A free player can reach the same power level as a whale if they're smart and play the auction house. Also the combat has scissor paper rock mechanics, so it doesn't matter how strong your class is, another player can hard counter you.
the special morphs do have a *very* niche use, certain ones make certain mobs not aggressive torwards you, there is a quest where this is show albeit briefly
Exactly right, the game died for me the moment I discovered it is pay to win. They made everything time gated and farming stuff regularly incredibly hard, to the point it is almost impossible to progress so you have to pay, just a terrible and greedy design.
@v3sono and warframe is not as "pay2win" but "pay2skip". there's no pvp, all of the content can be cleared with guns you get from quests or with guns that you can farm easily. TnL on the other side has a focus on PvP

The gearing up process is extremely fun cause it's done by running events, world bosses, dungeons, open world dungeons with your guild mates so, find a nice guild and enjoy the game while having a good laugh on discord... this is not WoW or FFXIV where you literally never talk to a single fucking soul for dozens of hours and only play with others 10% of the time at best... here you have fun WITH OTHERS 3. The game has time-gating on Dungeons, contracts etc cause it prevents no-lifers from taking over the server and ruining the game for normal human beings like me that have a life and are not pathetic like them... 4. When you PvP you will realize that even if you're not super geared up you're very very useful if you know how to play your class cause someone with maxed blue gear can easily compete and even beat someone with semi-progressed Epic gear... so unless you can max out your Epic gear (which even with P2W it will take a while cause you need the gear to drop for you) you won't ever feel massively stronger than the players around you and if you don't know how to play your class well you will get shit on HARD by people with lower gear scores. So, yeah, I've played warframe and this game feels exactly like that... I have the patience to farm the lucent and buy everything I need without spending a dime... my account has around 2k plat lying around in warframe while I've bought everything I ever needed for free there too... I think people that say it's a "toxic" system are just whiners... the game rewards you for PLAYING the game waaaaay more than for paying... if anything whales are actually being dumb victims cause not only are they not getting huge advantages but they're also funding the active F2P players to keep up with them for free... There, now your excuses are officially bullshit... good day...
The issue is that this is a Korean MMO, and Korean audiences have VERY different play styles and tolerances than us Westerners do. Not that there's anything wrong with Korean-style mmos, but if publishers can't make adjustments to better cater to western audiences, then any imported MMO is going to struggle to overcome the various cultural differences that exist.
I'd say there a good healthy amount of western players are used to Korean MMO we've been playing them for a decade now. This one in particular wasn't a big hit in Korea cause it wasn't "P2W enough" This game is as P2W as WOW with wow tokens and buying gold.
Yeah, there's a lot of people defending it because it's new and they're still having some level of fun. This game will die just like every other p2w Korean game. Can only assume the people defending are whales that need the f2p people to stick around to farm in pvp.
Honestly some monetization is fine. The problem comes when the game expects you to dump hundreds or even thousands of $ into it. Im old I remember my MMOs requiring a subscription. If the game is designed such that 10-15$ a month will keep you at top end gear, or you can no-life it, this is fine. its really no different than playing a subbed game but with a free option. I dont want to see diablo immortal or even Blade and soul styles of monetization where you can spend 1000$ and still have a massive power gap. That being said really my favorite way to monetize is the POE approach. Maybe small permanent convenience upgrades along with a whole hord of cosmetic options. This game has plenty of room for cosmetics, Weapon and armor skins, morphs, amorti and more. Cosmetic items do not break the power balance of the game.
The longform video is really useful. Can't vouch for algorithm or your monetization, but I did come away from this video very informed on why I likely won't get into this MMO.

