Johnny was always for the "little man", the disadvantaged, poor, undereducated and of course those in desperate need of a second chance. Not only a great artist but one who talked the talk and walked the walk. Beautiful.
When Johnny speaks, people listen, and you could take his word to the bank. Look at the rapt attention and expressions of hope and appreciation on the young faces in the audience. We need more of that in these cynical days.
When you said said about Johnny Cash reminded me of when my boys would start arguing I would put on Johnny Cash and it would stop! When I hear Johnny, my mind goes to my son now in their 20s.
I watched this on tv as a kid. Vietnam, Civil rights, Poverty, Veterans coming back with heroin addiction. Conservatives were very anti young and young artists we were in extreme turmoil .He was one of the few icons who spoke out in support
Cash was the first westerner to learn about Stalin's death. He was in the Air Force Security Service (early counterpart) in Germany, 1950s. Dad and he had the same job. Dad & I were Army Security Agency. They were given the message they knew the Soviets would send upon Stalin's death. Cash copied it. People say his music sounds like a train. To me, it's always been the rhythm of well sent Morse, there is a rhythm to it. Cash was against the Vietnam war, yet spent a lot of time entertaining troops. It's the way it should be. You can be against a conflict, but don't take it out on the men and women of the military.
He is a National Treasure. I have been waiting for you to get to this one. A real insight into the authentic artistry of Johnny Cash. Straightforward and powerful!
I'm German and a lifelong Johnny Cash fan. Even saw him in concert here in Frankfurt, Germany in the 80/90s with his wife June Carter-Cash. Later on, I went to a concert with The Highway Men. ❤
The part of the lyrics where he’s speaking about the number of young men we are losing is talking about our military endeavor in Vietnam. One of my earliest memories as a very young boy was looking on as my parents watched Walter Cronkite of the CBS Evening News each evening. Near the close of each day’s 30 minute news broadcast Cronkite would report the number of our boys who had been killed or wounded in action since his prior evening’s news broadcast just 24 hours earlier. I hope I have the following correct because I have this very vague memory of the name of each and every fallen soldier being scrolled down the screen in silence when each evening’s CBS News broadcast would come to an end. It is weird to me that memories like this were somehow seared into the mind of a very young child. And then when I was older I would learn about how the “lucky” ones who made it home alive and physically (but usually not mentally) intact were treated so terribly by many people of our country. I think the worst part of that for me was realizing that nearly every member of our military at that time had no choice in the matter because they were forced to go fight in a war halfway around the world because most were drafted into a branch of our military. I have an uncle who to this day has never spoken one word about what he saw or experienced while in Vietnam.
This was during the Vietnam war & his line about the thousands who have died, thinking we were all on their side, is a reference to the way the soldiers were treated during it. My brother did 3 tours of Vietnam & was spit on every time he came home. Many of those soldiers were drafted & had no choice about being there or doing what they were ordered to do. This performance was at a college campus Johnny had toured. Those are students.
Another strong female singer/ song writer to check out...CAROL KING.. the album TAPESTRY... She wrote songs..starting late 50's..through the 60's..in the 70's she finally got the courage to put out an album of herself singing her own songs...amazing! Multi award winning album and career
Johnny was definitely the man, in black and otherwise. When it came to his faith, which he had an abundance of, he was described as “devout but troubled”. But, he maintained a sense of compassion for his fellow man. Where some might cast off the inmate or the addict, Johnny felt for them. He had integrity, and he also kept his rebellious streak in there, too. No wonder he still has fans and respect from a multitude of music communities.
He starts by saying that he took time to converse with those young people and that the song is a product of those conversations. Today, people don't want to listen to one another. They want to argue and force their opinions onto everyone.
I would love to see you and Ali do a reaction to Johnny Cash's cover of "Hurt" by 9-Inch Nails. Totally moving. Trent Resnor said, after hearing Johnny's version, that is was HIS song now. It was the last song Johnny recorded, before he passed.
Johnny Cash played at Folsom Prison and it was recorded, it is also on here! The warden and guards were afraid of him, his wife, and his band going into the prison, but if you go watch it; it is so awesome all around!
