His chest voice is one of the most beautiful baritone registers in rock and roll!
His speaking voice is even better
He's almost 70 years old, I think he sounds fantastic.
I think it's idiotic for people to expect singers in their 60s and 70s to retain the range and elasticity of their 20s and 30s. I think he sounds fantastic in this performance. This dude has been performing for 50 years. Love him.
And actually , to make a precision point , he did pretty high stuff sin e Deep Purple , but in the Geffen era of WS , he actually went out of his register .
His sinus operation was 1986 , and for 3 years he had a bit less gritty voice .
But it back to it in 1991, and 1993 .
Unfortunnally people still have that image of 1987 , and americans especially
But this is not His real style .
Also many complain about the updated gritt nowadays , its funny for this people to consider themselves hard rock fans and complain about agression .
I don't get it , they say " his voice is shot ".
Well he always sang like this , he is just Heavier with age .
The 1978-1983/84 whitesnake was more Gritty and his register , more raw .
With High here and there .
Instead of Belting constantly high ii 1987-1989 .
Also even nowadays , people have to think That he screams way above the average , considering his age , even 1step or Half step lower this is still Tricky to do .
Try to sing verses and screams of Slow and easy as he did in 2016 .
Now think about the original key ti think how monster he is and was .
And David is a Deep Baritone .
Some classical singers would say this is not normal that he would be able to hit notes like he does .
I think it's unfair to make a blanket statement. Glenn hughes has better control of his voice and sounds better than he did in his 20s. Ronnie James Dio never lost it. Rare but there are examples
Troy Boyle Agree, but look up Shirley Bassey 2002 live version of Goldfinger and hear that ending at 65 yrs old, unbelievable.
Still not a patch on her 70s version.
Though I have to say 2 people that have unbelievably kept their voice all these years; Jon Anderson of "Yes" (and AWR) and Michael Sadler of "Saga" :). Ronnie James Dio was doing pretty good too \m/.
50 years from now, some kid is going to be watching Tommy Aldridge in a rock band.
Ok ... no kidding. I saw him with Ozzy (Motley Crue opening), Great show. Also saw Ozzy with Randy Rhodes, I believe After the Fire opened. The crowd was shouting for Ozzy sooo much they only played a few songs. The singer went nuts, lit his hair on fire, grabbed the drummers drum sticks from him and whipped them at the crowd. The drummer had a single bass small pink drum set ... I knew things would get ugly.
DC is my hero. Been dying for you to review him, Beth. Honest and excellent words as always. The other thing that critics forget is his age. To still hit those notes is incredible.
it took me under a minute of you talking to realise you are clearly a pro vocal coach, refreshing to see. liked and subscribed
No doubt, he his one of the best voice and song writer of all rock world!
I was at this gig, Hammersmith Apollo 2004. Still my favourite gig I've been too and my favourite band .
do you confirm that real version of this show was VERY DIFFERENT than the live dvd/cd released, vocally speaking?
@@giorgioandreabaldisserri4802
Not that I remember to be honest.
I saw the old David Coverdale at JogjaRocKarta March 1st 2020.
He's rocking the show.
He has always struck me with his voice...hole in the sky... And Time and Again are great solo tracks.. And his voice is so so emotional.. 😎
Listen Coverdale in 70's or 80's. My favorite age.
He was at one time the greatest nicknamed perfect pitch and one take coverdale a shame that he lost it yet he is still performing that's great
Beth You give me joy!
Saw Whitesnake at Irvine Meadows in California during the 1987 tour. Beth , the blonde guitarist is Doug Aldrich, who played with Ronnie James Dio. Another awesome vocalist you covered. Doug also played in Hurricane. The lead singer Kelly Hanson has been singing for Foreigner at least 20 years. David is one of my favorite vocalists. Great songs too.
Thanks for this awesome lesson. I really enjoyed myself. I look forward to tomorrow. Have a great day 😀
Some of the advice you gave during your video was really helpful, Cheers mate!
Love it!!!! Thanks Beth!❤
I love your attitude & style of critique. Keep up the great work!!!
This was my class song in high school
Great Singer - you can tell they tune like 1\2 or full step down because of his voice.
