Dude, Ansbach is also still a murderer and a downright sociopath. Pretty sure one of his weapon descriptions state that he tore people apart with his bare hands and he says that the fight with Leda reinvograted his "spirit of war". I love Ansbach as much as the next guy, but the whole point of ER is that no one is clean.

i was making my way around the storeroom killing all the noob shadows and goblins pretty absentmindedly. suddenly (and accidentally) attacked Ansbach because he sort of just blended into the environment and when i heard someone talking i was like "oh ****" and immediately turned around and ran away towards the site of grace, desperate to lose aggro. never have i teleported to the church of vows faster than that day. didn't even say hello to turtle pope, just instant absolution.
@@zeppelincraft1443 not true. if you actually try out the fight and don't go the comet azur route, which is for noobs anyway, there are several things you can do to kill mohg without succumbing to his bloodflame spear move. A: you can chug flasks when he does it. B: you can use mohg's shackle to stun him (thus interrupting his ritual) C: use the purifying crystal tear that shields you from the incantation (all 3 ticks) entirely. E: a combination of all the above which turns the fight into a joke, moreso than comet azur, but at least you actually get to see the boss fight.
Miquella is the literal "Golden Child" that can do no wrong. Honor Roll, Class Prez, Track Star kid. Mohg was the ugly older brother that listened to The Cure and hung out in their bedroom all day long. Miquella manipulated Mohg to get into the sketchy house party thrown by Mohg's goth friends so he could score drugs. Its all so rotten. Poor Mohg :(
It's less like Miquella is a golden child and moreso like he's the youngest sibling (along with Malenia) and so his actions tend to be diminished in scope or outright ignored; ESPECIALLY if the older sibling(s) has/have already drawn the ire of the parents.
Ansbach wanting to get as far away from miquella reminds me of someone commenting on how radahan is located as far away from the haligtree as you can get on the map. Maybe radahan encountered miquella's charms and wanted nothing to do with it.
Radahn also held the stars in place effectively halting fate as we learn through Ranni’s quest. I think it’s likely Radahn wanted nothing to do with Miquella’s plan and actively tried to foil his plans

@@hoked2194 Yes, but we don't know anything about how, why, when Sellia was attacked. We only know that it's related to the stars and that Radahn beat them. I mean, there are only 2 places which have been attacked by stars and these are Sellia, defended by Radahn, and the skyless Eternal City which was destroyed, which we know why, when and how it was attacked (Astel was sent to destroy it bc of the Lord of the Night stuff). Instead of Radahn fighting back against the stars, I'm saying that Radahn seeked them out to beat them, he was the one triggering the conflict. After all, there are many reasons why Radahn would beat them.
Ansbach being a part of Mohg's group makes me think that it didn't always have the murder hobo vibe it does now. He seems too well put together compared to other members like Varre (who radiates crazy person energy), but maybe Ansbach is just better at hiding his murderous tendencies, who knows. Either way he's still my favourite NPC of the DLC, and he's probably in my top 10 Souls NPCs of all time now.
Someone mentioned on a ptevious video that varre may have joined after miquella enchanted mohg, hence his bizarre persona, and i shouldve mentioned it because it was such a great insight but i forgot
I heard that theory too. It makes you wonder just what Miquella's enchantments are capable of. It also makes me wonder if Miquella meant for Mohg to go kinda crazy, because if that's true it makes Miquella look even worse than he already does. It would be ironic if Mohg truly created a refuge for the downtrodden and then Miquella came in and ruined it despite advocating for that himself.
The new outer god talisman has a depiction of an erupting volcano but within the eruption is the shape of a woman. Right as I grabbed the talisman in game, I thought of the formless mother. Because the creatures that "guard" or inhabit the ruins where said talisman is found are worshipping the formless mother. They do the exact same thrusting spear move into the sky that Mohg does to pierce the mother. It made me also think about how the outer gods are probably akin to those Japanese spirits that people have brought up before.
Yeah the outer gods seem more like nature spirits and the erdtree is like a monotheistic analogy that tried to incorporate bits of the nature gods while erasing them from history

