- Black Canyon Lake is a difficult, off-trail destination in the Beartooth Mountains of Montana. It is one of the most eye-catching alpine lakes in the mountain range and definitely worth the effort for any adventure-seeker. Be prepared for an easy stroll along the mesmerizing Rock Creek. The real fun begins after peeling off into the woods for some wonderful bushwhacking. Continue on through the labyrinth of falling trees to the never ending boulder field. Do not to give up. Use the energy from the thousand foot vistas that surround you in order to power your up to the glorious view that awaits. This hike is rugged with route finding but that helps to keep this lake quiet and pristine.

Great video man! Do you film and edit professionally. The video quality of this is off the charts. Thanks for sharing and Merry Christmas. 🎄
Wow! Thanks for that comment😳! I may have an obsession 😉, you have a Merry Christmas as well! I am working on starting my own videography business but my daytime job is getting in the way.
@@TheMountainMattI went on that trail once and you could just feel the elevation changing.
@@TheMountainMattby the way, the RNC copying isn't actually really hard if you plan it out right
Dear my friend. It's really beautiful. I want to travel there.😍👍
Thank you very much for sharing this great video. Have a nice Sunday and see you again.🌹
Thank you very much😁
Some breath taking views Matt. Stay safe there my friend. LIKE #20. 👍👍👍
Thanks!
Merry Christmas to you & the family! Awesome hard hike! Character building is correct! The girls will thank you for it all later!
Thanks Jay! I’m glad you’re a part of this👍🏼. You have a great Christmas 🎄!
It's a long hike but looks like fun 😁 happy hiking
Somehow it’s always worth it 👍🏼
Great job to your girls. That was one tough hike. But so beautiful.
It was never ending but huge views 😳. Hopefully they keep hiking with me after that one😉. Merry Christmas 🎄 !
Man, I live in Billings and I'm not sure if I'm aloud to live any further away from the mountains of Montana. I tried SoCal for a bit and Palomar, San Jacinto, the San Gabriel's and all those were cool. Seeing the Ocean from Palomar is a moment I'll never forget. But there is just something magical and alien about being up in the Beartooths. Where there is permafrost and Glaciers even though I left Billings where it was 90° only an hour and a half ago. Plus, not a whole lot of places where you can drive to over 2 miles high in your car. It's great for people who are less of the outdoors type. Actually, the view from the Beartooth highway is a great gateway to get people who don't hike to go with you after they see that veiw from the top of the highway, but can see that there are still higher mountains around them. Sorry for rambling, I just love my home. All of it. Even Makoshika. Even the Bull Mountains.
We’re in Glacier right now actually 😁👍🏼… I’ll be moving out here eventually! Best state in the Union!
Wow amazing views .looks so pretty. Thank you for sharing
Thank you for watching😁
Beautiful hike, strong ladies there! Merry Christmas thanks for the video!
I’m a lucky Dad 😁thank you!

Thank you 😊
Beautiful footage and great job girls! Start them young, when they're older they will most certainly thank you for the path you set them on!
Thank you! I am surely blessed 😁 Merry Christmas 🎄!
Just beautiful ♡ what a wonderful place to hike and enjoy outside. That elevation gain!! Happy Holidays!
It was a beast of a hike that’s for sure. Have you ever been to Montana with the family yet? Merry Christmas to y’all as well🎄
Oh, God, the bolder sealed is just brutal, there's a goat trail, you can go up and you can also just rock hop to the top both of which are brutal.
That was a long afternoon and the girls first boulder hopping experience. It took forever 🤣
Incredible scenery!! Those views by the Lake was awesome . 👍👍
Thank you 🙏🏼
No video of the bushwacking? Dude! Love the vid....love the scenerey...love the persistance!
Thanks Jon! You’d love that trial 👍🏼. It was so thick with fallen trees and uphill before the boulder field I couldn’t record much. Lola took a tree branch to the head pretty good 😬. The boss made me put away the camera for awhile after that. That would be a great area to backpack👍🏼
@@TheMountainMatt Yowzers! Have done some 'off roading' before but not with the same end views! As my wife isn't too keen on backpack camping, will have to save that to a wish list...
@@jonschmidt1709 I know how you feel... I have to beg my son and brother to hike big dogs that I want to do.
I knew you guys could do it, awesome hike!
That was a big accomplishment for how young our girls were back then 😀… can’t believe that was 4 or 5 years ago now! Cheers!
@@TheMountainMatt heading that way in about 10 days to Cooke City for Yellowstone and was looking for some short hikes but everything looks like a half day to full day hike.
@@user-qc7hr4my7r woody falls, sheep creek falls, bridal falls and silver falls are all short hikes and right in or near Cooke City 👍🏼 we did each of them in a half day when we were there. All decent quick beautiful trails 👍🏼
@@TheMountainMatt thanks man!
Awesome video. That hike looks amazing. I especially like your wife’s review at the end.
You two would love that one Jerry👍🏼

