    I have had either Amenoreaha or Ogliomenoreaha for the entire time I have had a period. I would go years without a period, then I would get a month long period. Then I might get one every few months, and it would last a few weeks. Or I would be actively trying to get pregnant(which I did for 10 years, with no success) when I finally gave up. Now that I have been eating a Ketogenic diet I have been having periods. They are still irregular, but I am having them more consistently. Thank you for shining a light on this. I think that as women we need to be more considerate of our hormones and how important they are to our well being. I was of the same opinion for a coupe of years,about not having a cycle to interupt my life for days, until I wanted to get pregnant. It is also about staving off osteoporosis and other ailments as we age. Keep up the good work Leanne!

    I experienced amenorrhea for about, oh... 10 years during my 20s-30s and never thought anything of it.. but yeah, after awhile I did start wondering if it was 'healthy'. It was around that time I started hearing about Maca. I started taking it (about 1 Tbsp/day) and within a few weeks, BOOM!! Got my periods back!! And they were regular from that point forward. Nothing else changed in my diet/supps regime that could have accounted for it. I still take it on a regular basis into perimenopause and have experienced NONE of the 'typical' symptoms (hot flashes, mood swings, weight gain, etc.). Just thought this might be useful for anyone who might want to try something natural before trying hormones.

    Keto has done the opposite for me, but I'm glad for the people it's helped. My period used to be predictable to the day, and almost to the hour. 3 months into keto and it's completely unpredictable.

    I am lost here, some will tell me to eat more fats from animals or dairy, and others tell me to stay away from those because they imbalance hormone levels.

    I'm not having my period for two months now, and I'm getting scared about it. I'm still 16 and got my period when I was 11. I know it's not yet serious unlike some of you, but I just envy those girls who has normal periods. I pray mine would be normal very soon.

    Thank you for your message. I came across your video a few weeks ago. You gave me hope. A few months ago I changed my diet and tried to manage stress. However, two months ago I was living with my aunt. She cooks lots of protein and fats. At first I was reclutant to eat it but I had no choice. When I watched your video I realized as well that maybe that maybe the ketogenic diet might help me. Fast forward to today, I am very happy to share my news! I got my period back!!!!!!!! After a 3 year battle! I'm soooooooooo happy! I tried hormones a year ago, but it didn't come back naturally. Today it did! So everyone, please try your best! Be kind to yourselves and try to regain balance. YOU CAN DO IT TOO!! Thank you

    I don’t know if this will help anyone but I’ve only been low carb about four months. My periods are really delayed or don’t come. I wanted a way to help kick start my cycle without eating a ton of carbs. I ate a small hand full of walnuts and a serving of edamame. They have phytoestrogens in them. There’s a whole list of foods that do but those are all I had on hand. Two hours later I have started my period. Going to try it again next month but Mindy Perez has a book called fast like a girl & it’s not just about fasting it’s about how the hormones work and what you need to eat to get those in line. It’s working for me. I hope it helps someone else out there.

    I LOVE that you are here sharing your experiences and wisdom. Men and male doctors may have gone to school but do not have the female experience. Even though your experience isn't identical to mine it helps SO MUCH to hear from another female who still dealt with similar issues in terms of hormones so THANK YOU!

    My period was extremely heavy (like murder scene heavy) and painful (like fileting your uterus painful). I have been on Keto for about 18 days and I am just wrapping up my period. It was a normal flow with extremely reduced cramping. I wasn't even as crazy as usual during PMS. I am blown away. Plus, I have lost 19 pounds. I am challenged daily with keto because my budget is currently so restricted, but it's making such a difference for me, I really want to stick with it. I was feeling so depressed and stuck and now, I feel hopeful for the future.

    I would so very much love some info, links to blogs, or maybe a video from you about fat fueled and/or keto pregnancy. I'm pregnant with baby 5 and have struggled with loosing weight since I hit puberty. I'm 37 and clearly not infertile but something has been off with my hormones since I can't seem to loose all the weight. I've been doing keto since February 2015.

    I can totally relate! I started with my issues with period ever since my beginnings (at 13 years old). But everyone was saying that it was because I was skinny (and I'm still skinny, so I born this way). Finally when I was 22 I had the diagnosis of PCOS. They gave me the birth control pill but after 11 years it started to make me feel bad, with migraine and a very severe water retention. Now I have begun taking a light birth control pill, but my period has not came back! So thank you, I'm going to browse through your videos! I'm in Italy, but I don't think that your advices are "geography sensitive" :-D

    I am 1 in 10 that needs medication to regulate mine. I lost 50 lbs on low carb. I started my menstrual cycles back up that first month (20 lbs down) but it stopped after the 4th month. I went through horrible hot flushes when the imbalance kick back in. I fell off the wagon and now I'm back on the wagon to control my insulin levels. I have to admit...I feel better on low carb.

    I’m currently struggling with amenorrhea. My periods were somewhat irregular when I first began menstruating & became somewhat regular was I got older. The only thing that sucked about my cycles were extreme pms and the heavy flow days. Well, my cycle has been absent since December. I’m prone to bacterial infections and took a high dosage of antibiotics for 14 days & my cycle didn’t come back. Because of this, a cyst grew & I was diagnosed with pcos. I was given birth control and was sent on my way. This vid has given me extra encouragement! Thanks!

