I have got rid of bindweed infestations in two gardens and 8 have an new allotment now covered. I pulled out the green stuff and it was ok to compost 8n a plastic bin with no light. When it came through again inthe ground 8 used glysophate mixed with food colouring and painted the new shoots with a small paintbrush when ever they appear and just keep at it for a season and beyond until it cant sustain itself. If the conditions are right and it is unchecked it goes rampant. It is the persistance that gets rid of it and if your neighbour has it then you can never really get rid if it likes your garden.

The food colouring is a good trick. Yes, its a horrible weed. I would never compost it though - just a risk. Well done for getting rid of it.

Digging is a temporary solution the roots can go down 10 feet or more never dig with a spade use a fork less chance of cutting the roots I think weedkiller then forking out then weedkiller when it reappears, when it gets into something like raspberries you can hold it back for a few years then you have to resort to digging them out. You should spray your poly tunnel otherwise it will spread. This year seems to be very bad for it, You see a lot of rubbish on youtube from people who think they can get rid of it without weedkillers it can't be done, good luck with your battle

@@petercastell4450 yes, every little piece of root just multiplies. I'm treating the inside of the polytunnels. Cut all the top growth off then using a systematic weedkiller on the fresh growth. Repeat as necessary. The bed I cleared after three years weeding is clear still. I just keep vigilant.
