Something we also need to be giving slayyyter her flowers for is ACTUALLY WRITING GOOD BRIDGES, OR ANY BRIDGES AT ALL. It really does seem like pop songs are getting so short and it's bridges are the ones who get the short end of the stick to give more space to the chorus. Slayyyter however kills it with her bridges. Troubled Paradise, Out of time, Plastic, among others.
No for real. Starfucker def has great bridges, but I gotta bring up the troubled paradise long ass bridge. That was when I realized she's more than just this pop girlie making fun pop. Like her writing is next level. Even looking away from bridges, her wordplay is clever as hell. I noticed that while listening to venom.
Glad someone is reacting to this. The Erotic Electronic-Purrr-Plastic-Girl Like Me-Tear Me Open arc is the character experiencing mania. She’s on a self destructive path, but she’s so far gone that she doesn’t really see it. “Girl Like Me” is the euphoric high and “Tear Me Open” (which was the first song written for the album) is the comedown. One could say she’s allowing herself to be consumed by love or fame, to the point of her own demise. If you were to think of the album as the soundtrack to a film, then “Out of Time” would be the credits song that sums up the entire thing. Slayyyter was inspired by 80s/90s erotic thrillers, using long established genres such as French house, electroclash, synthwave, and Eastern European techno as its sonic backdrop. No hyperpop here 😇

This album is the musical definition of histrionic so to me the hyperpop section made complete sense because it was a sexy distraction from how vulnerable she was being. And then “Girl Like Me” was an overestimate of mutual feelings ( a sign of histrionic behavior) and “Tear me open” is her realization of the overestimate so it’s slow but not too slow (probably because it didn’t last long so she’s sad, but not Celine Dion all by myself sad) and “out of time” is the rebound song she’s back on the prowl he called her “angel”, now “angel eyes” is running out of time to find someone else to make her feel something Thanks for coming to my TED talk
I think after rhinestone heart, her vulnerabilities and problems exposed to herself, instead of trying to work on herself she instead doubles down and goes manic and hypersexual, she starts taking harder drugs, getting loads of plastic surgery etc. She starts to wind down a bit in Girl Like Me but she fully comes down in Tear Me Open
Tear me open really feels like she's throwing the towel and accepting her destructive lifestyle as a part of her and letting it consume her. And she says it with melancholy, like she kind of regrets it in the back of her head
Nice little fact about memories of you, the distorted vocals in the bridge are actually from the demo of the song where she sings it in French. You can hardly hear it in the final song but it's clear as day in the demo

Awesome reaction! I love this album, it's just banger after banger. There's Marina influence for sure. There's an interview with Variety where she talks about what kind of music she wanted to make: "I feel like I am my target audience. When I was in high school, I always loved the pop stars that were standing in gay spaces with the queer community. Me and my friends would go see Marina and the Diamonds and [I said] if I ever made music one day, that’s the kind of artist I would be like - someone that makes music for the clubs and queer spaces."
It really does seem like the pattern within the album. She gets vulnerable at times but it never goes past the point where the character actually starts to ponder about the raw depths aboyt themselves and try to change themselves. If anything it's like a deep descent into consumerism and addiction. Which imo is really fresh instead of just giving us a redemption arc like everyone else would try.
Rhinestone heart, my body, starfucker, miss belladona, dramatic are my Top 5! I love singing and Rhinestone heart and my body are really good songs to sing! Hope slayyyter reads this!
I will agree that Tear Me Open kinda doesn’t fit with the rest of the album as strongly as everything else. However, after listening it on its own, I liked it significantly better. Maybe just because I’ve already heard similar music from her, so it isn’t as shocking to me, but maybe it will grow on you.
I had already seen comments on the internet about Slayyyter, but in the last few weeks I started listening to her and my God, she singing Miss Belladonna live and vocalizing her voice at the beginning is surreal! I'm in love and I dream of a Kim Petras and Charli XCX feat ❤❤❤ So obsessed she’s so good
This is my fifth favorite album and purrr is my fave song of all time. It stole the spot from a tie between oblivion by grimes and a&w by lana. I'm sad its not getting the recognition it deserves. When it came out, after my first listen, I honestly expected slayyyter to blow up. It doesn't have a metacritic page. It doesn't have a pitchfork review. Its being talked about by music lovers, but not the average person.
If you’ve been interested Kylie’s new album is really excellent, I think you’d appreciate the extremely well done production particularly on atmospheric tracks like ‘Hold On To Now’. Love your channel!
i’ve also noticed with her albums and projects they tend to end on a sort of sad or somber type of sound. Her self titled mix type goes through falling in love and being ghosted at the end with “ghost”. Troubled paradise goes in and out of the same type of concept but more of a grieving steps side of losing someone. and it ends with “Letters” a song saying she’s still in love with whoever it was she’s singing about. And then with starfucker, she talks about everything toxic in Hollywood and how it can consume you but also at the same time how she’s trying to find love but gets too caught up in who she’s trying to be.

I know this is a loonngggg comment. sorry, but I understand what you mean with plastic and GLM, cause I used to think the same. But then I kinda re-heard the album as a Hollywood themed movie in way with different scenes in my head. And some how everything started falling into place. Especially the second half of the album. RH is the end of the first man the character cheated on her bf with. And then EE is like “I’m back in the club bitch I’m i wanna have seggs.” But we can tell she’s slowly descending into madness. Then purr is the character abusing rugs hard in the club and the production is harsher because it’s like “okay nooo this is wrong”. And it’s almost warning the character to stop. Then it ups the anti on plastic and this is where it starts to make sense as to why it could be where it is on the album maybe? Plastic’s production I feel like is there to encapsulate just how insane the character has become and the lyrics are contrasting and glamourising it in the characters eyes, but at the same time, the production is like deliberately super harsh and completely different because she’s out of touch with reality of the world created in the first half of the album. And it makes you think in hindsight the reason why the first half is similar is because despite the stuff going on then, there was a degree of normality in her world. But now, similar to purr but ten fold, it’s like we’re past the warnings now. It’s like the harshness is trying to evoke the listener to be like “OKAY GIRL STOP”. Alarm bells going off at this point basically. Then the build up in the end is like the character post surgery and she has an evil grin out of pure insanity because she thinks she’s found the cure for love and happiness. Then we have GLM. Believe it or not GLM at this point in the album is where I feel is most concerning. it’s like it cuts to the next scene from plastic and she meets someone else now that she looks different and they don’t know what they’re in for so it’s like all happy and rainbows, but the listener is now held hostage in this grim situation where we’ve just exhibited this character absolutely drop kick the fucking bucket. And it’s here you can almost feel the character break that 4th wall and it’s like an “evil look directly to the camera behind this new man’s back” moment. And then because of the so much baggage from the first half of the album, she just immediately opens up to to him in TMO and just falls apart because the character’s brain can’t physically do it anymore. It’s like she’s absolutely dead inside because she just refuses to learn her lesson. Also make sense why the song is just slow and kinda just like numbing almost. she’s so far gone at this point that she’s numb. Then OOT is like an outside perspective of it and it makes the character feel extremely small. Like an ending scene of a movie zooming out to reveal just how tiny she is in such a massive world and it’s like Slayyyter is the narrator or it could be a “6 months later. Let’s see how our old gal is doing. Oh she’s still the same-“ satirical “let’s make fun of this dumb woman” moment. But it still has the underlying darkness of actual death. lol