The shapeshifts can be very useful. I love the spider one so all the spiders ignore me while I search for gathering materials. Unfortunately I can’t get the key bind, default page up, to work. So I have to enter menu each time I want to put it back on.
There is more to it in gearing, it's not just getting your purples from dungeons and that's it. I still don't understand it yet but people say it's better to get all green set to +6 and then getting your blue gear and feeding your green one into it, same with purple gear, meaning getting first your blue gear to max (which will take a lot of time) before actually using your purple gear. It seems like what you did is unoptimal. Also there are other options for gearing which I don't understand like litography system and such. There are really good systems and graphics are great, but MOVEMENT is trash, very janky with errors and bugs. PS: I love the longer format video because I can listen to it while I'm playing something :) very nice. I hope your videos get popular because it really encapsulates the experience of a real player really well.
On the topic of Character Customization, I don't see the point of tons of options. For 99.99% of your time in the game, you won't even see the overwhelming majority of the customization. It will be covered by armor or you'll be zoomed out far enough (in order to see the combat or other important game play) that you won't even be able to see the details or you're looking at the back of your head. Thanks for this review. Even though it's F2P, I was on the fence. You covered enough things that are in my circle of interest that I feel it's worth it to try it out. Cheers!

I am loving this game. The betas/alphas were nothing like how it released, and the combat feels great. My personal grievances: - The skill ceiling is low. Meaning positioning/timing are more important than skill-expression and hitting your combos correctly. - Specializations and traits included, at the top level, there are actually very few skill changes that you'll be able to make in order to express yourself. So, again, it's a game not about the skills or your skill as a player, but about recognizing timing and positioning. - Gear is going to be ultra-P2W until a few weeks later, when the market prices go down. This means you should NOT do any ranked PvP until you're 2700+. I just hit 2700 and I play for 14h/d (making most of my money off selling red stones from abyss grinding to whales, earlier on). Even then, I STILL can't compete well. Get your gear, join a guild, and grind it out. Ignore ranked PvP. - That said, guilds are absolutely required. - The dungeons are "average" at best and janky low-effort garbage at worst (Rex flight mechanics are completely jank). So, you should really find most of your fun grinding/PvPing with friends and your guild. For me, that's perfect, for others... You might hate it. - For a game based on group PvP, there is still no guild alliance chat OR the ability to create alliances/leagues (multiple groups paired together, then multiples of that paired together). Aion had this and was very fleshed-out when it came to large-scale PvP. My only idea as to why they don't is because of little investment they made for this game to go PC, at first. - If you mess up your gear upgrade path, you'll really regret it. Watch a video. Other than that, it's a great MMO and I'm glad to see a PvP-focused game with large player numbers. Looking forward to seeing how it is after a month or two. I'll be around and I hope more people get into it.
Idk what you're talking about tbh, Arena's can be fine if you're traited out properly a full leveled blue set is stronger than a full 9 purple with shit traits. Understanding traits is more important than grinding gear score. You can have 2700 combat power and still do shit against ex me with 2400 with traits set up. My friend already got in top 15 NA EAST with only spending money on the pre order early access. (2300 combat power)
It might not be a popular opinion but the biggest problem for me was the control... moving with keyboard asdw then clicking twelve skills from 1 to = was impossible to enjoy the gameplay. Even after remapping the shortcuts completely, it still didn't feel right.. In my experience with other games it was always not an issue since you move with mouse. I found an option to do this but it constantly moved the screen view at the same time. Another thing other than this was how the skills felt stationary and rigid since the game was designed to be auto fight initially. Although they changed and improved this, to me it still felt not entertaining enough. I had to quit for these reasons but if I was okay with these, I think I would have played without any problem. I play only PVE and like slow paced so I wouldn't care pay to win aspect much. The graphics were amazing and I liked that it provided a true sense of open world. Skills were not unique and not satisfying at all like Lost Ark but the MMO structure or progression style seemed a lot better than Lost Ark, just more like a real MMO.