It says "a clan, who lost everything in the great fires" that could be any of the different groups that were burned by Messmer. They also don't look into a deity and see something twisted. It says "the peered into their ancestors corpse, normally an act of sanctity and saw in its shadow a twisted deity" It says nothing about the formless mother either. The talisman looks like a volcano erupting though and is found in the prospect town inhabited by the creatures who are doing the same ritual spear thrusting as mohg does. It's just my theory on why it's placed there and why the talisman looks like it does. This theory is actually stemming from a bigger theory that another channel put forth. That Lyndell was once a massive volcano. It's a very long theory so I won't go more into it but that is why when I saw that the Outer God heirloom had a volcano deity on it and was near creatures who worship the formless mother, I was very intrigued and wanted to mention my findings. I think next time you want to try and get a gotcha "did you read the description?" You should, in fact look up and actually read the description for yourself. I've been reading every item description as I pick up the items so far, so I definitely would have remembered if it said anything about the "hornsent" specifically.
I think what makes Ansbach such a compelling and memorable character too is not only the fact that the supposed crazed Lord of Bloods most devout follower is a well mannered old man who seeks to understand what’s going on first rather than simply jump to violence and honestly exudes honor like no other npc in my eyes. We kill his lord and he is so pragmatic about it all and holds literally no ill will towards us, calling the entire thing basically a fair duel and outcome. I think had Miquella never charmed Mogh then Ansbach would’ve been his personal advisor, and in my humble opinion probably the greatest advisor to any of the Demi gods
Ansbach is a true sun bro - someone solaire would be proud of. Man is literally scared to wits ends by miquella after he had his way with him. And yet despite that he’s willing to help you out or die trying even after miquella asends to godhood while using mogh/radahn as a pupated meatsheild. After I beat miquella, I literally scoured the entire world to try and find ansbach … only to find him slumped up against the wall of the arena. I almost genuinely cried.
Ansbach straight up walking to a demigod thinking he can put him down only to go full circle at the end with the same confidece and loyalty. Him calling miquela a monster is correct to because miquella discarded his love in the form of saint trina so people will have to love him but cant love anyone himself plus thinking its cool making a meat puppet of his brothers enchanted body to trap the soul of radahn in it on top of telling Malenia to win by any means necessary maybe. Im guessing the vow miquella made for radahn the response he got was "no dude" which is why he needed too die
i think the vow was something like Radahn telling Miquella to best him in a duel or give him a good fight and he'll accept being his lord. However Miquella is teisting those words. I think Miquella just kinda played everyone honestly

Maybe Radahn challenged Miquella something and thought there would be no way that vow would be fulfilled because it was too difficult/almost impossible. Then Miquella did manage to do that and the rest is history. I just hate that so many Radahn fanboys keep spreading the idea Radahn never promised anything. We might not know the details of their promise, but Radahn wouldn’t be the kind to backtrack and flip flop on his words. We never know which challenge or which request Radahn made Miquella to perform, maybe Malenia marching to Caelid was one part of that, but not all. Maybe there was more content to the vow and it’s not just defeating Radahn in battle.
@@SuperBurdens I think it's even simpler, in their youths Miquella approached Radahn to become his consort and there was some kind of agreement that if Miquella becomes God he'd serve him. But as they grew up and experienced more of the world I think Radahn began to see Miquella for what he truly is, a monster, the most fearsome and terrible of the Empyreans, and knew him ascending would be a bad thing. I think it's likely Miquella tried to call in the deal and Radahn backed out, so he sent Malenia to kill him, if he can't get Radahn to serve him in life then he'll force him to serve in death.

Miquella guided the Albinaurics all the way through. From the moment Miquella enchanted Mohg, Mohg was essentially their “grace” guiding them. They weren’t abandoned at the Liturgical town because not far from there is the portal (they more than likely used) to get to Mohgwyn Palace. They were there waiting on the line as much as Mohg was. Waiting for any sign from Miquella to further journey to a land they can be all accepted in. Essentially all sacrifices

I think Miquella would have had to have given up on the Halig tree before sending Miquella to deal with Radahn. The entire point of Malenia killing Radahn was to send his soul onward to the Realm of Shadow to revive him. So he would have had to already had the plan to use Mohg in motion, no?

