Reminds me of my trip to Ettington park hotel many years ago. Phoned to ask where to land and they said east of the main building, on recce spotted an H on the ground very close to the main building so made an approach further out and hover taxied closer to the H. To give you an idea of how close, the downwash from the Bell 206 managed to blow over the drink of a man who was sat out on the terrace (reminiscent of that old Maxell ‘Blown Away Guy’ commercial) After shutting down, I apologised to the man and offered to buy him another drink, which he refused and just said he had enjoyed the experience of seeing a helicopter flying that close. Turns out the H wasn’t to show the helicopter landing area, it was just a collection of paving slabs arranged in an H pattern.
Hahaha love that! I bet when they did it someone joked a helicopter would land on it haha
Great fun , I flew R22s a few times when I was younger , but it was too costly to keep up as a hobby .
Much more fun than fixed wing though .
Got to love he white shirts and epaulettes on the leather jacket. Got to love the UK private pilot dress codes.
Very cool young man (correction; VERY, VERY cool!), so pleased for you and your progress - you'll soon have those 20 hours too. If I'd been there, regardless of if I knew you or not, I'd have been over for a chat (after you'd landed and shut down)! Very smart R44 that - much more fun and stylish than any of those middle management motors parked up lol!
Haha thank you, very kind of you to say! Yes I’m slowly getting there! Always welcome over for a chat haha
Hi Tom, youre most welcome, thanks, one day, it would be great to have a longer chat when things get back to normal.
Haha this is the life, awesome video mate.
Haha thanks mate! Glad you enjoyed
The trouble is getting home !
8 pints in can be tricky 😮
Well done mate I'm not going to make any smutty comments about going into the pub and saying to the girls "Hi Girls want to come outside and see my chopper, the things to consider are size, shape, and length" LOL oh dear I've said it now! Seriously buddy you really do deserve to do this you have worked so hard and as you know I have followed your flying career from the start and your parents and friends must be so proud of you - so good on you "String Fellow Hawk"
David as always it’s very kind of you to say and I do look forward to your comments!
Nice cameo from me there Tom. Chequers is an excellent destination I have to say. 👍
It is indeed, thanks mate!
Now that is the way to visit the pub Tom! Enjoyed the video. 🚁😎👍
Thanks Tim!
👍brilliant flight buddy to the pub. It's a shame you can not have a nice cool pint of beer. It looks nice for a meal though. Take care and keep safe philip when are you at Barton next buddy.
Thanks Phil! Will do
Nice video I missed this one...Well done on all your hard work and living the dream...
Great video! An off airport to an old pub like that would be great, we do them at wineries where I’m at. Still amazing though.
Thank you! A good winery trip would be cool haha
Well done. cool video. Hoping to catch you at half penny green in August. Thanks for posting.
Thank you and yes, see you there!
Loving the new logo(intro). Love watching you being able to go to cool places now. Can't wait for more!
Definitely looks much better now 😀
@@TheMicroPilot yh 😄
That is so cool
Thanks!
Awesome i love all things aeronautical I'd love to learn how to fly a helicopter I've been told it's quite hard and controls are sensetive
Great video it's brilliant seeing you land in off airport locations. Try the Petwood Hotel in woodhall spa Lincolnshire
Thank you! I’ll have a look at it!
Great flight and lovely landing site Tom. Two videos of photo (video) bombing Rory - v classy buddy :-) ! Thought I heard you on EMA frequency on Saturday morning as I transited South and you North?
Haha thank!! Got to get my free advertising in on his channel haha. I wasn’t flying Saturday so probably not me 😀
@@TheMicroPilot thanks Tom, keep safe and see you soon.
Great video. Really enjoyed this one Tom!
Thanks nick!
Brilliant 👍
This is really cool
Do you know about the Mosquito Helicopter? Would you be able to speak on your thoughts about experimental helicopters? Thanks.
It is interesting! I'm not too sure on exactly how safe it is but it doesn't look very safe. Also the fact that I heard you don't need a heli license to fly them sounds like a death sentence.