Players have already reached true bottlenecks when it became clear how the monetization is clearly pay to progress. You can at level 50 buy full epic from the cash shop, uprade your gear to max trait with one swipe. Basically invest 400-600 bucks and you won, no f2p player will be able to catch up to you, even in two months from now it will just be a short period where gear is a bit more balanced which will immediately change when new content comes up.
Black desert online also has Afk fishing as well. You can active fish which has a mini game or toss your rod and walk away and the game will fish for you. So BDO has the option to do nothing fyi.
People are wildin' too much on this being p2w. So much so I don't even think they know what it means anymore. You cannot buy xp. You can only buy components of growthstones so you still have to grind out the other mats. Ya you can buy purples in the auction house but then you still need to get trails and items to level up said traits and so on. I'm confused on what people are so mad about here. It's litterally the same level of p2w as GW2 and WoW. Tokens let you buy gold and you can buy items. Gems let you buy gold and you can buy items. The only difference is in you buy AH items with gold in those games. But you still have to grind that gold. You grind item drops and sell them in TL. Its almost identical. You still have to grind mats for skill and item upgrades. You cant just buy them. People saying p2w trash didnt even look into it and I don't think Waydot did either. Just saw you could buy weapons and assumed you can buy everything.
The biggest issue with the game is the limited movement. Give melee more range, make the range of motion more dynamic and obviously generally more QOL improvements and this could be insane. They are like 95% there, but that 5% missing makes me not wanna continue the game.
I genuinely think UE4, I think?, carried so hard in terms of performance and quality gameplay excluding the iffy combat. They had some server issues but no queues and some regions were screwed by their host servers. But overall, playing the actual game was smooth and especially not seeing a single loading screen on an SSD was amazing.
5:12 - I like the concept, but I kind of hate this. I'd prefer an *actual* swap of the weapon + action bar. I can't reach 6-0 on my keyboard while keeping my fingers on/around directional keybinds. I suppose I could use shift + 1-5 for the main secondary skills, it's just less comfortable.

Go back to buying bonds to fund max setups to save you time... Upgrading is not even remotely a gambling mechanic or slot machine. You're obviously referring to the chance system which is just weird, but not a gamble...
The cutesy Amitoi thing threw me for a loop and took me out of the immersion. Logged off at that point and haven't been compelled to log back in...yet. Appreciate the walkthrough as it gave me an idea of what's in store if I jump in again. (That combat neighbor Jon comparison...lol) The little thing I like is the load transitions...very well done.

Amazing game. Love it! Started playing at week 2 and it's a lot of fun. UE4 F2P game, sign me in. Also it isn't as P2W as all say. You can achieve everything as F2P player. The game feels more like pay to progress.
It will be p2w like lost ark after a few updates. The grind will be so bad that it will take you 1-2 years to get the best upgraded gear, and by that time they will just drop the new update, and your gear is now useless. This is the norm for korean mmo's.
Hi, I need to ask why my friend, who has a big sword and a sword and shield at level 24, has more damage than me with daggers and a staff at level 30? We both have upgraded passives and skills, and I have weapon level 5 while he has weapon level 3. Shouldn't his weapons have less damage than mine I mean in general dps i kill monster in like 3-4 seconds and he do it in max 2sec wtf

Their climbing mechanics is non existent, and their solution to that is these hooks that you have to find and are in certain areas of the game only, so there's not much freedom if you want to go any high platforms. Your flying morph will not make fly off the ground it just lets you glide down which is disappointing
People mostly praise FFXIV for the story and music, which is perfectly understandble. If you want good combat in an MMORPG, there are only WoW for tab-target, GW2 for hybrid, BDO for fast-paced action and Lost Ark for top-down Diablo style aRPG left. The rest like TERA or Vindictus were killed either by lack of content or stupid management.

