What a spectacular voice. Saw her open for Beck at MSG. Great show.
I remember Jenny from "Troop Beverly Hills". I didn't follow her singing career, but after hearing this, I'll be staying tuned!
Omg! When a song gives me goosebumps! I have to wear it out. I love this song I'm going to Amazon music right now
She's really really good
this song really sneaks up on you... so beautiful and catchy
Riley Kilo Ren yeah!
fun tune with a mellow feel! very retro!
another great song, love the new album!!
She put on such a great show in our city this past spring!
Slammin'! Jenny Lewis is amazing, great albums!
I will never be able to get over that that is the same Jenny Lewis that was in Troop Beverly Hills!!! That is baffling!!!
I love this song so much! ♥️
another great song from this album is Red Bull & Hennessy feat: Director Eric Notarnicola’s grainy, vintage-looking clip features quick appearances from an impressive cast, including Beck, St. Vincent, Mac DeMarco, a nattily attired Jeff Goldblum, Vanessa Bayer, Jason Schwartzman, Danielle Haim, Nikki Lane, Tim Heidecker, and former WCW World Heavyweight Champion David Arquette
Jenny Lewis AND "Single Handidly Bringing Back The Musical Stylings Of Patti Page"
Love her!!!❤❤❤
Jenny Rules!
I remember seeing her in Troop Beverly Hills a million times as a kid... still amazing!
Finally a former child actress who can sing and write. That was always her best talents. She is a great performer.
She
I want Jason Boesel to be my drummer!! Flawless, guys!! Dang. Jenny should be proud. They all should be.
Yep Jason Boesel is the fucking man
Good to be alive-Great Song Jenny !!
I want to see her live again!
The skull track suits are awesome. My mom would dig it.
She is so darn good!
Jenny Lewis seems like a mixture of Zoey Deschanel and my former choir teacher. I love this song! 💙💜
Heard this song live when Jenny Lewis opened for Father John Misty last summer. I jotted it down in my phone’s notes because it was so catchy. Glad to see her on Colbert!
Wasted my youth watching 'The Wizard' in theaters, but loooove her music!!
Taught a generation how to find the whistle in world 1 of super mario world.
@@simetry6477 She taught how to play craps, The Wizard found that whistle in Super Mario 3
Like fine wine 👌🏼 my girl
i love this song
Love The Late Show, always gives me ideas for my channel (for comedy and with celebrities)
Great tune
I have such a huge crush on Jenny Lewis
Band sounds great
Dig it. Feel like she's calling me out for wasting my youth tho
bump into you here. Small internet world.
@@shivershadowband darling where have you been?
@@shivershadowband the world isn't small. But fate is always on time
What’s happening here?? Update please!
excellent, beautiful, sublime.
I like their outfits; weird but comfortable looking. Also, like the person's hairdo, the one on the bass. :)
Wendy Desparois it’s a good do
Great message done subtle and swell.
Oh, shit, I just saw her in Toronto with Death Cab! Great show, even though rain. Glad she played a Postal Service song too!
I wish the people out there that thumbs down that song would just not! That was really GOOD!
👑
Wizard!
It's cute how they're wearing matching track suits lol
Much less provocative than the cover she shot (I happen to like both).
Love her so much. Live she was a goddess.
Andrew Yang and Jenny Lewis on the same show!
Love the song. Not too sure about the skull sweat shirts.
Yeah, skulls, why? People who 'decorate' themselves with those kind of repulsive icons have no place in the public sphere. I find them pityful.
I did not like the (first 15 seconds that I watched of) the song.
It's her merch.
@NakedAndLaughing -- You dead people are something else lmao. I feel sorry for you, celebrating death and decay ... while you are alive.
Well, at least you are naked and laughing, so I'll give you that ;)
imagine being such a pathetic shit that you're bothered by human anatomy
Wasn't she in "The Wizard"?
Yup
And Troop Beverly Hills
And also legendary indie rock band Rilo Kiley
Indeed she was, alongside Fred Savage. The Power Glove is also introduced in that movie because it is bad.....so bad.