I’m honestly not sure if the formalist mother truly is evil, since we never really see it do anything harmful to those that uses its gifts, since the pureblood knights and Mohg doesn’t seem to have any negatively effects by the influence of the the Outer god only the lower ranking members of the dynasty has shown aspects of blood lust by its influence.🤔🐱
Shadow of the Erdtree has done a let of legwork in persuading me that, while the Formless Mother and its effects are disgusting... I don't think it's malevolent? It seems to come to the oppressed and downtrodden to empower them, and I think that is legitimate. Rather than exploiting vulnerable people who have no choice but accept, I think the FM reaching out to these groups is actually benevolent? Considering how much Miyazaki enjoys subverting expectations of morality in his work, it would certainly fit his modus operandi.
She might not be inherently evil but she seems naturally antithetical to life as we know it and/or as any normal human/animal would be able to flourish in.
Imo none of the outer gods are straight up evil, they're just aspects of nature come off as more neutral. They want to establish a new way of life that we deem evil because it opposes our way of life.
iirc Ansbach does say he is a Tarnished. I do find it curious the 2 NPCs that can become our allies to face the Miquella and the rest of the band are both Tarnished (i don't think it is ever stated Leda, Moore and Dane are, but i might have missed something).
That does seem oddly coincidental. We don't know much about Moore, Leda, and Dane...but Freyja was a redmane honor guard to Radahn. Hornsent is obviously some bitter loser who's mad Marika and Messmer got revenge for that Shaman/Jar fiasco. It would make sense for Ansbach to be a tarnished since most of Mohg's knights were bloody fingers and the bloody fingers were all tarnished.
Maybe it was a mercy. Of a sort. Mohg was unjustly treated by Golden Order Society, his own family, and his own Mother. And yeah, having his soul discarded by Miquella sure sounds foul. Yet, Mohg was already in thrall to the Formless Mother, and he was running around with the likes of the Blood Fingers, long before Miquella captured his heart. Who can say what sort of condition his soul was in? All of this is to say that while Mohg was abused, and he was used only for his body, he was never a Saint. He was going to come to a foul end, one way or another. Even Ansbach knows this, despite himself.
Reminder that Bloody Fingers willingly serve him, he didint force them to join him, Achbach doesent have blood eyes wich means Mohg started his Blood injection thing and the kidnaping of war surgeons after Miquella had charmed mohg. So basicly what the dynasty was before Miquella... was just a optional to join group.
Melania delivered Miquella's message to Radahn, the Young Lion set's revelation refers to her unheard words we see in their battle cutscene. There was no telepathy.

@@TheHonoredMadman I can't think of any connective tissue between Miquella's Haligtree efforts and his plans as revealed in the DLC, it's a little frustrating his initial narrative arc has been swept aside instead of being married to his DLC actions.
People have speculated that Miquella's curse wasn't just eternal youth, but also that of forever unrealized potential. He was stuck with both the mind and the body of a child, with all his efforts doomed to be abandoned whenever he hit some sort of snag. After all, the Haligtree wasn't the only plan he'd had in the base game, the mess with Castle Sol also was him.
so just putting everything together, timeline probably goes: 1: Miquella and Radahn make a transactional vow to be consorts; "Once we [finish warring with you in Caelid], promise you'll be my consort." (going by freyja's dialogue about the vow) (Radahn likely makes the promise just after the memory ends, since his boss title is literally "promised consort") 2: Malenia wars against Radahn, attempting to give him an honorable sendoff (freyja dialogue) 3: The scarlet aeonia blooms but doesn't fully kill Radahn, despite Malenia's intention (going by the young lion set, she intended for the bloom to deliver radahn to his consort, aka kill his body). 4: Finlay carries Malenia back to the haligtree all alone, journeying across the entire lands between. 5: Miquella journeys to the swamp of Aeonia. We dont know his intention in doing this beyond just looking for survivors like Freyja, maybe he was looking for Malenia, unaware of the Finlay situation. However, Freyja is aware of the Radahn festival started by Jerren, which means this is likely when Miquella is made aware of it as well. (hence why he doesn't kill Radahn himself) 6: Miquella comes back to the haligtree, and enters the cocoon to get rid of his child form. 7: Mohg shows up to kidnap Miquella (otherwise there's no explanation for him being there as far as we know), but is bewitched by Miquella, who then voluntarily leaves for the dynasty grounds with Mohg. (this would fit as the last time Malenia sees Miquella and begins awaiting "his return," hence her boss dialogue, so we can assume Finlay has finished the trip by now) 8: Back at the dynasty grounds, Ansbach challenges Miquella to a duel after seeing Mohg is bewitched, but fails. 9: Miquella departs to the shadow realm, fully intending for the tarnished to kill Radahn and Mohg. He starts at the gravesite plains (maybe teleporting from some of Mohg's blood to some of the Bloodfiends blood? would neatly fit with our spawn point just beneath the largest bloodfiend settlement in the realm) 10: Miquella first begins tearing apart his body at the three-path road just nearby (going by the etched words on his cross here) 11: events of the player character's journey, etc etc This is like the only timeline i could think of that manages to line up with all the information we're given. Also side-note but Mohg still doesn't look too good in this timeline lmao