Coverdale is in the top 20 (I'm being conservative here) of hard rock vocalists. Believe me, many people wished they could sing like him in the 70s, 80s, 90s, 00s, AND 10s. Five decades? Yes, that's what makes him top 20. Again conservatively. The range, the tone, the song writing, the look, etc. Put it all together. Michael Kiske, Rob Halford, Sammy Hagar, Jack Russell, Bruce, etc., these guys could SING!
one thing that I've been realizing is that these vocal coaches usually react to the same songs, as if there was an association of vocal coaches that regulated this
Actually it's just everyone commenting the same bands to be reacted to
They just react to what brings them views... Never seen a negative reaction video so far. It's all about money in the end. Still, i like Beth.
Hey Beth, check out Dead Can Dance - Host of Seraphim. I would love to hear your thoughts!
Yes "Dead can dance" is so cool.
I asked for YEARS to react to the GODDESS of Voices Nr. 1 ever!!!!......SANVEAN LIVE Version PLEASE! .... Dead Can Dance - Sanvean ( I Am Your Shadow ) : ua-cam.com/video/xfgl57vINmw/v-deo.html
Mistreated California jam, é inacreditável 👌🏻
I love his Bariton voice.
In my humble opinion, Coverdale and Plant are the two best vocalists in rock. Dickinson comes third. And, thinking about it, Page had the pleasure to work with both.
Great video, though!
Um... Dio, Tate ...
Classsssic loved it !!!! Great song and performance...and your reaction and comments are great...thank you for the memories...🤪😜
ReAct to nevermore ... warrel Dane was an amazing singer
He still sounds great!
Love this, take care... 🤗😁😷🥰
Besides your talent musically, your hair, your eyes, .... You’re Beautiful!!!!!! Love your reviews... So intelligent.....!, To your health and success! J

Stellar job on Show must go on! He went for broke on that album
Only thing that kills me with all the vocal coach reviews is they often do versions when the singer isn’t in their prime.
I think that exactly that is a great point about teaching someone to sing: to teach 'em to make the best of what they've got. To not only show performances at a level that most of them will never get to, however hard they'd ever try.
Like: "you're a woman. Try to sing as high as Eivoer Palsdotttir, when performing "Falling free".
Some fantastic singers will never get there.
Another example: "Never the bride" once did Going To California by Led Zeppelin. Singer Nikki Lamborn, in an interview, apologised: "I cannot sing as high as Robert Plant."
Well: still, Roger Daltrey once called her the "greatest voice since Janis Joplin".
Try to take a look at both and enjoy.
Exactly! Stormbringer coming!
Would have been better if she'd checked out the original version on 'Saints & Sinners. The late 70s, up to '82/'83 were his prime years. That's when his vocal confidence was at it's highest. Not to insult his DP years though. He was a great vocalist, even as a relative youngster, but he also had Glenn Hughes as a rather decent backup.
i know its not a very nice place but it would be nice to do a review of the german group halloween with the song keeper of the seven keys because Mr. Kiske is still amazing
If you like this song, I highly recommend the cover from "Band Geek" with Mike Tirelli singing. It's great!
have a listen to here i go again on the saints and sinners Album it is more bluesy
You should react to his performance in "live at donington", he was in his top form on that show
Beth "Shake my tree" By Coverdale/Page. Whole record is a Masterpiece!
Beth you're so FINE😘❤
0:55-1:04 is the hottest moment in BethRoars history.
Hey Beth love your reactions and if you haven't done yet, I hope you do Great gig in the sky, by Pink floyd. Thx.
I would like to hear your thoughts on Bernie Shaw from Uriah Heep, one of their recent live concerts. (their older stuff has been done to death)
Take a look at Phil Collins (pun intended), please! He was phenomenal in his prime.
I love the Coverdale + Hughes era of Deep Purple.
Please can u have a look at falling in reverse - the drug in me is reimagined
Looooooove my german boyzzz
reacts to actually singers that use autotune
don't reacts to the legendary rock vocalist

Devin Townsend Project Stormbending Official Video
Need to do some Metallica the thing that should not be and Cinderella shake me and don’t know what you got till it’s gone
Got such a lowkey crush on you, Beth! ;) Keep up the great work.