Such a great song. I believe these were university students, another great song is "What is Truth" . Apparently Johnny was invited by Nixon to perform at one of his campaign events , Johnny didn't like the song he chose , so sang "What is Truth". Nixon wasn't happy since it was basically an anti war song.
One of the best interviews I watched was with Johnny Cash and John Lennon on a variety show in England I think when Johnny was touring. They had very different opinions on the Vietnam War and politics in general.
I was 9 years old, a Corporal in The Kiss Army, knew all the words to Alice Cooper songs. But I was a closet Johnny Cash fan. My parents always caught me listening to him with the headset on. They always went to his concerts when he came to town and they took me in 1975. Row 20 on the floor. I can still see him. He taught me what live music can be. Peace
............................. he and Elvis were friends, and knew each other from Sun Records.....however, they never knew each other until Sun Records in Memphis.........BUT, spent their teen years just 50 miles from each other! Johnny in Dyess, AR and Elvis in city housing near downtown memphis!
The bookends of his career, The Man in Black and The Man Comes Around, with Hurt in between. This came out at the height of the Viet Nam War. The hundred fine young men were soldiers.
I LOVE Johnny Cash. He is from Arkansas, as am I. A friend and I go to Jonesboro to the concerts to raise money for his foundation. He grew up dirt poor, but he overcame it and made something of himself.
Johnny was a man filled with faith. He couldn't go anymore but he went to the First Baptist Church in Hendersonville. Even though he was too well known to go he lived his faith every single day.
My dad was a young man in prison who saw a performance. Said Johnny Cash only performed towards the prisoners. I didn't realize until much later what a huge deal those shows were
Completely and totally Johnny Cash. He believes and means what he says. This is such an easy song to analyze because it's straight forward true to the man who wrote and sang it.
As impressive as Johnny is on video, it is about a fifth of what he was in person. I saw him in the early seventies at Milwaukee's Summerfest, a huge and impersonal venue, but Johnny had IT, the Q factor, whatever you want to call it. He OWNED the audience, and his love for June showed up in every note. An incredible performer, and a better human being.
He meant every word. I believe he wrote this while we were still in the throes of the Vietnam War. That's where we were losing 100 young men every week.
In America Johnny Cash is "The Man In Black". Johnny wore black up to the day he past away. Never did he let the fame or ego of character get to him where he acted better than anybody else. Acoording to some of the Country Music Legends. The 3 Kings is Hank Waylon Johnny.
It's important that we try to help food banks especially in the summer because the children are not getting free lunch and breakfast. Please people donate at a store or donate to you local food pantry. Your dollars will go further through Salvation Army or Operation Blessing. Thanks because I work 2 times a week at a church food pantry.
This was during the Vietnam war, and those college kids expressed their concerns of the war with him. Thats why they all applauded with the line, "Each week we lose 100 fine young men"
One example of the balance in Johnny was at one point, he decided we needed to get out of Vietnam which made conservatives mad at him but he still went and did USO shows for the troops which made liberals mad at him. He properly said that not doing the shows just hurt the soldiers and doing the shows didn't mean he supported being in the war.
The saints thought he was a sinner & the sinners thought he was a saint. I hope no nitwits try to get in a theological argument about that being said about Cash. That has unfortunately happened before. Just relaying what is & has been said about him.
Regarding pausing the music: it's a myth as stated, but it's also real. I'm not a lawyer and copyright is complicated, but the two most important rules for your purposes are that (1) You need to bring something new that viewers can't get just by watching the original and (2) Watching your video cannot be a replacement for the original. So to #2, pausing, using filters, replaying sections, etc. acts to break up the original and change the experience. Someone who wants to listen to the song will go listen to the original, not just watch your clip. How long a play and pause needs to be depends on what else a creator is doing and how they use the pauses.
That comment you mentioned from the video 3 days ago (progressive/conservative), was actually realized during Abraham Lincoln's presidency. He made cabinet appointments from his political "enemies" because he realized that we should ALL work together, and nothing can be learned in an echo chamber.
Johnny Cash was THE MAN! He was at one time a hell raiser, but he saw the light, and changed his ways. I don't wanna sound like a “holyer than thou” because I'm not. No indignant anger directed at others, just a humble explanation of his personal views. Still the benchmark.

