Too bad about the cooker but if everyone is safe then it’s just a thing. If you’re renovating or especially restoring a property, you can be sure unexpected expenses will come up. Just give yourself a break and write it off. Y’all have a beautiful property to bring back to life….that’s a blessing.

Sorry about the stove mishap! I would take it as a sign, and reconsider the heat pump, using a ductless system. You will never regret it having A/C in the summer. If France has rebates that helps! I have a wood insert in my house and had to put a vent in an exterior wall (for code) because of the carbon monoxide risk. An induction cooktop would be sleek, and as quick as a gas stove for cooking; it would look great with your beautiful stone sink for that modern/rustic look. Just suggestions, of course, since it's your wonderful French life!!! Enjoying your vlogs!

I second the suggestion of a heat pump and electric cook top, with a wood stove for backup/ambiance heating.

I wanted to say there are good wood stoves sell (and manufactured) in France.and with good prices. They deliver and install the stove if you want to. (Sorry for the mistakes, I am an old French lady)

I am so sorry to hear about the stove! My guess is a new Esse would cost less than what this has taken so far (with purchase, gas, time, lift-rental etc) then...repair. Oh, how the best-laid plans can (and will) go awry! I hope the rest is a bit smoother! (Come on, Esse....help these guys out and sponsor them...with a nice gift of a new stove!)

I'm sorry you had a bad experience with the stove. Best of luck with it. I have plans to go to The Reclamation Yard too soon! It looks amazing and isn't too far from us. We transformed an old table into a kitchen sink unit and I had the same plan as you, to raise it up with salvaged furniture legs. It's funny how most of the time they're found only in pairs! I had to do a lot of rummaging about to find four the same. I'm really enjoying your videos. Thanks for sharing!

If you are up in that area, The Reclamation Yard is absolutely worth a drive. It is a little far for us but if we lived nearby, we would haunt the place! Thanks for the kind words and for watching!

You are absolutely correct, safety first, moving it and/or using it...must be safe. Watching the segment about 20 times, at least some of the cracks seem to be there before any of your straps touched it. But none the less... I feel your pain, we purchased a 1925 gas cook stove back in the day for a bargain and when we got it home, it wasn't what we had hoped it would be. What did we tell ourselves?...ha ha ha...C'est la vie! In the end we got a stove we liked even more and called it all a happy accident...hope this happens for you too!
