Got a call from one of my drivers at 4am. This week. Blew an air bag on the tractor now what ? Advised pinch it off, run on 3 air bags, finish running load come to shop. At 5am. It took 16 minutes to unhook trailer fix bag rehook trailer and he was off and runnig. Almost a nacar pit stop.
Thank you fellas great video
Love these big truck repair videos. Watching Wild Bill pt that plug in with a crescent wrench made me think how nice it would be if you had a snap-on dealer stop by so Bill could get real wrenches. Lol
Funny I come across this... I’ve got a hole in an air bag as we speak. Same side, rear trailer axle! Just found it when I did my post trip.
Keep up the good work I just joined your community the big blue thumbs up for you guys looking forward to hearing from you Ken
A bottle jack under the bumper upright works well too, if the bumper is structurally sound. Use a large piece of c channel above the jack to spread the weight across the bumper. Lift it just until the leveling valve stops exhausting. Feel the bag and it should be soft, no air inside. If theres still air youre not high enough. Now you don't have to clamp or cap the line. There will also be enough room to easily remove the old bag and install the new one. Take an air nozzle with flex hose ran off the end and stick that through the frame into the bag. With one hand hit the nozzle and fill the bag up, with the other thread the outside top nut on by hand. Put it back together, drop the jack slow, and the trailer will automatically level back out. Done. Oh and if you hear any air hissing, that means your jack is dropping and you better get the hell out of there.... Be safe out there, hopefully these tips help somebody out...
Thank you so much I’m doing it myself trying to save money
Remove the slider clips lift the box from the bogie makes it much easier to access and repair well that is if it’s not loaded
He was so happy to say they sprayed the nuts with pb the one guys explaining in detail then out of nowhere he’s like I sprayed the pb like dam buddy you are an essential part we got you
He's gonna let the help get the hernia pulling on those big ass nuts . I guess he went and sat down in the office and didn't show the hard part , getting the back side nut off . The assholes at Hendrickson left Bout a 16th of a ture to get the backside nut off . They sell it , you figure out how to fix it , and it's not good luck , it's , a FYou
Just asking why put vice grips on plastic line just let air of system to bags then take line off I made a cap to screw on to supply line like u said work smart not hard because if brake supply line have to change out that too
LOVE THE USE OF ANTI sees the gray stuff
+Mike we keep the air in the system to let the other bags raise the trailer up. Just saves work on the compressor. We keep the air line in stock and the fittings so if it breaks we replace it. Just makes the fix quicker. We have hose pliers but he just used the needle nose vice grips.
Do not pinch the airline , Truckers !
That airline fitting, what size is it? I need to replace both of mine and I have no clue and where can I get new? Napa?
Thanks man for this video .
I have a question about Freightliner Cascadia 2016
The truck it doesn't come with airbag dumb switch inside the cab
When I need to empty the airbag I don't have switch key available
If there is any way I can add airbag switch suspension ?
thank you ...
You can add a switch
I have a ATC light on my dash and I have notice when I break it pull the o the left a little and there is a small knock I have check my front suspension Avery thing looks good any help thank you
Did you find out what it was
Work on these all the time. Should have shown people how to change the airbag on the front axle. Anyone can change a bag on the rear axle. Try contending with the air tank, Sealco valve, air brake lines, and little to no room to work.
Eric Pulliam I actually put two on the front axle today I started to video it but I had already done this one. Still better than putting a bag on the front axle of a Volvo truck those are a pain too
Koon Trucking I work on petroleum transport trailers and tractors. Mostly Kenworth, Freightliner, and Peterbilt. Volvo? I dont walk away....I run!!!!
Front is the easiest air bag to change, you must have not changed the air bag on reefer trailer if you think rear trailer air bags are easy
What happens when it blows up or inflates
And the plate that is under the bag?
3/4 socket and what was the other size?
1 1,8 also doing a fully loaded trailer you need to plug the air and inflate and use a forklift on the bumper to support it
I even put never seize on my sandwiches
The vice grips don’t kink the plastic air line?
They don’t hurt it, we have tried hose clamp pliers and they won’t seal them off. Vise grips are about the only thing that will work
Unless the airline is old and brittle, vice grips shouldn't hurt it at all. I usually just bend the line in half and put a zip tie around the kink. If the line is old and it leaks afterwards, i just cut the kink and put a union in its place.
Never pinch a plastic line
Just add some cloth around your line and use the vice grips it’ll be fine
I always use anti seize
Very good but, one thing...never pinch a simplex line!! just use a female air line coupler to isolate the line, exact same size as the fitting...easy peasy .
When there really you can just cut it open with a knife and take torch to it lol
Or you can think of the next guy that has to work on the truck or trailer if we all did that everyone's job would just be a lot easier I hate hearing guys at work say "well I'm not gonna see that truck again" and just put stripped out nuts and bolts back on to get the job done when there is a better way.
+corwindotsonful I agree we have to fix a lot of stuff that someone hacked. It gets old after a while but ..... guess that’s life. Plenty of hack mechanics out there.
That's why I'm glad I got on with a good fleet. TravelCenters of America TA/Petro can go stick their piss poor wages right up their inefficient goofy asses.

worthless. Why did you cut off the video and restarted when you were unhooking the airline you we don’t know what you did.
If that confuses you then you probably shouldn’t be attempting the repair because we show you have to do it…