One interesting thing about Ansbach is if you remove his helmet, he has no Blood eyes. Hinting that perhaps the Injection of Mohgs blood to his followers came to be after Miquella was stolen aka when Mohg was charmed.
What I find curious is the link between flies, pots, and the Formless Mother. We use fly mold to make four different hefty pots, and the Ailing Village is full of fly-men (upon whom fly mold grows), and the only hornsent residing in the Ailing Village uses Swarm of Flies against us when we find him near the Ailing Talisman. Clearly the Formless Mother uses bloodflies as a medium, but how does she relate to the fly-men? They spit poison, not blood. It seems a bit vague to me. Is the ailing disease a manifestation of all plagues and status ailments since the Ailing Talisman reduces the effectiveness of those recently encountered? If so, is the Formless Mother the source for all ailments, including the Scarlet Rot and Poison and such? I do not think that is true, but it is all a bit murky to me.

The like of dogs could also be because of how each emperion gets a shadow (the seemingly fate bound wolf men) as well as Ratagon's wolves. Which would make alot of sense because its him chasing the trappings of nobility like he is for where he's hiding currently being this grand temple in only mild disrepair (much like 1/2 of the royal capital that hasn't sunk into the lake)

Varré happens to show up right where the tarnished spawns into the world with fresh blood on his hands mere feet away from where we find the dead woman who was supposed to be our maiden, and then has the gall to call us maidenless. and how, pray, did you know that, Varré?.... its all pretty cut and dry. he clearly murdered our maiden to cut us off from the guidance of grace so he could more easily recruit us, but he didn't take Melina into account, namely because he is likely unaware of her existence seeing as she is a spirit.

I’m probably missing some information cuz I haven’t combed through all the new lore, but it’s been a running theory of mine that Miquella may have posed as the Formless Mother in Mohg’s dreams using his powers as St Trina and either bewitched Mohg that way or, under the guidance Miquella pretending to be the Formless Mother, Mohg becomes bewitched the moment he’s in proximity of Miquella

I feel like now I’m gonna question the when of these events. When did Miquella charm Mohg, how much was Mohg acting on his own influence. Was it from the beginning, like telepathy and he never built everything. Personally, I imagine it similar to Anasbach- his enchantment was his own fault. He tried to take Miquella for his dynasty and then it got turned on him. I don’t take Miquella’s charm as mind control, you’re still you, it works differently on everyone and more acts as a moral compass. You’re still you, you just act more in compassion. But that’s just my thoughts
I couldn't help but notice all the empyreans are cruel and wicked to Godfrey's kids. Ranni kills Godwyn for no damn reason, Miquella bodysnatched and reverse groomed Mohg. Morgott got treated like trash even though he was holding down Leyndell for mom. The omen twins were forced to live in the damn sewers while we got monsters like Rykard, Miquella, and Ranni running lose ruining the Lands Between for selfish reasons. This DLC just proved what I already knew...that all of Godfrey's kids were the best demigods and they were done dirty just like their dad was. Ansbach, in addition to being the best character in the DLC, was a refreshing twist and I was so happy to see the "good" npc wasn't just some fair maiden but a blood knight. He implies Mohg was enchanted for a while, and I can't help but think a lot of the bloody finger murder cult nonsense was done on Miquella's behalf to open the Land of Shadows. Meanwhile you have Lady Knight Leda who simps harder for Miquella than a Taylor Swift fan. She's a murderer and a deranged zealot who has the audacity to refer to Miquella as "the kind" after what he did to Mohg, Radahn, and presumably Malenia as well.
Pretty happy with the DLC. I love the atmosphere and world design. I've noticed that they have really upped their game on hiding things just out of site. Like if you look 20 more degrees to the right you'll see it but if you keep walking forward a pickup, leaver or door is sometimes easy to miss. I also find that the landscape can be difficult to remember sometimes so I will forget about things I had found before, only to rediscover them again. The base game had that effect for me but that was just due to raw size. The dlc does it more with level design. I remember often getting way lost but I kept charging forward cause I was like, I know there is more to discover and the only way to discover it is by going deeper in. Which gets to my main complaint. Too many sites of grace. The level design would sometimes have 3 right next to each other and it was like, you could have just put an elevator, door or ladder to kick down to link these areas with one site of grace. I also felt that Godfrey was due at least some back story and that Godwyn was also too absent from the story for my tastes. I suppose Radagon as well but he was so prominent in the base game that I'm fine with them leaving him out of the back story. The rot god and the formless mother also had some moments but I felt they could have had more. Kinda surprised there wasn't a blue dancer mausoleum to match the red dancer one.
The blue dancer/blind swordsman looked like he was being set up as a DLC boss, Godwyn got three knights and one of them already being dead. At least there's now a new mystery over just what his "surrogate corpse" is, the specific visage of death that refers to also has a third eye.
So glad we got the chance to fight alongside him! I find the fact that Ansbach finds Miquella so frightening because of how he can affect the minds of others and NOT his physical prowess so compelling ❤
Too be fair on Marika's crusade, what the hornsent did to the people in Marika's village within hinterland was just as atrocious as what she did to the hornsent afterwards
I just wanna know how Marika went from a person from a small Shaman village to someone who has an entire army raised and how did she even end up in a spot where she could “betray” the hornsent
Its intriguing that Miquella can still charm people even if hes in an unresponsive state like with Mohg you'd think he'd have to be responsive to charm people so this begs to question who's body is in the cocoon since miquella was apparently discarding his body bit by bit in the Shadow Realm
The Oblivion music just hits so right. As a day 1 believer in the Mohgwyn Dynasty, I feel vindicated that Mohg was who I thought I was. Well, I don't want to say this but Mohg oneshot combos you with his ritual if you don't have the spell so I say it's fair game in the eyes of Ansbach.
@@zeppelincraft1443 not true. if you actually try out the fight and don't go the comet azur route, which is for noobs anyway, there are several things you can do to kill mohg without succumbing to his bloodflame spear move.
A: you can chug flasks when he does it.
B: you can use mohg's shackle to stun him (thus interrupting his ritual)
C: use the purifying crystal tear that shields you from the incantation (all 3 ticks) entirely.
E: a combination of all the above which turns the fight into a joke, moreso than comet azur, but at least you actually get to see the boss fight.
Ansbach was such a chad. He single handedly did half of Radahn's health bar for me before falling. I miss that old bastard.