Dang 15 miler?!? That’s legit! That Boulder field was intense and impressive y’all all were able to knock it out. Well done. “Favorite part is the car”...😂 been there!
Longest Boulder field ever😳... felt like it was never going to end. It’s always worth it when you done 😁👍🏼 thanks!
God sure is a artist! Absolutely amazing! I need to do this😭
He is perfect 👍🏼 that hike is a beast but a must do if you’re able💪🏼😁
Hey Matt. Lost lake looks like a beautiful place to hike and I love that you have your girls doing it so young. I wish I had become a hiker before 54 years old. Hikes like it was a challenge. I loved it when she said you all almost fell off the mountain. I have felt that way a few times lol Happy New Year!
Thanks Kathy! I hope you had a wonderful trip😁what was your favorite part of your trip?
@@TheMountainMatt I don't think I can pick my favorite part. I think I would have to say not being on a time frame was the best. I could do whatever I wanted and explore the places I wanted to and not be rushed.
Great stuff....that was amazing!
And I agree, wished i had hiked more as a kid. I did hike, but I realized that it would have taken parents and leaders a lot more time to do so more often. Greatful for what they gave. Our children will appreciate it more when they are older....at least I hope. 😋
Merry Christmas to you and your family.
Hopefully we're instilling in them love for God's creation 👍🏻. You're close to mountains, where are you located again?
@@TheMountainMatt Yes, all around us. I'm in Los Angeles County....the San Fernando Valley more specifically.
@@ColemanOutdoors nice I got a brother just south of you in Carlsbad. Merry Christmas to you as well!
@@TheMountainMatt oh man...that's gorgeous down there anywhere in that surrounding San Diego area. Hope you've gotten a chance to hike some of those local peaks when you're down to visit him. And thanks, buddy!
This is a nice video and a great channel. 👌 I'll see you my friend.✋ Bye for now. Best regards and have a nice weekend.😊
Thank you very much!
Phenomenal hike! Another great one. We All watched it together. 👍Love the views. 😍 I told my boys we need to do longer hikes. Cool boulder scramble. Another well done video. 💪 What camera was this on?
Thanks brotha man! My sugar momma let me get a GH5 with two juicy lenses😁. Somehow the girls keep going on these monster hikes with us😬. Keep pushing them right!
Great video! How tough was navigating that boulder field and what resources did you use to plan for it?
Thank you. The boulder field was at a minimum 100 yards with some good elevation to boot. When you come out of the woods and you start to see the field stay to the middle right of the canyon. To far left was much worse. I’d stay to the middle as much as possible. To far to the right will eventually put you on a VERY steep cliff. I use AllTrails app and downloaded somebody else’s map and followed that, along with reading other people’s reviews. You probably can find me on AllTrails and download the recording I used to get to the lake. I love the app! Only once did I get a bad downloaded map. Let me know if I can help with anything else👍🏼. That trail is looooong but the payoff is great! Try to get there ASAP before the thunderstorms so you can enjoy it longer than we did.
Finally reservoir crayfish are abundant it’s historically low in nutrients because of fire and ash managed as put grow take fishery department catchable rain bow trout in spring early summer
Where are you located ?
@@TheMountainMatt iam from Saudi Arabia eastern province near Kuwait The internet makes us as overseas students or tourists around world in 24hours is it
I lost that game trail on the way up and had to completely bush wack. Got to the lake though
I loved that hike, minus the bushwacking 🤣 I wish we could have enjoyed it longer! Glad to hear that you made it all the way Tim 👍🏼. How did you like that never ending boulder field? It seemed like forever because the girls were so young then 😂 cheers Tim!