David Coverdale could still outsing Bon Jovi even after his surgery hahaha
No hate to Bon Jovi, brilliant singer in his time, but he's very clearly past it. Watching him perform in 2019's Rock in Rio was painful.
I've watched their show live 2 days before that, in São Paulo. It was, hands down, one of the best shows I've ever been, and easily the best of the festival. It sounded MUCH BETTER than Rock in Rio's transmission, he did an amazing job. Rock in Rio never sounds good unless you're there, so I wouldn't take that for granted.
Went to see Bon Jovi, did not get home disappointed. He's clearly past his prime, yes, but he managed to sing decently for 3 and a half hours. He used every trick in the book (lowering the tone here and there, handing it off to us for a good ol' singalong, generally being a showman and an entertainer) but he did it. I can forgive his terrible try on Livin' on a Prayer. I lost my voice there, too...
Word. I dont dig the nasally thing BJ does now
cloverdale's voice is official toast. Worse than Paul Stanley David Lee Roth Vince Neil Stephen Pearcy all wrapped up in one.
Sad to say but last year when I saw Whitesnake, Coverdale's voice was shot. Meanwhile, Glenn Hughes was performing the same day, doing Deep Purple and he nailed it. That man took care of his voice like you wouldn't believe!
It doesn't count unless Beth reacts while sliding around on a sports car.
a JAAAAG
Brilliant!
Absolutely love to see Beth Roar and rule the ride. Love you Beth and mint that as a gentleman.✌️♥️😹
Smooth.....
Came here, looking for this very comment.
He's 69 years old, and he's acting like he doesn't know it!
He was at his prime 30 years ago, when albums "Whitesnake" and "Slip of the Tongue" were released ('87 & '89), but he's still out there somewhere playin' shows, sounding better than most of the currently popular singers, half a century younger than him!
\,,/
Exactly. He sounds great. I don't know what people are thinking. The same for Joe Lynn Turner. JLT was born in 1951 and he is killing it. Go listen to "Edge of Tomorrow'.
69 in September of this year, born 1951.
Coverdale is the man, period.
30 years ago he was definitvly going too much outside of his range
yet John Sykes wrote all his best music.
David Coverdale is such an underrated vocalist
Definitely not underrated. Most people will admit he's one of the greatest singers in rock ever. Yeah, he doesn't sound the same now but for the love of God, he's David F'n Coverdale.
I think he's not underrated, he's just fairly unknown to the 'younger generations'. He's 69.
@@perunlowtuned an we all know how Davey loves 69:P
Meh, i'd say he definately gets the fame and respect He deserves
Oops, silly comment, he's regarded as one of rock's greatest vocalists

NICE!!!! Coverdale is just a legend!! You could do a video on his Deep Purple bandmate Glenn Hughes! His voice is amazing... And while he's getting older, his voice keeps on spot!! Got to watch him live a couple of years ago and even sick as hell he pulled out an outstanding concert! What's unique is his funk mojo on his singing!
Here's a suggestion!
ua-cam.com/video/t6QjV7vNGWY/v-deo.html
Agreed awesome the voice of rock deserves so love.
This performance holds up for me . Yeah, he's older but still brings his A game. Some of his 80's contemporaries who are still touring wish they could sound half as solid as Mr. Coverdale.
Guys like david lee Roth, tom kieffer, and Stephen Pearcy wish they had coverdale's chops...
And coverdale is older than those guys!
I do love the "In The Still of The Night" album, but I think reacting to Coverdale live should be done in the "Deep Purple California Jam 1974" album
Absolutely, and she can also react to Glenn Hughes at the same time.
@@stefanomaccheo yeah, Hughes's vocal antics are pretty much what ruins that album for me.
The album is called 1987. Still Of The Night is the first track not the title track.
@@CB-xr1eg well, the album is actually called Whitesnake, it's called 1987 because that's when it was released.