Miquella is the literal "Golden Child" that can do no wrong. Honor Roll, Class Prez, Track Star kid. Mohg was the ugly older brother that listened to The Cure and hung out in their bedroom all day long. Miquella manipulated Mohg to get into the sketchy house party thrown by Mohg's goth friends so he could score drugs. Its all so rotten. Poor Mohg :(

Radahn also held the stars in place effectively halting fate as we learn through Ranni’s quest. I think it’s likely Radahn wanted nothing to do with Miquella’s plan and actively tried to foil his plans

I mean, there are only 2 places which have been attacked by stars and these are Sellia, defended by Radahn, and the skyless Eternal City which was destroyed, which we know why, when and how it was attacked (Astel was sent to destroy it bc of the Lord of the Night stuff).
Instead of Radahn fighting back against the stars, I'm saying that Radahn seeked them out to beat them, he was the one triggering the conflict. After all, there are many reasons why Radahn would beat them.

Ansbach being a part of Mohg's group makes me think that it didn't always have the murder hobo vibe it does now. He seems too well put together compared to other members like Varre (who radiates crazy person energy), but maybe Ansbach is just better at hiding his murderous tendencies, who knows. Either way he's still my favourite NPC of the DLC, and he's probably in my top 10 Souls NPCs of all time now.
Someone mentioned on a ptevious video that varre may have joined after miquella enchanted mohg, hence his bizarre persona, and i shouldve mentioned it because it was such a great insight but i forgot

The new outer god talisman has a depiction of an erupting volcano but within the eruption is the shape of a woman. Right as I grabbed the talisman in game, I thought of the formless mother. Because the creatures that "guard" or inhabit the ruins where said talisman is found are worshipping the formless mother. They do the exact same thrusting spear move into the sky that Mohg does to pierce the mother.
It made me also think about how the outer gods are probably akin to those Japanese spirits that people have brought up before.
Yeah the outer gods seem more like nature spirits and the erdtree is like a monotheistic analogy that tried to incorporate bits of the nature gods while erasing them from history

It says "a clan, who lost everything in the great fires" that could be any of the different groups that were burned by Messmer. They also don't look into a deity and see something twisted. It says "the peered into their ancestors corpse, normally an act of sanctity and saw in its shadow a twisted deity"
It says nothing about the formless mother either.
The talisman looks like a volcano erupting though and is found in the prospect town inhabited by the creatures who are doing the same ritual spear thrusting as mohg does. It's just my theory on why it's placed there and why the talisman looks like it does.
This theory is actually stemming from a bigger theory that another channel put forth. That Lyndell was once a massive volcano. It's a very long theory so I won't go more into it but that is why when I saw that the Outer God heirloom had a volcano deity on it and was near creatures who worship the formless mother, I was very intrigued and wanted to mention my findings.
I think next time you want to try and get a gotcha "did you read the description?" You should, in fact look up and actually read the description for yourself. I've been reading every item description as I pick up the items so far, so I definitely would have remembered if it said anything about the "hornsent" specifically.
I think what makes Ansbach such a compelling and memorable character too is not only the fact that the supposed crazed Lord of Bloods most devout follower is a well mannered old man who seeks to understand what’s going on first rather than simply jump to violence and honestly exudes honor like no other npc in my eyes.
We kill his lord and he is so pragmatic about it all and holds literally no ill will towards us, calling the entire thing basically a fair duel and outcome.
I think had Miquella never charmed Mogh then Ansbach would’ve been his personal advisor, and in my humble opinion probably the greatest advisor to any of the Demi gods

