Source: experienced sewist here. It's important to note that in this tutorial, the edges weren't just sewn, they were either finished with a serger or used a coverstitch on the sewing machine. If you don't want the edges of the zipper showing, you have a couple of options:
    1) Sew the ends of the zipper to the SIDES of the bag first (right sides facing, so the nice part of the bag touching the zipper tab/teeth) so that it makes a loop, and then sew the loop onto the front and back of the bag (right sides facing, of course, so sew it inside out essentially). Make sure to leave the zipper UNZIPPED halfway when sewing the front/back on, as this will allow you to turn it right-side out. This will still leave the inside seam exposed, though. That would bug me.
    2) There are a lot of DIY zipper pouch tutorials on UA-cam, where you would sew the lining separate from the exterior fabric, leaving a hole to turn it right side out. That's what I would recommend. Especially since in this particular tutorial, the interior lining isn't quilted. It makes it a little more complicated having the zipper on three sides of the bag instead of just one, but the concepts are still the same.
Both of those options will give a more professional finish, and protect the integrity of the stitches along the sides of the zipper.

I just came here to say. I hate when these minimalist tutorials skip important steps. They used a serger for the edges of the lining and didn't tell you!

Great video and easy to follow, especially for sewing newbies like me. My question is if I don't want the zipper on the outside do I still sew it on last or that be something to do earlier on like I've seen in other tutorials?
