You two are so perfectly suited, Tim is an excellent handy/DIY genius partly cos of his background I know and Jenn you are a total chef even though you say you're not. Hey Tim and Jenn, I had to search a while to find this video. I watched it a good long time ago. But just recently, my daughter decided to order this same Hello Fresh, and so we have recently tried it out. We ordered the three meal plan, which is just enough for two people. But for the first box, my wife was working days, so she was home to eat with my daughter and I. We had to share it all in threes, so that cut down our portions considerably. But the food itself was delicious! We fully enjoyed the food selections that we picked. We just received our 3rd box today, the day I am typing this. I do the cooking here, and I create my own dishes. But we really enjoyed this Hello Fresh. But I see that Hello Fresh has changed their packing method. Now, the boxes are packed with the meats between the ice packs like yall's were, but the other ingredients for each meal, are now in heavy duty paper sacks with a seal over the fold of the bags. They are not putting the stuff in smaller boxes as yall's were in this video. They also wrap the inside of the box with a type of packing cotton substance in a plastic wrap, around the circumference of the box. I guess this helps to hold in the cold better like an insulation wrap. Are yall still ordering Hello Fresh or possibly Blue Apron? We haven't used Blue Apron yet. I need to know if they are as good as Hello Fresh, better, or not as good. What do yall think?

    Im someone who's very familiar with asian flavors and I gotta say, thats a lot of ginger. In regards to the sugar, it is there for the 4 basic tastes: Sweet, Sour, Bitter and Salty. Those are present in almost every asian dish. Hope this inspired you guys to cook! There are so many beautiful fresh products out there, the world is a playground.

    So glad you guys decided to join, because I'm looking forward to seeing the Classic Boxes since we did the Veggie box! I made the Gnocchi before I left for the beach and it was sooooooo good! And just got to the part where Jenn said she saw my picture. LULZ. I hope the Classic Box is as good! The stir-fry looked delicious - I will say that out of the 8 recipes I've made, most were pretty clear but I had one that was an absolute bear and as a result it's the only meal I didn't really enjoy, thanks to the stress of making it. Hopefully the rest of the recipes from this box are better for you!

    Now that you have done the meal you have your receipt and you can shop accordingly. The meals are great. Sometimes you might get one you don't like but with experience you can adjust during cooking. As Julia would say, "Bon Appetite".

    I have a hello fresh subscription box! First, everything I have eaten has been very good but if you're like me and like to eat out every couple of nights, you CAN pause the deliveries. 👍🏻 I've been pausing it a lot lately because of all the summer BBQ's. 🍔🌭🌽 I'll probably go back to the subscription after Labor Day. 🤔 Also, I suggest reading the recipe before you start to cook. I read the recipe and re-write it out step by step 🤓 so you can have a better idea of your prep time and cooking time. Hope that helps!! Oh and I do 3 boxes a week. 🙃

    • @TheTimTracker

      Rewriting them out sounds like a brilliant idea! The wording is so strange on them. Like step two is "meanwhile prep your vegetables" and I'm sitting there thinking "meanwhile"?!? Why not just tell us to prep them first! lol!

  • @andrewpinks3678
    @andrewpinks3678 8 років тому

    When quartering the bok choy you don't need to cut the bottom off, just trim any tatty bits (bok choy quarters then hold together). For stir fry cooking get the wok really hot before you add your oil (heat the wok not the oil) and oil should be near to smoking so meat seals immediately and vegetables cook super fast.

  • @TC-fx1tq
    @TC-fx1tq 8 років тому

    We do Hello Fresh, too! Their produce and meats are always top notch, but, I find the way the recipes are laid out to be confusing. The steps kinda run into each other! So I read the whole recipe, then prep everything, then go step by step. It gets easier once you get the hang of how they lay out their instructions. Enjoy!!

  • @caramcilwaine3468
    @caramcilwaine3468 8 років тому

    A friend recommended Hello Fresh and we've done it for several months, and I like the way it comes better, but I'm currently doing Blue Apron, as the menus are more interesting in some ways (and it's a little cheaper). It is smart to see what produce looks like it needs to be used first, or obviously if you have a fish or shrimp dish, that's the one to do first. Enjoy.