Man is literally scared to wits ends by miquella after he had his way with him. And yet despite that he’s willing to help you out or die trying even after miquella asends to godhood while using mogh/radahn as a pupated meatsheild.
After I beat miquella, I literally scoured the entire world to try and find ansbach … only to find him slumped up against the wall of the arena. I almost genuinely cried.
Ansbach straight up walking to a demigod thinking he can put him down only to go full circle at the end with the same confidece and loyalty. Him calling miquela a monster is correct to because miquella discarded his love in the form of saint trina so people will have to love him but cant love anyone himself plus thinking its cool making a meat puppet of his brothers enchanted body to trap the soul of radahn in it on top of telling Malenia to win by any means necessary maybe. Im guessing the vow miquella made for radahn the response he got was "no dude" which is why he needed too die
i think the vow was something like Radahn telling Miquella to best him in a duel or give him a good fight and he'll accept being his lord. However Miquella is teisting those words. I think Miquella just kinda played everyone honestly

Maybe Radahn challenged Miquella something and thought there would be no way that vow would be fulfilled because it was too difficult/almost impossible. Then Miquella did manage to do that and the rest is history. I just hate that so many Radahn fanboys keep spreading the idea Radahn never promised anything. We might not know the details of their promise, but Radahn wouldn’t be the kind to backtrack and flip flop on his words. We never know which challenge or which request Radahn made Miquella to perform, maybe Malenia marching to Caelid was one part of that, but not all. Maybe there was more content to the vow and it’s not just defeating Radahn in battle.
@@SuperBurdens I think it's even simpler, in their youths Miquella approached Radahn to become his consort and there was some kind of agreement that if Miquella becomes God he'd serve him. But as they grew up and experienced more of the world I think Radahn began to see Miquella for what he truly is, a monster, the most fearsome and terrible of the Empyreans, and knew him ascending would be a bad thing.
I think it's likely Miquella tried to call in the deal and Radahn backed out, so he sent Malenia to kill him, if he can't get Radahn to serve him in life then he'll force him to serve in death.

Waiting for any sign from Miquella to further journey to a land they can be all accepted in. Essentially all sacrifices

I think Miquella would have had to have given up on the Halig tree before sending Miquella to deal with Radahn. The entire point of Malenia killing Radahn was to send his soul onward to the Realm of Shadow to revive him. So he would have had to already had the plan to use Mohg in motion, no?

I’m honestly not sure if the formalist mother truly is evil, since we never really see it do anything harmful to those that uses its gifts, since the pureblood knights and Mohg doesn’t seem to have any negatively effects by the influence of the the Outer god only the lower ranking members of the dynasty has shown aspects of blood lust by its influence.🤔🐱
Shadow of the Erdtree has done a let of legwork in persuading me that, while the Formless Mother and its effects are disgusting... I don't think it's malevolent? It seems to come to the oppressed and downtrodden to empower them, and I think that is legitimate. Rather than exploiting vulnerable people who have no choice but accept, I think the FM reaching out to these groups is actually benevolent? Considering how much Miyazaki enjoys subverting expectations of morality in his work, it would certainly fit his modus operandi.
She might not be inherently evil but she seems naturally antithetical to life as we know it and/or as any normal human/animal would be able to flourish in.
Imo none of the outer gods are straight up evil, they're just aspects of nature come off as more neutral. They want to establish a new way of life that we deem evil because it opposes our way of life.

