HB never hugs anyone back. she didn't even hug enid back when she's about to leave, but she did to Pippa. I DO happen to think she's gay, but that's not the only thing that's important. I wanted this countdown to not only be about her potentially romantic relationships with women, but also about her importance to queer women and girls who watch the show. A lot of queer women really like witch characters like Hecate because they show us a vision of power and strength that doesn't have to be related to men. Some of the items in this countdown are about how she embodies a type of femininity that isn't necessarily about what men find attractive, and that especially appeals to queer women. That said, it's also really important to me that she has close, intimate relationships with other women, and I really enjoy watching the show and interpreting Hecate, Ada and Pippa as queer. Unless the show definitively says something about it, nothing "makes" them gay, but nothing "makes" them straight either. You are entitled to your own interpretation. I am entitled to mine.