People complaining about P2W as F2P players who don't want to pay anything at all, should maybe think twice about what they think of OSRS/RS3 F2P players complaining they're at an XP/HR disadvantage and content lockout because they're cheap.
This game should actually be called Lineage 3...and who played Lineage 2, will find a lot of similarities between the 2. Now, the bad part is that ToL is bad - the pvp is way worse than that of L2 and I find pve to be the worst of any mmo I have ever played in my entire life (and I'm damn old) - let's be clear: the dungeons and bosses are way worse than those from Lost Ark and those are cancer. Unless the devs don't fix it up, this game remains off my radar...although I would like to play a successor of L2

Commenting about how an eastern mmo has a big character customization made me LOL, so young so inexperienced
I am loving this game. The betas/alphas were nothing like how it released, and the combat feels great.
My personal grievances:
- The skill ceiling is low. Meaning positioning/timing are more important than skill-expression and hitting your combos correctly.
- Specializations and traits included, at the top level, there are actually very few skill changes that you'll be able to make in order to express yourself. So, again, it's a game not about the skills or your skill as a player, but about recognizing timing and positioning.
- Gear is going to be ultra-P2W until a few weeks later, when the market prices go down. This means you should NOT do any ranked PvP until you're 2700+. I just hit 2700 and I play for 14h/d (making most of my money off selling red stones from abyss grinding to whales, earlier on). Even then, I STILL can't compete well. Get your gear, join a guild, and grind it out. Ignore ranked PvP.
- That said, guilds are absolutely required.
- The dungeons are "average" at best and janky low-effort garbage at worst (Rex flight mechanics are completely jank). So, you should really find most of your fun grinding/PvPing with friends and your guild. For me, that's perfect, for others... You might hate it.
- For a game based on group PvP, there is still no guild alliance chat OR the ability to create alliances/leagues (multiple groups paired together, then multiples of that paired together). Aion had this and was very fleshed-out when it came to large-scale PvP. My only idea as to why they don't is because of little investment they made for this game to go PC, at first.
- If you mess up your gear upgrade path, you'll really regret it. Watch a video.
Other than that, it's a great MMO and I'm glad to see a PvP-focused game with large player numbers. Looking forward to seeing how it is after a month or two. I'll be around and I hope more people get into it.

Idk what you're talking about tbh, Arena's can be fine if you're traited out properly a full leveled blue set is stronger than a full 9 purple with shit traits. Understanding traits is more important than grinding gear score. You can have 2700 combat power and still do shit against ex me with 2400 with traits set up. My friend already got in top 15 NA EAST with only spending money on the pre order early access. (2300 combat power)

It might not be a popular opinion but the biggest problem for me was the control... moving with keyboard asdw then clicking twelve skills from 1 to = was impossible to enjoy the gameplay. Even after remapping the shortcuts completely, it still didn't feel right.. In my experience with other games it was always not an issue since you move with mouse. I found an option to do this but it constantly moved the screen view at the same time. Another thing other than this was how the skills felt stationary and rigid since the game was designed to be auto fight initially. Although they changed and improved this, to me it still felt not entertaining enough. I had to quit for these reasons but if I was okay with these, I think I would have played without any problem. I play only PVE and like slow paced so I wouldn't care pay to win aspect much. The graphics were amazing and I liked that it provided a true sense of open world. Skills were not unique and not satisfying at all like Lost Ark but the MMO structure or progression style seemed a lot better than Lost Ark, just more like a real MMO.
Were you able to earn a new Flying Shape? or Swimming Shape?
Maybe a Condor , or a squid?
god i wish tera online exisested today, because after playing this game i would drag my balls through burning glass just to have a fraction of the tera online combat, combat in throne and liberty is sooooo dry

Players have already reached true bottlenecks when it became clear how the monetization is clearly pay to progress. You can at level 50 buy full epic from the cash shop, uprade your gear to max trait with one swipe. Basically invest 400-600 bucks and you won, no f2p player will be able to catch up to you, even in two months from now it will just be a short period where gear is a bit more balanced which will immediately change when new content comes up.
TLDR: the game is simple enough that you can google any problem you have, dont need a reviewer.