@@TheAndrejP "well, the album is actually called Whitesnake, it's called 1987"
Nice way to contradict yourself. 👍
True Whitesnake fans call it the 1987 album. Just as Beatles fans called their self titled album The White Album.
You should do an episode on Glenn Hughes, he hasn't lost any of his voice, it's unbelievable!
The voice of rock Glenn is a legend singer agreed
One of the greatest Rock/Metal Singers ever!......next HIS Live Version of MISTREATED!!!!
Beth, I love the way you reviewed this. David Coverdale is one of the greats. You could have picked a video from his heyday, but you chose to venture into his more recent work, with all the weight of the years and the vocal excesses he's committed. In fanboards, usually that is a polarizing question - people love it or hate it. But you, lady, you managed to point out the problems with elegance and technique, while still showing why David is still one of the greats AND putting some admiration on top of it all.
Your first video on my timeline was with Ian Gillan, another of my all-time faves, and I learned a lot about his singing and writing style from you. You picked a video from his heyday; can you react someday to a more recent performance of his, especially with a newer song? His singing style changed a bit with age, he is 75 this year and I know fans are unfair when they demand his performance to be like it was when he was 25. I know he still has it. But only you can tell me what is it, that I hear but I can't name.
Thank you a lot for your work.
He is my favorite vocalist, thanks for the video.
Beth, you are just adorable. Your facial expressions are cute when you're reacting.
Has there been a reaction to Jorn? I've always thought of him as the lovechild of Dio and Coverdale. And I've seen him live, he is really good.
He's fantastic! Made me like non - clean vocals
The reason why these rock n roll singers had distinct voices is because they never listened to a vocal coach.
Please do his brother in arms Glenn Hughes someday. He's still incredible to this day.
Agree, saw him live a couple of years ago and he blew my mind
kutnersuicide his voice at 68 is incredible, he even does the C5 to this day
Deep Purple - Burn from the California Jam in 1974
@@docgonzales While playing bass like a boss at the same time.
@@Kylora2112 Yes Yes Yes!
I actually saw him live on 3 occasions
October 2011, Forevermore Tour, São Paulo
November 2013, Monsters of Rock São Paulo
September 2016, Greatest Hits Tour, São Paulo, just after his 65th birthday)
His voice is still really consistent and he can still do some pretty difficult shit. Most of the lower and stronger notes have been passed around to Michael Devin (current Whitesnake bassist and a second vocalist that sounds much like David used to sound back in the 80's) but David still keeps it up and his composition skills have kept a great quality.
Even in the Rock in Rio 2019, his voice was pretty good, even if nobody's ever gonna do a decent soundcheck for Whitesnake in Rock in RIo. Not in 84 and not in 2019. He still brought it, and he still has a kickass band just in case he fails.
Need a reaction of some Jorn Lande and Russell Allen. Monster vocalists.
I’ve always loved this live performance. Especially when the guitars come in, awesome tone.
you should take a look on his Soldier of fortune song. brilliant!
I agree. David Cloverdale rocks. One of my favorite bands
Really happy I got to see them this tour. Was my first hard rock/metal show. Went with my dad (long time Whitesnake fan) and it was fantastic.
have you heard the 1987 version (no the radio edit)? he reaches incredible tones in there!
I was at this concert and DC was in excellent form. You cannot compare his voice now to what it was when he first came to prominence with Deep Purple. Keep rocking David x
I was as well. The mix and sound here was brilliant. Seen them in total about 12 times since the mid eighties up to late 2010’s and the sound at Hammersmith was the best.
You should do a reaction of Ian Gillan - When a blind man cries
Or Ian Gillan on a good song lol
@@acebrockton1828 Bollocks, Its a brilliant song. get some fucking musical taste you twat.
Beth, you need to analyze Coverdale's performance:
Deep Purple - Burn "Live in California 1974"
I think you will be amazed, extremely impressed...
There are actually two living legends in this performance:
David Coverdale (lead vocals) and Glenn Hughes (backing vocals)...
Exactly, in that time it was 1 tone higher than today...the good old times :)
Absolutely, Hughes and Coverdale work very well together on Burn and Mistreated from that '74 Cal Jam concert, sharing vocals, they do compliment each other.