@@brettbarrow4383 Yes, alongside Blake Sennett who was Ronnie Pinsky in a Nickelodeon show called "Salute Your Shorts."
Damn I was really hoping it would have some connection to the meatloaf song haha
Like it
Doesn't it seem odd that he has these musical guests but doesn't interview them?
Good, but it's better at 1.5x speed.
They look from another era. A better one.
It's called the 90s
I think that's the subtle message they are trying to put across. Hairstyle and makeup from the 60s, psychedelic background from the 70s, tracksuits from the 80s (with a wink to the 50s when a pop bands had to dress in the same outfit). And the poppy is a reference to wartime, although war never stopped in the other decades either. So I'm guessing the message is to not waste your youth on war.
Timi M heroin is made from poppies. The lyrics are about wasting your youth doing drugs. “Sister we’re sliding down a bong”
I wish the refrain was
"I wasted my youth on a puppy"
😂 very different song...
Poppy Melissa not puppy...in other words drugs..
@@Rhiannon011 I know. I lost a loved one to heroin when I was nine. Thats why I wish it was "puppy."
I am so sorry for your loss melissa saint. Forgive me if what I wrote hurt or offended you.
@@Rhiannon011 Oh my goodness, no, Barbara. You were just trying to be informative, you couldn't possibly have know that about a stranger!
Thank you for your very kind words, though.
@@melissasaint3283 My sister is an addict...she was supposed to have died of liver failure years ago..but she has survived but keeps doing drugs...all kinds...I can relate to you...she is 63 and been an addict since a teenager. I have never even smoked cigarettes and I stopped drinking many many years ago..though not an alcoholic I just wanted to make sure I didn't become like my father or sister..he died 4 years ago..
🖖
Cool shirts!
Nice.
my favourite from the (great) album
Is this song about what I think it is? (The alkaloid in poppies that can steal away your youth). I like it whatever it's about. Great band with strings, singable chorus, attractive singer/songwriter.
It could also be a reference to wartime, since a poppy is the commemorative flower.
wow...
I might by her album just so I can fully... appreciate... its cover. ;-)
I wanted images of her playing double dragon
Jenny Lewis AND "Should Be Singing Sheb Wooley's Purple People Eater"
How many people thought this song was about puppies?
Me. I had to Google the lyrics to figure out what you were meaning!
I did lol
I wasted my youth on a puppy. Not a waste cause Jenny was there
Jenny Lewis AND "The Purple Oyster Cult"
Great song writing! Sounds like something Elvis Costello could've written
Nope she writes her own music!
She actually sang backup on one of his records a few years ago. But yeah, she writes all her own stuff.
@@ritzy5691 I wasn't suggesting otherwise. I was simply saying that her style is reminiscent of his
They actually recorded a song together on Jenny’s second solo album, after the breakup of Rilo Kiley: ua-cam.com/video/5iExVdyq9BU/v-deo.html
I too wasted my youth on a puppy! 🐶
The guitarist wants to fight me!! Screw you dude im drunk!!!
waste me jenny!
I also am in trouble...di di di diii dooooo
Terrific drug awareness neat retro tune feeling. Danceable, too! TU
Having WWE's Daniel Bryan on guitar completely made be forget that Jenny Lewis became Peggy Bundy
I can't decide whether the guitarist is just super nervous or having a mild stroke.
i dont think the genaral public gets the costumes great singer song writer on that show i would think you would want to look better the west coast may have got it but the mid west and east coast went to bed
she sings to put down that bong. does she mean she wasted her youth on a "papi"?
my bourbon is gone...
Meatloafs version was better.
Peg escaped from Married With Children?
Yes, that's her, Peggy "Do Not Bother To Thank Her" Wanker
@@LEMMYKISGOD I didn't mean to trigger you Mr. White Knight.
"Wasted youth"? I thought it would sound more like grunge.
The demons are not unfriendly. 😉
Postmodern Bubble Gum
Fun hu?
Wasted four minutes
I wasted 4 minutes and 17 seconds , where is my refund?
Now that was some weird thumbnail...
Why does Stephen Colbert have a 1970s band playing?
Not 1970's Just real music not Corporate Crap with a Autotune!