Black desert online also has Afk fishing as well. You can active fish which has a mini game or toss your rod and walk away and the game will fish for you. So BDO has the option to do nothing fyi.
People are wildin' too much on this being p2w. So much so I don't even think they know what it means anymore. You cannot buy xp. You can only buy components of growthstones so you still have to grind out the other mats. Ya you can buy purples in the auction house but then you still need to get trails and items to level up said traits and so on. I'm confused on what people are so mad about here. It's litterally the same level of p2w as GW2 and WoW. Tokens let you buy gold and you can buy items. Gems let you buy gold and you can buy items. The only difference is in you buy AH items with gold in those games. But you still have to grind that gold. You grind item drops and sell them in TL. Its almost identical. You still have to grind mats for skill and item upgrades. You cant just buy them. People saying p2w trash didnt even look into it and I don't think Waydot did either. Just saw you could buy weapons and assumed you can buy everything.

The biggest issue with the game is the limited movement.
Give melee more range, make the range of motion more dynamic and obviously generally more QOL improvements and this could be insane.
They are like 95% there, but that 5% missing makes me not wanna continue the game.

I genuinely think UE4, I think?, carried so hard in terms of performance and quality gameplay excluding the iffy combat. They had some server issues but no queues and some regions were screwed by their host servers. But overall, playing the actual game was smooth and especially not seeing a single loading screen on an SSD was amazing.

5:12 - I like the concept, but I kind of hate this. I'd prefer an *actual* swap of the weapon + action bar. I can't reach 6-0 on my keyboard while keeping my fingers on/around directional keybinds. I suppose I could use shift + 1-5 for the main secondary skills, it's just less comfortable.
this is what i do, shift + 1-5. Also can try ctrl +1-5 for other hot keys.

It's not like you can buy gold and best in slot power items to maximise gains and be ahead of everyone else in other games, is it?

Upgrading is not even remotely a gambling mechanic or slot machine. You're obviously referring to the chance system which is just weird, but not a gamble...

Amazing game. Love it! Started playing at week 2 and it's a lot of fun. UE4 F2P game, sign me in. Also it isn't as P2W as all say. You can achieve everything as F2P player. The game feels more like pay to progress.
It will be p2w like lost ark after a few updates. The grind will be so bad that it will take you 1-2 years to get the best upgraded gear, and by that time they will just drop the new update, and your gear is now useless. This is the norm for korean mmo's.

Hi, I need to ask why my friend, who has a big sword and a sword and shield at level 24, has more damage than me with daggers and a staff at level 30? We both have upgraded passives and skills, and I have weapon level 5 while he has weapon level 3. Shouldn't his weapons have less damage than mine I mean in general dps i kill monster in like 3-4 seconds and he do it in max 2sec wtf

Their climbing mechanics is non existent, and their solution to that is these hooks that you have to find and are in certain areas of the game only, so there's not much freedom if you want to go any high platforms.
Your flying morph will not make fly off the ground it just lets you glide down which is disappointing
FF14 has a much worse combat system than this, but people praises that game.. the hypocrisy
People mostly praise FFXIV for the story and music, which is perfectly understandble.
If you want good combat in an MMORPG, there are only WoW for tab-target, GW2 for hybrid, BDO for fast-paced action and Lost Ark for top-down Diablo style aRPG left. The rest like TERA or Vindictus were killed either by lack of content or stupid management.

These games only stay afloat due to the whales, and the whales stick with the game as long as there is a herd of f2p fodder for them to stomp on. People complaining about P2W as F2P players who don't want to pay anything at all, should maybe think twice about what they think of OSRS/RS3 F2P players complaining they're at an XP/HR disadvantage and content lockout because they're cheap.

This game should actually be called Lineage 3...and who played Lineage 2, will find a lot of similarities between the 2. Now, the bad part is that ToL is bad - the pvp is way worse than that of L2 and I find pve to be the worst of any mmo I have ever played in my entire life (and I'm damn old) - let's be clear: the dungeons and bosses are way worse than those from Lost Ark and those are cancer. Unless the devs don't fix it up, this game remains off my radar...although I would like to play a successor of L2
