What up Tim, my wife and I are really considering to move to Ghana. Can you suggest good communities to live in and what would be a good residual income to live really well.
I've experienced everything you said.. its real talk. I'm going to look you up when i return soon. It'll be nice to know someone you don't have to play mental poker with everyday.
Tim, the only negative thing that I don’t like about us is our habits when it comes to money. Africans go over the top when it comes to our love of money.
I'm AA and have been searching to move to a place in Africa Ghana is definitely near the top of the list. Love seeing my beautiful especially my lovely sisters make the Xodus back the Motherland. I want a better life and a family of my own I believe maybe this is the place where it can happen.
Yeah, you are absolutely right those power outages and open sewages is a *huge* problem in some of these countries in Africa smh they seriously need to fix that. I really hope as time goes by ghana and Africa will make progress
I heard about those open sewers, people openly shyting, trash on beaches, power outages but I have also seen some very beautiful places and homes that are not affected by this things because they are equipped with solar panels and they have bore holes.
#1 issue: I know when I was there, my husband (Togolese) bargain with a guy who wanted to overcharge me. I'm from the East coast of the United States, and I know how to hold on to my money. #4 issue: can you save/ buy solar panels for your house and go off the grid. Also, is it good to purchase a water tower for your house and buy water purifiers. Yes, I know about the open sewage. Gots to be careful not to step in one when crossing the street.
Don't be offended to be called "obroni". It actually refers to people from overseas. It's also used on Ghanaians living overseas. Overseas in the Twi language is "aborokyire", hence anybody from "aborokyire" is an "Obroni". There are a lot of people who don't even know the meaning of it (they have used it on the white man so much that it has become word meaning "white person") and some people (especially those in the villages, some have never left their villages or even gone to other regions in Ghana) don't know that there are black people in the white man's countries, especially black Americans/Caribbean. "Obroni" is also used between couples and is somewhat intimate, "Mɛ obrini eee"... not sure how to translate it but the closest I can get is "sweetie". I believe you are very good at changing your accent at times, use it more, make it thick accent and blend in a lot. Don't trust everyone quickly, though there are lots of good people who will help you and make you their family. As some Ghanaians like to ask a question to a question, also ask. Always ask questions. Show them that you can't be fooled. Be "straightforward" yet humble and kind. ALWAYS use that thick accent. ALWAYS. Yahuah bless you and keep you.

And I really feel sorry for you and I can imagine the frustration, you are going through, not being able to take your son to a nice fresh and clean road walk? you need to sell your house and get out of that environment? Bcz I want you to enjoy your stay in Ghana and full field your dreams? 😊 bcz there are many positive great sides of Ghana, and I can show you? Bcz I’m a Ghanaian too and wouldn’t put you through any of those bad experiences so believe me? there are a lots of good Ghanaians too that you haven’t met yet? 😊 But you know something sweetheart? I think God has a plan for you, with those experiences, ok? and I will tell you when the time is right? So clean your tears , relax and have faith ok? Even we Ghanaians living outside returning home feel this same shit . The government does this same shit,Chinese in Ghana have privileges more than the nationals Every major contractors were from foreign countries. The government selling a 3 bedroom home for Cedis 300,000 whereas the middle make Cedis 500 per month. The previous USA ambassador to Ghana said before leaving Ghana that Ghana was the most expensive nation he’s ever visited.
You just talked me out of it. Racism in America is bad, but I still live in Maryland. I'm not about to walk into open sewage. I remember being in Trinidad seeing oil from the street draining into the beach sand all the way into the beach water I was just in, it made me feel sick. I hate pollution. Also, gets some Powerwall batteries and solar panels. It's 2020, you don't need a grid. It's not cheap though, but you'll always have power and maybe you can sell some back if they have that over there?
Pollution, racism, corruption & Climate Change are global problems - go inland in Ghana, but read up on a non-collective septic system, & make SURE you aren't in bedrock - a year of hard labor with a hammer-drill is NOT fun (but I did it). "Off the grid" is very possible, but takes planning & funds; private health insurance, solar panels, water recovery system, generator, & ONLY hire local tradesmen. A rammed earth house sounds weird, but can be big, last for centuries, and is CHEAP to build.
One thing that’s negative about us Africans and it’s so true and that’s our obsession with money but other than that we are a pleasant and peaceful family.
4 months of Texas on-the-job training in carpentry & plumbing will resolve MANY woes - did my own hi-tech septic system in France with a hammer-drill & a year of sweat. If I'm South Asian but "fair", American but "white", or East Asian, & coming to Ghana to stay, build a rammed earth house in the country; invest & contribute to the expansion of Accra as THE fine Arts capitol of West Africa, how will that play out?
