  • Interior Designer Keith Baltimore redefines Art Deco design in a colorful, eclectic Murray Hill apartment in NYC. Keith wanted the home to recall the glamorous ocean liners of that time and the home is filled with decadent yet delicate shapes and colors, textures and materials of that bygone era.

Im trying to Art Deco my room, and I have been seeing this type of videos for a while and none give me the feeling I get with old pictures of Art Deco and Streamline Moderne rooms that make me want to go back in time. I looks like a convoluted mess to be honest, what I have learned from these videos is that you CANNOT use a decorator to do this kind of thing, you have to research, learn and do it yourself, as I think none of these decorators know, love or respect the real Art Deco movement, what is this crap with the zebra patterns and skull cushions, lord help me!

The designer managed to turn a potentially sophisticated theme into a kitschy incoherent mess. No sense of calm or restraint. Yes, he "redefined Art Deco design" and it didn't turn out well. Take a look at authentic Art Deco interiors of the period...so much better!! Whether minimalist or opulent, they were cohesive in their design.

The skull throw pillows are unforgivable. Lose the stripped "awnings."The details are otherwise appropriate, but the rooms somehow do not congeal. The sofa is right out of the 60s.

Is this a nice space? Yes! But is it Art Deco? Not really. I feel it's more a clash of many different styles, probably because of the color pallet he started with (the wall color is one that wasn't really used in that era) and then trying to collide the cruise ship feel with upscale NYC apartment with Art Deco. I feel like the Art Deco style was an after thought somewhat thrown in but to say that that was the main inspiration is an over statement. Art Deco was about elegance and glamour but that aspect was fully missed in this space.

I feel like this missed the art deco glam of the 20s. I see the influence but there are too many tacky motifs that were not of that era. It just looks gaudy. Skull pillow? no. no no. Where's the velvet? Add some gold and green.

I liked it has a timeless feel, well except for the kitchen cabinets.

So gorgeous, except blue is definitely not an Art Deco colour and that is the only thing that jarred slightly with me. The whole point of Art Deco is that it must always look a if you are expecting fabulous guests and a party to break out any minute. And no party breaks out between pale blue walls. Otherwise it's simply divine darling...

This isnt really art deco. Its more like he took the 1950's art deco revival and tehn combined that with the 1980's revival and further combined that with the trashy gaudiness of mid late 2000s. Like Ed Hardy clothing had a baby with the movie Back to the Future. I only see a few pieces that represent 1920's Art Deco.

This is what you get if you throw too much money to a designer without a sense of restraint nor balance. Every object, every wall, every floor screaming for attention. An attack on one's nervous system.

Finally ! A place with a good look. I live for Art Deco! But it's soooooo expensive. 5k for an ash tray, 50k for Art Deco chairs. But I love Art Deco

:/ feels like an OLD styled hotel, and not in a good way. The place blue walls and the red accents do nothing for that place :(

This place is GORGEOUS and is perfectly done! The Designer has impeccable taste and did a fabulous job. All the rest of the comments criticizing it are stupid beyond belief. You people wouldn't know good taste if it slapped you across the face, HARD.