  • @bethhollingshead8876

    I've been eating some form of ketogenic/low carb diet for the past three years. I've had my period since I was 14 and was NEVER regular. I was told by doctors to just "lose weight" (since I've always been on the chubby side). I was given blood tests, but nothing was conclusive as to why my periods were irregular. In college, I even experienced extensive spotting along with the irregular periods. Again, any tests done were inconclusive, and the only option was to go on the pill. I did, but I hated it. It made me sick to my stomach, or made my moods all out of whack, or caused yeast infections/intense itching right before my period, etc.
    Within a month of starting to eat low carb, I started to even out. It wasn't perfect, and I was still averaging well over 30 days for each cycle (with some really short cycles in between), but by a year and a half ago, I've been more or less regular (averaging between 31-35 days for each cycle). Again, it's not perfect...earlier this year I had an almost 50 day cycle, but that's an outlier in comparison to what it's been. Back to before I started keto/low carb, that was NORMAL. According to my period tracker app, I'm averaging 32 days in my cycle. That's huge.
    Also, I used to struggle sometimes with bad cramps. Some days I would have to call off of work because it was so bad. I still get those days occasionally (maybe once or twice per year), but I would also say that about half of my periods are hardly a pain at all. As in no cramps. None. Zero. No ibuprofen. No heating pads. No bloat. While I'm not sure how much low carb/keto has to do with that (maybe it does, maybe it doesn't), I do think that adding a magnesium citrate supplement has helped quite a bit. (For those who don't know, magnesium helps to expand blood vessels. During your period, blood vessels contract as the uterus contracts, thanks to prostoglandins. So having enough magnesium in your system helps a bit with all of this. This is often why people who menstruate crave chocolate, as cocao is a source of magnesium. Also raspberry leaf tea, which is often sold as a natural menstrual cramp soother, is a source of magnesium as well.)
    Thanks Leanne for making this video and confirming what I'm sure a lot of us menstruating folx already intuitively knew!

    I'm at a loss on what to do here, and your story is quite inspiring. I've never had a period naturally, finally met up w/ an OBGYN when I was 19 and he told me "just take these birth control pills and you'll have a period". So I did, and I did. That was over 10 years ago, more recently I really want to start a family, but this stands in my way. I was seeing a doctor and she simply said you don't need to have a period, it's fine. Soooo, this makes me uneasy, that may be a simple answer for her, but I do want to have children.. So I've been meeting w/ a Reproductive Endocrinologist here in California, He says he believes me to have Hypothalamic Amenorrhea. I'm just now starting to research it and I just need help. Where should I start? What kind of doctor can help me with this?Thank you :) I hope you reply, I could really use some help :(

I've gained weight (purposefully) and have done extensive research on how amenorrhea is caused and Ayurvedic/Chinese medicine approaches on how to balance my hormones, but nothings happening...will eating a high-fat diet help? I really like the information on the Weston Price foundation...I'm just scared to put on more weight.

    I was on birth control for about a year due to irregular periods and amenorrhea, but went off it last year in July because I had been keto for a few months and my doctor thought that should regulate things. However, I never got my period back and since I am healthy in every other area (healthier than I was two years ago when I first went on birth control), my doctor diagnosed me with PCOS and has me on progesterone so I can have a period (obviously not a real cycle, though). Should I have waited longer for keto to fix my hormones, or do you think there are some cases where it just doesn't work for certain hormone issues?

    Vitex works to lower insulin...what is happening is you have blood sugar spikes from sugar which is replacing your insulin...You are essentially borderline diabetic...and you have to retrain your bodies insulin mechanism ..vitex lowered my blood sugar spikes and basically reset my body...on vitex...i had my period slowly regulate but not completely, it was just more regular...after taking it year i just felt like i had used it to its max...like it had no effect ...kind of hard to explain...and then off of it, i started to realize sugar was way too strong for my body..i can have carrots and taste the sweetness in them or berries etc...oranges are very sweet and other things like soda etc are just too much...For the majority of my life i had candy almost everyday or enhanced fruit juice that had corn syrup sugar etc...it caught up with me

    • @syrenaxhaferi7278
      @syrenaxhaferi7278 6 років тому

      Well i started taking it and after it had changed my cycle after about a year of use, i had a sensitivity to sugar and acid...that i never had before...You could say it reset my bodies sensors; so that i did not exceed acceptable amounts of sugar or acid whereas to cause insulin spikes or acidosis, two things that throw your bodies balance off.

    • @syrenaxhaferi7278
      @syrenaxhaferi7278 6 років тому

      The sugar spikes cause the main problems and insulin is related to the problem...pcos is being borderline diabetic or forcing your body to extremes with your insulin spiking and also your adrenals are involved....Vitex does not work as a diabetes med but it regulates your body enough to where your body becomes, overtime, more sensitive to sugars and acids...which is good.

    • @syrenaxhaferi7278
      @syrenaxhaferi7278 6 років тому

      Your hormones fluctuate if your adrenal glands are taxed from bad diet, sugar spikes, malnutrition, etc ....Vitex worked for me to regulate my body and what it was comfortable with in regard to food. It worked with my genetics and physiological probems, it is a plant from south europe and may not effect everyone the same. If I had issues with progesterone or estrogen, or perhaps dehydroepiandrosterone which is a precursor hormone, connected to the adrenal glands and adrenal fatigue, vitex regulated the problem.
