System compatibility and other issues maybe. Actually, below 2016 versions work very smoothly in an average (4gb ram) laptops. I too used 2019a, suffered a huge lag and later went back to 2014a. There are much updates in farther versions but, they are only for advanced applications.

i did exactly as you did but no animation happen
fixed it, i had to go to mechanism configuration and change [0 0 -9.80665] to [0 -9.80665 0] cuz of gravity pulls in Y axis