  • @phr00tsnax

    Oh just a tip! Make sure you read the directions carefully. Hello Fresh tends to give you more then you need. Sometimes they'll give you a teeny jar of soy sauce but you'll only use a 1/2 tsp. If you miss the directions you might pour in the whole thing and end up with a super salty dish 😱

    Just a warning about Hello Fresh. I thought everything was perfectly portioned but it is not! Sometimes a seasoning might call for 1/2 teaspoon and they give you a full teaspoon. Another time, I needed 7 tablespoons of coconut milk and I got an entire can of coconut milk! The seasoning packets will tell you how much seasoning is in it but it might be more than the recipe calls for. So, don't mess up a recipe like I did by thinking it is all perfectly measured and double check the recipe and the seasoning packet to make sure they match up!

      Also, another company I have been looking into is called Blue Apron. Same exact concept but their recipes they offer both in paper in the box and online. The online version includes videos that show you step by step how to do the funky things you might not be used to doing. The Hello Fresh recipes could be a little more clear in this regard.

    I've tried both Hello Fresh and Blue Apron and I ran into the same problem. The directions are very haphazard for both of them. You pretty much just have to read the whole thing and do like ten separate things at the same time, otherwise you'll end up making a 25-30 minute meal turn into an hour or more. Anyway, y'all are awesome!!!

    We had hello fresh for a few weeks, the food was good but it never got fun cooking it. It's a lot of work and the way they read, it's not very step by step friendly. Also we got the 4 meal plan and some of our food went bad and we had to go out and buy some of the ingredients. The 2nd box we got had a recall on some of the food and we didn't get the email until after we ate it, we were so upset because we have a 10 month old who eats with us, customer service had no idea of the recall but gave us a refund for one meal. We kept calling to find out more and found out that some of the food is Shipt from Texas and some from New Jersey and that most of the food is frozen before its sent. So it wasn't as fresh as we thought it also wasn't enough food and we canceld. I hope you have better luck.

    Cooking becomes more fun when you invest in a decent set of knives and a plastic cutting board
    I suggest getting an 8 in. chef's knife, a long serrated knife, and a pairing knife. To maintain the knives, you must have a sharpening tool and a honing steel. The honing steel corrects the blade and keeps the knife in good shape, and it should be used every time you are about to use the knife. The knife sharpener creates a whole new edge on the knife. However, a sharpener should only be used once or twice a year, because it wears away the edge, and will render the knife useless if used too frequently.
    The plastic cutting board is important if you're cutting raw meats. Plastic is less porous so no bacteria from the meat will soak into the board. Plastic is also good for fruit as well because plastic doesn't absorb as many flavors as wood does.

    • @TheTimTracker
      @TheTimTracker  8 років тому

      We have a plastic cutting board, it just isn't as big as that wood one so we use the wood one for vegetables because there are always way more of them than meats. We do use the plastic one for meat though.

      I'm not sure, this was $99 for 5 meals. We got $40 off because we used our friends code. So 5 meals for 2 people for $60. $6 a serving isn't too bad. But $10 per serving isn't too bad either. I'm going to have to do some research at the store to see if we saved any money or not.

      lol! We didn't even see that it was you that said it. We just saw it go by and wanted to put that little disclaimer in there because it isn't the first time people have thought that we get stuff for free. It stinks when we work so hard to earn money to have nice things and people think we are freeloading. But we know you are just joking. :-)

    I hate to be hipster but... the reason why the record player doesn't sound great is because you're using a Crosley.

      Maybe because you are a good cook, so am I. i thnk they said it isn't their fav. to do. I think this product is good for ppl who want to feel like they have made something great and actually not know or care how to cook.

    So hang on they "supply everything you need" ....except for some of the stuff you need. Keeps THEIR costs down - whilst ensuring to never pass on those savings to you. Usual story!

      Basically take 2 slices of pizza put the cheese side together, throw in the waffle iron for a cycle, and blaaam all crispy and such.

      What do you mean by sponsor? Like someone who pays us to vlog? UA-cam pays us.

  • @WondersChannel
    @WondersChannel 8 років тому

    No one accuses ME of sponsorship when I review tons of stuff from Tesco. This is because I have ever so slightly less subscribers than you 2 :P