iirc Ansbach does say he is a Tarnished. I do find it curious the 2 NPCs that can become our allies to face the Miquella and the rest of the band are both Tarnished (i don't think it is ever stated Leda, Moore and Dane are, but i might have missed something).
That does seem oddly coincidental. We don't know much about Moore, Leda, and Dane...but Freyja was a redmane honor guard to Radahn. Hornsent is obviously some bitter loser who's mad Marika and Messmer got revenge for that Shaman/Jar fiasco. It would make sense for Ansbach to be a tarnished since most of Mohg's knights were bloody fingers and the bloody fingers were all tarnished.
Maybe it was a mercy. Of a sort.
Mohg was unjustly treated by Golden Order Society, his own family, and his own Mother. And yeah, having his soul discarded by Miquella sure sounds foul. Yet, Mohg was already in thrall to the Formless Mother, and he was running around with the likes of the Blood Fingers, long before Miquella captured his heart. Who can say what sort of condition his soul was in?
All of this is to say that while Mohg was abused, and he was used only for his body, he was never a Saint. He was going to come to a foul end, one way or another. Even Ansbach knows this, despite himself.
Reminder that Bloody Fingers willingly serve him, he didint force them to join him, Achbach doesent have blood eyes wich means Mohg started his Blood injection thing and the kidnaping of war surgeons after Miquella had charmed mohg. So basicly what the dynasty was before Miquella... was just a optional to join group.
Melania delivered Miquella's message to Radahn, the Young Lion set's revelation refers to her unheard words we see in their battle cutscene. There was no telepathy.

@@TheHonoredMadman I can't think of any connective tissue between Miquella's Haligtree efforts and his plans as revealed in the DLC, it's a little frustrating his initial narrative arc has been swept aside instead of being married to his DLC actions.
People have speculated that Miquella's curse wasn't just eternal youth, but also that of forever unrealized potential. He was stuck with both the mind and the body of a child, with all his efforts doomed to be abandoned whenever he hit some sort of snag. After all, the Haligtree wasn't the only plan he'd had in the base game, the mess with Castle Sol also was him.

so just putting everything together, timeline probably goes:
1: Miquella and Radahn make a transactional vow to be consorts; "Once we [finish warring with you in Caelid], promise you'll be my consort." (going by freyja's dialogue about the vow) (Radahn likely makes the promise just after the memory ends, since his boss title is literally "promised consort")
2: Malenia wars against Radahn, attempting to give him an honorable sendoff (freyja dialogue)
3: The scarlet aeonia blooms but doesn't fully kill Radahn, despite Malenia's intention (going by the young lion set, she intended for the bloom to deliver radahn to his consort, aka kill his body).
4: Finlay carries Malenia back to the haligtree all alone, journeying across the entire lands between.
5: Miquella journeys to the swamp of Aeonia. We dont know his intention in doing this beyond just looking for survivors like Freyja, maybe he was looking for Malenia, unaware of the Finlay situation. However, Freyja is aware of the Radahn festival started by Jerren, which means this is likely when Miquella is made aware of it as well. (hence why he doesn't kill Radahn himself)
6: Miquella comes back to the haligtree, and enters the cocoon to get rid of his child form.
7: Mohg shows up to kidnap Miquella (otherwise there's no explanation for him being there as far as we know), but is bewitched by Miquella, who then voluntarily leaves for the dynasty grounds with Mohg. (this would fit as the last time Malenia sees Miquella and begins awaiting "his return," hence her boss dialogue, so we can assume Finlay has finished the trip by now)
8: Back at the dynasty grounds, Ansbach challenges Miquella to a duel after seeing Mohg is bewitched, but fails.
9: Miquella departs to the shadow realm, fully intending for the tarnished to kill Radahn and Mohg. He starts at the gravesite plains (maybe teleporting from some of Mohg's blood to some of the Bloodfiends blood? would neatly fit with our spawn point just beneath the largest bloodfiend settlement in the realm)
10: Miquella first begins tearing apart his body at the three-path road just nearby (going by the etched words on his cross here)
11: events of the player character's journey, etc etc
This is like the only timeline i could think of that manages to line up with all the information we're given. Also side-note but Mohg still doesn't look too good in this timeline lmao

One interesting thing about Ansbach is if you remove his helmet, he has no Blood eyes. Hinting that perhaps the Injection of Mohgs blood to his followers came to be after Miquella was stolen aka when Mohg was charmed.

What I find curious is the link between flies, pots, and the Formless Mother. We use fly mold to make four different hefty pots, and the Ailing Village is full of fly-men (upon whom fly mold grows), and the only hornsent residing in the Ailing Village uses Swarm of Flies against us when we find him near the Ailing Talisman. Clearly the Formless Mother uses bloodflies as a medium, but how does she relate to the fly-men? They spit poison, not blood. It seems a bit vague to me. Is the ailing disease a manifestation of all plagues and status ailments since the Ailing Talisman reduces the effectiveness of those recently encountered? If so, is the Formless Mother the source for all ailments, including the Scarlet Rot and Poison and such? I do not think that is true, but it is all a bit murky to me.
I too have been trying to connect the formless mother to romina and the bud and rot cult that followed.

