : " can find the original, much better versions to play." - that's almost entirely true. the 8-bit machines of the day weren't remotely able to pull of most the games so we end up with "dogleg" versions via the various conversions. Commando on C64 lacks the levels and graphical polish of the arcade version but the music is vastly superior . Then we have Bionic Commando - a game i think is overrated in the arcade but the Euro C64 version tweaks it enough to make it a different experience. Sort of miss those days of seeing how close the home versions would get.
Wow, only 3 of 30 games ive played and i played a lot C64 games back then
Cool top
Still got my C64, love it to bits. Sad to not see Armalyte in the list, it's got to be the best shooter on the system. Amazing these games still hold up well. Playability always did beat pretty graphics.
I haven't played Armalyte personally, but from what gameplay I've seen it looks like a solid shooter. I'll gladly give it a shot when I can. Thanks for the comment 🙂
@@LFCGamerVlogs Cybernoid was also impressive, with cracking music. Bit too hard for me though
@@cressie176 Couldn't agree more on Cybernoid, stunning but just a bit too challenging.
Damn, Smash TV in some ways looks better than the arcade version!
No Giana Sisters? Come on, dude.
Great Giana Sisters is a great platformer, but it was the Amiga version that I played. Wouldn't mind giving the c64 version a go at some point.
A lot of these games would make great mobile phone games.
No one ever seems to remember the Commando clone called Arnie.
I had completely forgotten about Arnie and I'm glad you mentioned it. Who cares if it's a Commando clone, it's a ton of fun!
@@LFCGamerVlogs Both games coded by Chris Butler, as are three other games in this list: Turbo Charge, Ghosts 'n' Goblins & Power Drift.
Can't believe no elite or the eidolon
Elite is very good on the c64, there's no doubt about it, but I prefer the BBC Micro version due to it running a bit more smoother. Haven't played The Eidolon myself though I wouldn't mind giving it a go. Much appreciate the comment mate 😎👍
@@LFCGamerVlogs agree about elite on BBC. My mate had that and I was always a bit jealous of the frame rate. He had the cassette version though and didn't have some of the ships, ferdelance comes to mind. He also didn't have cuddly little trumbles or missions like I had on the c64. I sunk weeks of summer holidays into that game.
@@LFCGamerVlogs I only recently STOPPED playing Elite across numerous releases and platforms, after the @bortion known as Odyssey. I had 1,700 hours in on the PC, and tens of thousands probably in the last 4 decades since release.
I would have Mercenary & Barbarian in my top 30
Brilliant choices especially Barbarian. In hindsight I regret not including that game as it's a personal favourite of mine. Thanks for feedback 😎👍
I LOVE C64 ❤️😎👍❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
64k of ram amazing . Love my c64 ..so much ram wasted today
Hey Scott ! Sup you Scottish mate ? Is it rainy these days in Dundee, Glascow, Edinburgh, Aberdeen ?
WASTELAND
Dizzy!
On the spectrum 128!
@@MarkGodfrey73 wot?
@@MC-ly4pm that's not a video of it running on the C64
👍👍👍👍👍👍
Good list! Paradroid, Pitfall II, Ultima IV, Bards Tale II, Elite, Forbidden Forest, Pirates and Leaderboard would have made mine, too. Commando probably had the best OST though: ua-cam.com/video/jbQR7jZ1iDM/v-deo.html