"...each week we lose a hundred fine young men." This was written and sung while our young men were fighting and dying in Viet Nam.
I always loved his song, Ira Hayes. The Native American Marine who was one of the six in thephoto of raising the flag in Iwo Jima. Heartbreaking
He is a National Treasure. I have been waiting for you to get to this one. A real insight into the authentic artistry of Johnny Cash. Straightforward and powerful!
Me too! I look forward to watching as Sebs listens to more and more of the many poignant songs by Johnny Cash. Definitely a good fit for Sebs ❤️💐

How lucky were those young people who were in attendance? RIP Johnny Cash.
Love Johnny and June too. R.I.P to both

to this day my dad dresses all in black on certain occasions because of mr cash and this song.

My son absolutely loves Johnny Cash.
Definitely check out "Folsom Prison Blues"
The USA had troops being killed in the Vietnam war during this time period. People were losing fathers sons and brothers in the war.

Jonny cash becoming an ordained minister in the early 1980s.
I have chills too.
We should watch the
Johnny Cash movie....
Walk the Line
Great movie!
My dad was a young man in prison who saw a performance. Said Johnny Cash only performed towards the prisoners. I didn't realize until much later what a huge deal those shows were

From Memorial Day you should play Johnny Cash.....
Ragged Ole Flag
Not just for Memorial Day.
RAGGED OLD FLAG
RAGGED OLD FLAG
RAGGED OLD FLAG
If you want chills, do his "Ragged Old Flag" for Memorial Day this weekend.
The fine young men dying was that damn Vietnam War
God bless u Johnny, thank you for your music. One of the greats for sure. Rest well my friend.
RIP Johnny. Check out "Jackson" a duet he did with his wife June Carter Cash. His daughter Roseanne Cash is also a successful singer.
As impressive as Johnny is on video, it is about a fifth of what he was in person. He's calling out the American-Vietnam War. Things haven't changed but this song gives me hope. I was 22 when this song was written.😢
He meant every word. I believe he wrote this while we were still in the throes of the Vietnam War. That's where we were losing 100 young men every week.
It’s good to hear Johnny again… such a big heart!
This is my favorite Johnny Cash song
Check out Johnny Cash singing “Man in White”.
Mr Cash was born poor share cropper Chopin Cotton !!!!!
Lived with that Label all his life !!!!!! His Soul fought the establishment ✊🤠👏👏🍻❤️

This was always such a moving song
His verse about losing 100 good men was during the Vietnam War.
Johnny Cash wrote from his heart.
Love Johnny Cash. Would love for you to check out Vern Gosdin, ' chiseled in stone'

interesting though as he did not always wear black. I remember seeing him in many colors through the years. But he did do black alot;)
Love seeing this reacted too!!
Always a favorite.
This was a major anti=war statement from a huge Nashville star...and he took a lot of flack for it. He never flinched in the face of it...
The saints thought he was a sinner & the sinners thought he was a saint.
I hope no nitwits try to get in a theological argument about that being said about Cash. That has unfortunately happened before. Just relaying what is & has been said about him.
MEMORIAL DAY IS MONDAY SEBS SO ☹ A GREAT CASH SONG YOU COULD DO IS : RAGGED OLD FLAG 👍😊
This was written during the Vietnam war. It still is relevant today.

Three chords, and the truth. That’s often called the basic foundation of country music.

Ćheck out ' The Hag' by Johnny Cash.
I’m pretty sure that the hundred dead young men each week is about U.S. soldiers who died in Vietnam at that time.
Please, please, give NIN’s version of “Hurt”. Please, the vocals with the video (which is insane), please give it a hear.
Listen to Hurt!
You need to react to The Ballad of Ira Hayes
I Wanna Talk About Me by Toby Keith
He was singing to college students I believe
💛✊🏼
i wear all black clothing myself.

What would he say about Ukraine, Palestinian people? He wouldn't stand for it. 😢
An AWESOME Christian man

Sebs Duran, This is great! Let's be friends and have fun together!
He lived his song. He never wore anything but black.