@@TheMicroPilot There have been accidents in them already. Why someone would get onto one without at least solo in either a Schweizer 300 or Robinson 22 is beyond me.
Nice vid, pretty cool to land right outside restaurant. Im guessing this was just a confined landing, not steep approach ,less then 30 kts and almost 500ft decent rate ,u r light only one passenger so should have plenty of power. But never guarded collective after touching down after rolling down .
Thank you!
Such a cool video. You’re making me want to switch myself…!
I hate to be biased but they are awesome haha
great video
Thank you!!
Great video, this is the first I have watched of yours. Here comes a new subscriber and going to go through your back catalogue.
I’d love to learn to fly helis for this reason but I think it’s a bit out of my league at the moment.
Thank you and very kind of you! Welcome to the channel. Don’t give up on your goals if it’s what you want to do!
MAybe it's just me, I love the appearance of the Robinson I think most folk do, but is it just me who finds the Cyclic really awkward? Since most of them are double?
Looking to get into helicopter flying myself pal . Any advice you can give me would be much appreciated 🙏
Is there any way you could perhaps do a night flight in the R44 at some point I think that would be an interesting video
Hi, funny you should say that! Though not in the R44 a night Cabri G2 over London is on the way soon!
@@TheMicroPilot nice
super
Did you contact any ATC/Radio for en route traffic information during these two flights ?
I spoke to Leicester both outbound and inbound to Leicester (naturally) but otherwise I was monitoring East Midlands RADAR and squaking their listening squak. They were very busy and had a NOTAM out about reduced capacity so I didn't bother adding to their workload, there was no need. The whole flight was in class G and I was listening anyway to what people were doing around me.
@@TheMicroPilot Thanks. Clear !
@@petakas1 No problem!
Loved the video, I have a question, I am looking to learn but what I don't know is once you are all qualified and good to go, do you need to buy a helicopter or does the school or helicentre provide you a cheaper rate to use the vehicle. ? Thank You
Hi, no problem and no you don't need your own. You can hire from most flying schools.
Wondered how tall you were.. (trying to get an idea of how I would fit in the r22 and g2
I'm 6ft
I am a fan of every hleicopter out there except robinson. They say you can't own a robinson unless you take flight lessons from them and that t stick I hate. That part that either the left or right seat has controll of the craft. It's like they were to cheap to put in a stick per seat
How many hours did you have when you did that flight?
Are you still flying helicopters
I am indeed. I've been busy getting my commercial license and instrument rating. Now I'm flying commercially and things are settling down, I'm looking to start UA-cam again sometime soon.
Where is the advance and retard for the throttle ? Engine power. Is it a twist grip on the collective ?
It is indeed, yes!
As the man sets his helicopter down on my lawn
I walk out and ask "to set this down on my sod something must be wrong?"
The man says "of course there is a reason I did not fly a plane
So of something is wrong I could set this down on just any-thang"
As I pull out my shotgun and look at his skids set down on my sod
I question him "what's wrong that I should not just pull this trigger and hole pump your bod?"
The man replies "Jesus the warning light said it was the alternator!
I just wanted to call the mechanic... Umm... And possibly get an ice tea out of your refrigerator"
I ask him "what lawman says mah property is your landing spot?"
He says "read this book the FAR its a pilots discretion wether I land in an emergency or not"
He asks me "do you know how to get to town fast?"
I said "sure its back the way you came. Get this bird out of here and let me lay back."
The man implies "umm.... Sure.... I'll have it towed as soon as I can phone"
Right then and there my wife came out and said "leave that man alone"
She grabbed the 12 guage right out of my hand and said
"Cmon this guy is the semi rigid rotor system auto rotatin man
He just came by to check out his engine
Horace can't you just open the fridge and get him one thing maybe with some ketchup?
Ain't you watch the Red Bull where they fly upside down like Peter Pan?
Also Im sure lawn landins justify a free ride" to which the pilot replied "why yes mam"
you doesn't loo micro to me.
Oh so drunk flying is legal???
Had to stop watching. Horribe music beat
Super cool 👍🏾🙏🏾