The like of dogs could also be because of how each emperion gets a shadow (the seemingly fate bound wolf men) as well as Ratagon's wolves.

he clearly murdered our maiden to cut us off from the guidance of grace so he could more easily recruit us, but he didn't take Melina into account, namely because he is likely unaware of her existence seeing as she is a spirit.

I’m probably missing some information cuz I haven’t combed through all the new lore, but it’s been a running theory of mine that Miquella may have posed as the Formless Mother in Mohg’s dreams using his powers as St Trina and either bewitched Mohg that way or, under the guidance Miquella pretending to be the Formless Mother, Mohg becomes bewitched the moment he’s in proximity of Miquella

I feel like now I’m gonna question the when of these events. When did Miquella charm Mohg, how much was Mohg acting on his own influence. Was it from the beginning, like telepathy and he never built everything. Personally, I imagine it similar to Anasbach- his enchantment was his own fault. He tried to take Miquella for his dynasty and then it got turned on him. I don’t take Miquella’s charm as mind control, you’re still you, it works differently on everyone and more acts as a moral compass. You’re still you, you just act more in compassion. But that’s just my thoughts

When ever I have a problem I chuck Olegg at it, works 100% of the time 60% of the time.
I couldn't help but notice all the empyreans are cruel and wicked to Godfrey's kids. Ranni kills Godwyn for no damn reason, Miquella bodysnatched and reverse groomed Mohg. Morgott got treated like trash even though he was holding down Leyndell for mom. The omen twins were forced to live in the damn sewers while we got monsters like Rykard, Miquella, and Ranni running lose ruining the Lands Between for selfish reasons. This DLC just proved what I already knew...that all of Godfrey's kids were the best demigods and they were done dirty just like their dad was.
Ansbach, in addition to being the best character in the DLC, was a refreshing twist and I was so happy to see the "good" npc wasn't just some fair maiden but a blood knight. He implies Mohg was enchanted for a while, and I can't help but think a lot of the bloody finger murder cult nonsense was done on Miquella's behalf to open the Land of Shadows. Meanwhile you have Lady Knight Leda who simps harder for Miquella than a Taylor Swift fan. She's a murderer and a deranged zealot who has the audacity to refer to Miquella as "the kind" after what he did to Mohg, Radahn, and presumably Malenia as well.

The fact that the Erdtree healing spell/incantation is the same one Melina uses when fighting Morgott. Meaning she is from the DLC area?
Pretty happy with the DLC. I love the atmosphere and world design. I've noticed that they have really upped their game on hiding things just out of site. Like if you look 20 more degrees to the right you'll see it but if you keep walking forward a pickup, leaver or door is sometimes easy to miss. I also find that the landscape can be difficult to remember sometimes so I will forget about things I had found before, only to rediscover them again. The base game had that effect for me but that was just due to raw size. The dlc does it more with level design. I remember often getting way lost but I kept charging forward cause I was like, I know there is more to discover and the only way to discover it is by going deeper in.
Which gets to my main complaint. Too many sites of grace. The level design would sometimes have 3 right next to each other and it was like, you could have just put an elevator, door or ladder to kick down to link these areas with one site of grace.
I also felt that Godfrey was due at least some back story and that Godwyn was also too absent from the story for my tastes. I suppose Radagon as well but he was so prominent in the base game that I'm fine with them leaving him out of the back story.
The rot god and the formless mother also had some moments but I felt they could have had more.
Kinda surprised there wasn't a blue dancer mausoleum to match the red dancer one.
The blue dancer/blind swordsman looked like he was being set up as a DLC boss, Godwyn got three knights and one of them already being dead. At least there's now a new mystery over just what his "surrogate corpse" is, the specific visage of death that refers to also has a third eye.
So glad we got the chance to fight alongside him! I find the fact that Ansbach finds Miquella so frightening because of how he can affect the minds of others and NOT his physical prowess so compelling ❤

Too be fair on Marika's crusade, what the hornsent did to the people in Marika's village within hinterland was just as atrocious as what she did to the hornsent afterwards

Its intriguing that Miquella can still charm people even if hes in an unresponsive state like with Mohg you'd think he'd have to be responsive to charm people so this begs to question who's body is in the cocoon since miquella was apparently discarding his body bit by bit in the Shadow Realm

As a day 1 believer in the Mohgwyn Dynasty, I feel vindicated that Mohg was who I thought I was. I always had a feeling Miquella was trifling when I heard about his ability to "compel affection." As someone who roleplays a Sanguine Noble (of Eochaid) as my PC, this was so awesome.
