    Hey, thanks for this great tutorial on replacing the scales. I just bought the Redoubt and AWT scales. This is my first Benchmade! I'm now subscribed and looking forward to watching more of your content. Thanks again!

    The Redoubt seems like it would be such a great knife.
    I sharpen one pretty regularly for a local guy, and the D2 is great. It deburrs effortlessly and takes a nice sticky edge. He beats the hell out of it, but ive never seen anything worst than small rolls in the edge.
    I assume since you're putting the money into yours, it sees a good bit of use/carry?
    Edit: Have you ever tried using graphite from a pencil on washers? Thats been my favorite for quite a while, now.

      Agreed seems like a really nice knife! At least after putting some decent scales on it. I'm looking forward to sharpening it, all I have done so far is a quick micro bevel touch-up because the factory edge was garbage.
      I have not tried graphite, but I do have some dry graphite powder coming in the next few days. I plan to see if it helps lock stick, but that's a cool idea about using in the pivot as well. I'll try it!

      Using it for lock stick is what initially gave me the idea to use it on the washers!
      On two of my favorite knives (the Stedemon Frida, and AG Russell Acies) there's such a huge contact area between the titanium lockbar and tang of the blade so the lock stick can get ridiculously bad.
      Just a little scribble at the contact point with a pencil and it completely eliminates lock stick, and doesn't seem to wear off like sharpie does.

    Good detailed and informative instruction. My only concern is with the actual AWT scales; once this work is done you no longer have a Redoubt but a knife that looks like so, so many others. Do you think there will be any other scale offerings that better maintain the handle shape and structure of the Redoubt? For the cost of the scales I could just buy another knife that looks like this. Another words, I feel like this just makes a different knife and doesn't improve any of the perceived the shortcomings of the Redoubts' textured grip. Which I actually work well for grip, gloves and staying in my pocket after hastily sticking it in. Thanks and cheers

      Well, in my opinion the shortcomings of the handle are the fact they are plastic and overly textured, so for me these scales absolutely fix that. I'm not sure I agree they make it look like so many other knives, as it really is not an original design to begin with. Other than the somewhat interesting handle construction. At any rate, these scales have plenty of traction imo and I really don't think you'd have issues using the knife with gloves.
      Thanks for watching 🙏

      I actually carried the redoubt stock for months and although it’s lighter the plastic got alot of little gouges and scrapes . I put the awt scales and its adds some weight but the grip and ergonomics are day and night so I put a benchmade deep carry and bam sick knife for any task. I now they do coat a lot but they do help . Got a pair for my spyderco lw in s90v tank of small knife now .

      I agree with you joe. The whole point of the Redoubt design is to combine the lightweight crossbar lock + the big-but-lightweight scales. People hate on grivory but the scales on the Redoubt have a lot of professional love put into them that is not common with FRN/GRN. It's a genuinely interesting (though overlooked) knife design that tries to merge the Griptilian and Presidio.
      With AWT scales, it looks like every other AWT modified knife. It handles like every generic folding knife. It weighs more (now entering into the 4+ oz realm). It's more slippery, less glove-friendly, no longer weatherproof, less impact resistant. It just looks a bit more sleek and is nicer to a bare hand. Meanwhile you are in the hole $270+ and could be just buying a knife with better steel+better scales out the box. Heck an Adamas is like $290.

      I do mostly agree with you, although I don't personally like the Grivory handle, it is very meticulously designed. I believe I mention that when I first take it apart. However, that doesn't make it any less uncomfortable to the ungloved hand.
      AWT scales add 0.7oz, a bit, but nothing crazy. It still feels very light. And I wouldn't say they're very much less grippy. With the matte finish and scalloping you get pretty good traction. How exactly would the aluminum be less weather proof? How would it be less impact resistant?
      I do 100% agree it gets expensive with these mods and more comes into the Adamas territory, but the Redoubt blade is much better than the Adamas (actually can cut things) and I believe it's still lighter, or at least a better size/weight ratio.
      Thanks for watching and commenting!

    How much did the AWT scales and pocket clip add to the cost of the Redoubt…???

    • @NocturneKnives
      @NocturneKnives  10 місяців тому +1

      The scales were around 50 because they were blems, and I think the clip was $22 or so

      @@NocturneKnives I thought you would have put some grease in the pivot hole on the blade where the pin passes through it

    • @NocturneKnives
      @NocturneKnives  3 місяці тому

      I believe I put some on the pivot pin itself. Not sure if that's showed clearly in the video though