Thank you for this video Mr. Swain it is very informative so that people who would like to visit or move are prepared. I have a question please about infrastructure and blackouts. Is this also an issue for tourists? I have been watching travel vlogs of people coming to Accra to party. They stay at very modern hotels or apartments with swimming pools and laundry facilities in their suites...they go to bars shopping nightlife etc. Are those tourists also experiencing no water or electricity at times?
Everything depends on where you stay, but typically these are structural issues experienced by various people in the country regardless of citizenship or visitation status. The degree to which it happens depends on the location and their power supply. Hope that helps.
You are hilarious. I’ve traveled extensively, and one thing is true. I’m spoiled. Not bougie. But definitely accustomed to American standards. With that, I know the continent is going to be an adjustment. For real for real. Thanks for the insight, and I hope you’re adjusting. #OrderingAContainter🤣 🥰🌍
Brother all what you said is true and same applies to even Ghanaians who lives in the West. I think the problem is from the western media which portrays the West as very rich and all the people there are rich.
Yes they are right that if they thinks that you are rich is because the western television shows that Africa is poor and western countries are rich.so they are right not their fault.
A lot of us Ghanaians avoid making friends with African Americans and yts in ghana because we realise they think we want something from them. Its mostly those who dont have much and are looking for opportunity, who may befriend you for something same as people down on their luck everywhere. But since you tend to bunch us all together, we keep our distance and keep our relationships with you at the most basic then they turn around and say we're unfriendly
All that being said, is it worth leaving America? I suppose there is an emphasis on "developing" country. Shopping without the required funds anywhere let's face it would give the same answer lots of places. Managers are in restaurants for a reason.
Mr saiwn sorry oooo but little by little you'll get over them trust me and when you start speaking twice it helps a lot...but to be serious with your money just tell them I'm you are managing and that you work hard to get ...also I think before going out get someone with you a Ghanaian friend or Ghanaian work mate who understand his people ...trust me I know a lot of people who move here and refuse to step out and now they take koko on the street ...as for friendship you have to make it clear from day one that if they want to be friends because of what they can get then it won't happen so you do the asking tell them what you need salt pepper little little things and you'll understand the people you are dealing with also Ghana is not all about Accra life really nice especially here in western region relationship here with people is nice so you can consider
My negatives in Africa that I dislike 1. When we sell out against our people. 2. When we tell lies. 3. Disrespecting our mama land and the thinking living in the west is much better. 4. When you land in Accra in particular checking your passport as it is new thing. and 5. When the power goes off. Plus we are so obsessed with religion and money.
They do that in JA too. If they see u from the states they think u have money. Oh wow this is sad the roads are this bad. Its show how much the government care. The money going in their pockets thats what...these places are so corrupt. This is why they beg their family to send stuff from here. Ur Ghanaian accent is so on point tho lol

Hilarious! Thanks for sharing.
That dance had me dead 😂! It's so true though my head usually hurts after long car rides in Ghana.
Brother all what you said is true and same applies to even Ghanaians who lives in the West. I think the problem is from the western media which portrays the West as very rich and all the people there are rich.
😂😂😂😂😂 roads so bass it's like your jamming to music!
This is all true! 😂😂😂
Lmbo the car thing and road troubles
Charley,I really enjoy watching ur channel.
I'm taking this all in due to the fact that I just met someone that lives in Ghana.
Yes they are right that if they thinks that you are rich is because the western television shows that Africa is poor and western countries are rich.so they are right not their fault.
Hahahah the jammin' and milly rockin got me LOL!! Good move my brother!
Couldn’t stop laughing when you started citing the structural issues. My ribs 😂😂😂
It's from what they see on TV.
My negatives in Africa that I dislike
1. When we sell out against our people.
2. When we tell lies.
3. Disrespecting our mama land and the thinking living in the west is much better.
4. When you land in Accra in particular checking your passport as it is new thing.
and
5. When the power goes off.
Plus we are so obsessed with religion and money.
You were so funny talking about the roads I laughed so hard
Bro I feel you about all the dislikes.
Its the mentality ,you need to educate them
Bro thanks for your honest video; you had me laughing all day from the scenes from 5:10-5:33 👌😂😂😂
They do that in JA too. If they see u from the states they think u have money. Oh wow this is sad the roads are this bad. Its show how much the government care. The money going in their pockets thats what...these places are so corrupt. This is why they beg their family to send stuff from here. Ur Ghanaian accent is so on point tho lol
Only in Ghana. 1 person makes the bed another person makes and sells the mattress
You are so so funny you making me laughing so hard. And you look like Ghana