I think she should compare the original deep purple version of burn with the whitesnake version both have there own charm in my opinion.
Yes she must do it!
It's all a matter of opinion. But in their primes....Steve Perry and David Coverdale are the best Rick vocalist of all time.
Very, very nice that you confront your viewers/listeners with the best era in music. Pure music without the computer-intgrated SHIT (pardon my French). Honest music from the 60's and 70's. Please more of these great band/singers please. Love Coverdale's (Whitesnake) voice.
Great reaction I also agree with some of the commenters below please react to Deep Purple burn live from the California jam. Or mistreated from the same show that has Coverdale and Glenn Hughes together on different parts. Glenn Hughes live is still amazing.
Since the first time I saw the video on MTV in the end of the 80s this has been my favorite song. When I was still in the Marines my guys called it my theme song. It became expected that I would always drive up with it blasting.
Best voice in rock - ever...
He's version of "Mistreated" from "Live in the heart of the city" is divine... BUT also his singing on the solo album "Northwinds" is epic... absolutely angelic... wonderful...
I would say that his version of Mistreated from Deep Purple Burn album is the best ever :/ However is he the best rock singer ever? Not really - certainly one of the best rock singers ever - that's more like it.
Ronnie James Dio is the best. Why? Because he has an amazing range and voice. He also has sang every genre of music
Personally, i think Myles Kennedy has the best voice in rock, but that's just my opinion and we all know what they say about opinions.
Ronnie James Dio would disagree......
I'm a big fan of mistreated I'm California jam 1. Best ever
I just saw Whitesnake this past year David Coverdale was amazing!! He sounded better than ever! He was hitting high notes and raspy vocals amd deep low notes. The best i ever heard him sing!!!!
Such a pity he can't do this anymore, although I didn't know about the surgery and that certainly explains a few things. He still clearly wants to give it all at live concerts these days and the backup singers are amazing (keyboardist is Michele Luppi, which, if you have time for, you might wanna consider reacting to, as he's an amazing singer and also a vocal coach himself), but it's still sad to see that he can't pull off performances like this anymore.
Love your show and David is one of the best vocalists ever and his talking voice is perfect...he should do voice overs for chocolate commercials.Sorry to take so long to get to the point but as singers get older they cannot possibility do what they could do 30 or 40 or 50 years earlier and I'm talking from experience !
Great video for what your doing but as a fan of Whitesnake its a disservice in a way as in the origional version of Here I Go Again the guitar solo was played by a studio gun for hire. He appeared in the 1980s music video but not on tour. I love the 80s version of this song from WHITESNAKE.
The bass player has a great voice here too. His name is Marco Mendoza. Please check him out
Have watched some videos of Marco Mendoza trio, they are insane :)
My very first concert, 1988. Amazing vocalist. I really respect how you continue to be honest and real. Not the first video I've heard you sticking up for people that the masses seem to gang up on. That's unique these days. Please keep that up 👍
you need to react to Glenn Hughes "Coast to Coast" the Citta Club, Kawasaki, Japan version, is out of this planet
No she doesn’t. She will if she wants to.
Do Jorn Lande at some point. Jorn has a voice that falls between Coverdale and Dio.
But what song? He has such a vast discography. I love his masterplan phase. That Blackdog cover is better than the original
1987 unos de los mejores años de la historia del Hard rock, quién no podría amar estás canciones, solo una persona sin alma ni corazón o que no sepa apreciar la buena música, gracias muchísimas gracias, I LOVE YOU!!!!!!! REMERBER CRISTINA RAMOS and SHOW MUST GO ON GOT TALENT please I LOVE HARD ROCK, I LOVE HEAVY METAL, I LOVE YOU!!!!!!!
Starkers in Tokyo. Coverdales voice at its best, and every song showcases it.

Hi Beth, when Coverdale goes into that high falsetto scream, he reminds me of Glenn Hughes, when they worked together in Deep Purple, post Gillan and Glover... Have done one on Glenn Hughes yet? Loving your explanations of shape, space and placement... cheers (RAR!)
Absolutely
Whitesnakes 1987 album is one of the only hair metal albums I listen to.
