I have noticed after 4,5 years of smoking that the up and down motion is something you do to finish up. Keeping it in there for 20 seconds really changes the amount of butane in the lighter. With just the up and down motion, my lighter lit up to 10 cigars. If I also did the 20 second wait, I could light up 20 cigars. For reference, this is with my Colibri EVO lighter. That thing still works like new after 4,5 years.
One piece of advice I read only once is wait for the lighter to chill out before lighting it. I have a Zippo torch lighter, which I carry in the tiny pocket above the right hand side pocket in my jeans, and one week I became enraged with it. I couldn't get it to light up properly at all. Couldn't purge it nicely or refill it completely. At some point I thought I must do something to make the gas in it as liquid and compact as possible to purge it better and make room for more gas. I put it in the freezer compartment in my fridge, and it worked like new. I take it out of my pocket long before refilling it every time now, or put it in the freezer if I'm in a rush. It made all the difference to me. Most videos emphasise the importance of letting it warm up again after refilling it, but rarely talk much about making it cold again before you purge and refill it.
Yayyyyyy!! After failing too many times and getting frustrated with myself went to UA-cam for a video help. I got it now! Thanks for the help and technique 🔥🔥
I think Xikar black tops are the best, and the silver tops 2nd, also I shake the butane for about 10 secs, then fill it us. I read shaking the butane can mix the propellant and butane, but I guess you really never know. Great post, thanks for sharing.
Do you have a video for properly placing nozzle adapters? I haven't ever bothered with trying to refill a "disposable" butane lighter before but bought a can of butane that has different attachments but am finding the adapter wobbles on the nozzle
I love watching your videos they are helpful on choosing the right cigars and how to light them the right way and makes me want to start trying different flavors and ones
Thanks for these videos, being new, it was really helpful. But, do you need to purge EVERY time. Let’s say I’m heading out to the course and I want to top it off. Is this a bad idea?
If lighters have the same temperature of your butane can, you will notice that the gas will not go into the lighter a simple fix is to put your lighter inside a freezer for about 15 minutes come back and the differential in temperature will allow the gas to quickly go in, give it a shot. It works beautifully every time.
Okay so I’ll blow your minds, leave the lighter in the freezer for about 20 until it’s cold and that will attach the liquid butane rather than gas which means liquid is pulled in rather than gas forcing it’s way in
Everything is about transfering liquid to low pressure. If you have little butane left on the refiller, Even if its just gas, put the lighter in the freezer few minutes so u get negative pressure and warm the butane cylinder with your hands
Thanks for sharing that! This really piqued my brain, how interesting. My next step now that I’m officiallyfull send into an ADHD hyperfocus, now onto butane gas properties. It is endothermic as I can see and wonder why I’ve never learned how to treat this gas during fueling….🤦🏾♂️Certainly overlooked by me.
You should technically be purging it too, as air pockets will become trapped in there, lessening your fuel capacity, and making your lighter burn rough.

@@EllieRoshawn you won’t hurt yourself at all. Just make sure you pinch the valve first to release whatever pressure is left in the reservoir b4 you fill it up.
Make sure you press the butane can all the way down into a lighter. If you only press it halfway the butane will spill out instead of filling the lighter
There is no good reason for what he is doing and it’s shocking he even made this video. Purge the lighter first, shake up your butane can to create pressure. Hold it upside down and push down for about 5 seconds. If you need to keep pushing down and gently shake so the fuel can warm up. Warming up the fluid creates more pressure so it will fill correctly. Then your done
@@BmwolotlE90 In that case what you can do is fill the lighter, and then release and reinsert the butane can a few times. When you see butane starting to spit out that means the lighter is full and can't accept any more fuel.
Yes buy a reputable brand I don’t suggest what he is using since it has too much propane in it and can kill the seals! I’d recommend vector 14x since it has less propane to butane ratio and works well in the colder months.
Have you tried turning the flame up or down? If nothing seems to be working and it's a brand new lighter try taking it back to where you bought it and maybe they will replace it for you.
There's a sweet spot for when applying pressure. Find that sweet spot and hold the butane refill still! Like putting air in a car tire. I can pretty much guarantee I've gone thru more cans of butane than the guy that made this video. I've never once had to move the butane refill bottles and I have definitely never ever had to "warm" the torch after refilling. All that extra stuff he's doing is because cigar smokers sit around so much that they gotta fidget with things.
@@GanjaBreadman I’ve been in the premium cigar industry for almost 30 years. I’ve filled & fixed more butane lighters than you could in 3 lifetimes. You can do it your way. I’m showing people what gets the job done properly. By the way, you are also incorrect about letting the lighter warm first. That’s common knowledge to people that are actually in the cigar industry. A cold butane lighter will misfire. Just ask the people that live in cold parts of the country.
Most times when people bring a lighter back & tell me it’s not working is because they just held the can probably not in that “sweet spot” you speak of. If it works it works. There is absolutely no harm in manipulating the can to get the lighter to accept the fuel better. You’re being critical just for the sake of being critical. Thanks for your input but I’ll stick to what I know works.
I’m absolutely horrified to see the amount of people who didn’t know how to do it. But then again men forgot how to dress like men so I guess someone needs to show them how 😊

Also if it's a new lighter remember to adjust the flame. I recieved my lighter with the gas on low and it wouldn't light properly.

Is it ok if some of the butane spits out when filling it

We have a video on that. We don't recommend it unless you buy a butane insert for a zippo and use that.

Why does no one show or tell us how we know if it's full or not, especially if it's a closed device and can't see the tank
