This video brought back memories. As a child born in Shrewsbury in the sixties, my parents ran The London Apprentice pub in Coton Hill (now flats in it's place) the river used to come all along the pub carpark and I couldn't get to school. I no longer live here, it's crazy this is still happening. Great Video well done.
When will Shrewsbury just get and trench out the river so its deeper and stops this happing year after year... flood defence has only pushed the volume of water to other places now and protected the council building.. 🙄 Lovely bit of footage to display how bad it gets too thanks 👍
Bottom of the cop, I remember in 1963 walking on duck boards from the English bridge to the bottom of the cop, even though it’s bad I’ve seen it worse.
63 is before my time but I do remember walking over duck boards at Frankwell, maybe in 2000. I don't think the levels were as high then either so it proves the flood defences do work, in that area at least.
Most of the old buildings are above the flood line. Perhaps they were a bit more savvy about floods?! The ones that do flood have seen worse and survived.
Glad you liked it. I'm just starting my UA-cam 'journey' almost everything filmed so far has been on a GoPro 7 Black either at 1082 or 2.7K with HyperSmooth Stabilization on.
I live at the north end of Underdale Road, and the whole field behind my house was just… gone. I flew over the town on Wednesday and the whole place was almost unrecognisable! I have photos
Isn't it amazing how quickly the place can change and how quickly the water levels drop again! You could post some pics on the various Shrewsbury FB pages.
See the next vid I posted on my channel. It shows how quickly the water goes down. Of course for those who have had their homes inundated the clear up and trauma lasts a lot longer.
Nice Nisei man.. I live in town and this year didn't properly look around? So good to see your videos. You were Literally running around.. did you get strange looks at times?
Yes I was literally running around. The most pleasant running routes around town are through the green spaces, and most of those have only survived and not been built on due to the fact they flood. So when the waters rise I have to find other routes. I do sometimes get strange looks, but running is becoming a bit more normal.
I always come into town over the Welsh bridge it's the highest I have seen it in a long time but it's going to get worse.. I hope not but I'm just being realistic
Yes, the consensus is that things are only likely to be getting worse. Personally I try my best not to add to the climate problem so most of my little adventures are from the front door, use public transport, or are combined with other journeys.
'Funny' isn't quite the word I would use, but I know what you mean. They're still building near streams, rivers and ponds in and around Shrewsbury so I wouldn't be surprised if I'm not adding more areas the next time I go round documenting the floods here!
well - it's not going to be such an unusual thing. since covid restrictions lifted two houses in nearby streets have turned their front lawn over to tarmac for their cars - so that's loss of habitat, adding to global warming and creating run-off. Another has ripped up 30 ft of traditional farm type hedgerow and replaced it with wooden fence paneling which Eunice tried her best with - maybe next time!
Wow. I live in Shrewsbury (monkmoor) and i never even knew about this. I don't go into the town centre very often, especially in Jan, Feb.
Thank you for showing us Robin. Hope the flooding is starting to subside.

Glad it gave you a chance to reminisce... and that you liked the video. Thanks!
Glad i'm not living in Shrewsbury anymore. I've been in Colombia for 6 months now and haven't even seen rain this year. Loving it
How many more floods can Shrewsbury stand? Has the council not got a contingency plan? Must be a nightmare to get insurance in the town centre.
The contingency plan is a bypass, which for some reason many locals voted against. I think people in Shrewsbury like the drama
@@AlphaG-b6v 🤣 it's their funeral I suppose
you got into my recommendations well done man
Wow, thanks!
Best film of this flooding, hope to see more informative content next time it happens
Glad you liked it.

Because our council don't want to do anything for the town 😂
@@jamesriverboat9956 it would seem that way wouldn't it...?
Wow, you were in my recommendations. I didn’t even know this happened
I'm only just starting on UA-cam I'm not sure how most things happen! I hope you enjoyed the video.

Very interesting,I am in Australia,it is flooding very bad here.
Take care.
Thank you for the video
My pleasure, glad you liked it.
Thanks for posting, much worse than 2020 . I didn't see this in person because I got stranded in Wales due to train cancellations and flooded roads .
Yes, there was a lot of disruption.
good record. Thanks.
Glad you enjoyed it
Beautiful tudor buildings.
Yes, we're very lucky to have such architecture in Shrewsbury. I never take it for granted.
Oh wow, is that where we walked, down near the weir?
Yep! I guess there's somewhere around 6 foot of water over that path now. The weir has disappeared under the torrent of flood water!
Brilliant video, but very sad.
Glad you liked it. Unfortunately the forecasts are that it is only going to get worse as we start feeling the impacts of climate change.
Oh no those beautiful ancient buildings.
Most of the old buildings are above the flood line. Perhaps they were a bit more savvy about floods?! The ones that do flood have seen worse and survived.
Great video and editing & channel just wondering what gimbal did you use 👌

Didn’t ask g
Haven't been to/through Shrewsbury for nearly 30 years. Great video but a bit too much River Severn...as in too much water.
Glad you liked it.
Myself and my husband was staying in weatherspoons hotel when it happened and our car got trap in public car park behind primak 😩
Oh no, did the car survive?
So sorry..how are things now?

2:09 if this was the Tuesday and you put your bike on a post just to the right, then I was standing right next to you on your left......small world
Looking at the footage you turned to the left so maybe....I was behind you a bit on the right.
It was on Tuesday 22nd Feb. But I didn't have a bike I was running, so I'd have been in shorts.

@@robinmager fair play to you.. We are lucky in the areas we have but the river etc. Keep on running 😂👍
The fact that this happens every year and it seems to be getting worse everytime

A very small taste of what our immediate future holds on a regular basis.

Heard nothing of this such a shame
We build near rivers then them places get flooded too funny!

I used to live in Shrewsbury boring place.
Not for everyone I know but we love it 😊
It has its moments! The more you look the more you can find.
A place is what you make it… i guess it depends how boring you are 🤔