Yeah...I like Wasted Youth from Meat Loaf more
Doob!!!!!!!
Her vibrato is so slow you could throw a dead cat through it.
B6 schilke holy fuck dude
She struggles to hit high notes as well
Nope! Trash.
Meatloaf's song is better!
didn't you just do a bunch of segments about puppies and in her song she said she wasted her youth on a puppy on a hound I get it it was meant to represent a young dude but cousin is coming take away from the whole puppy adoption thing he was doing 🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔
And here I was expecting a cover of the Meat Loaf song... disappointed.
Wasted youth is better better than a wise and productive old age lol
that 70s hair cut... embarrassing
Melania Trump performs 'Wasted Youth'
Awful! 👎
Seriously, where did they get those onesies? They are awful.... Music had about as much bite as a wet flannel. Not exactly winning the audience here kids....
Huge fan base she makes millions and you ask do you want fries with that!
@@ritzy5691 She's GR8!!!
Ritzy not since I was 16... had to pay for my education somehow... music is still shit.
peter g I ski a lot, edges bite into snow. I’m looking for edge in music, something that challenges. Not a regurgitation of the music my parents got bored of in 1969. So the metaphor works for me.
@peter g Beter than yours of I'll keep listening to the no talent Crap the Corporate machine puts on the radio and buy what every brain dead friend is listening to like a good little consumer drone! Bite on that loser!
how did popular music of the last ten years get so boring???
[Verse 1]
Sister, we're slidin' down a bong
I can't tell you what I think you're doing wrong
Stop your cryin', our daddy's gone
Do you remember when he used to sing us that little song?
[Chorus]
I wasted my youth on a poppy
Doo-doo doo-doo doo, just for fun
I wasted my youth on a poppy
Doo-doo doo-doo doo, just because
[Verse 2]
Why you lyin'? The bourbon's gone
Mercury hasn't been in retrograde for that long, oh no
Stop your hiding, drop that bomb
Do you remember when I used to sing you this little song?
[Chorus]
I wasted my youth on a poppy
Doo-doo doo-doo doo, just for fun
I wasted my youth on a poppy
Doo-doo doo-doo doo, just because
And everybody knows, it's a tight rope
The cookie crumbles into dust
And everybody knows, we're in trouble
Doo-doo doo-doo doo, candy crush
[Bridge]
Just 'cause you're young, don't mean nothing
Don't mean nothing
We are here and we're gon' do something
While your heart is thumping
[Chorus]
I wasted my youth on a poppy
Doo-doo doo-doo doo, just because
I wasted my youth on a poppy
Doo-doo doo-doo doo, just for fun
And everybody knows, it's a tight rope
The cookie crumbles into dust
And everybody knows, we're in trouble
Doo-doo doo-doo doo, candy crush
[Outro]
Wasted my youth
Wasted youth
Doo-doo doo-doo doo
Wasted youth
Doo-doo doo-doo doo
Wasted youth
Doo-doo doo-doo doo
What the hell does all that MEAN???
Steaming shit pile.
@@leavingitblank9363 bong poppy she wasted her youth on drugs as she was sad her daddy was gone . Life is tough and you walk a tightrope
@@leavingitblank9363 the song is about Jenny's mother and her drug addiction, told through the eyes of Jenny's childhood. Such a brilliant, heartfelt song
@@leavingitblank9363 The chorus is not being said by the song’s narrator. It’s the “little song” she introduces just before singing it each time (do you remember when he used to sing us this little song)
The song makes more sense after you notice that.
Anyway her parents were heroin addicts, so here she’s imagining them singing her an insouciant little lullaby about their drug use.
And the bridge is pretty clear and literal, on the topic of wasted youth: “Just cause you’re young, don’t mean nothing. We’re here and we’re gone.” I.e you have all the time in the world to do something with your life, until you don’t. “Do something while your heart is pumping”
I love how insane she's become
First time I’ve heard of her. Sounds retro.
You might remember her as the girl from The Wizard.
Her lyrics used to be way better, more poignant, thoughtful. Now they're a lot lazier. Ah well. :)
The sweatshirts 💀
