    Great video, thanx for sharing. What line type and test are you running with on the casting reels?

    • @letsrolloutdoors
      @letsrolloutdoors  2 роки тому

      Thanks for the question. We run 17-20 lb monon main line, 40-50 lb mono shock leader about the length of the rod with about 4-5 wraps on the reel. Usually Trilene, or Ande

      @@letsrolloutdoors Thanx - I went over yer vid again and found yer text blurb about the line. I use Omoto Chief 6000 and 7000 revolver reels coastered on 11' to 13' rods I build from blanks. Mostly using Sakuma 18# with an 80# shocker, throwing 4 to 8 ounces plus a chunk. For me it's important to have a shocker that'll cover 10#s per payload weight, particularly with an aggressive Hatteras or pendulum cast. The leader is 6' of 100 to 200 pound mono to a short 12" length of 235# single strand haywired to a 5/0 to 10/0 straight circle hook. Yeah, fishing mostly for small 3-5 foot sharks to tag. :) Very cool video ya done!

      @@rfdsrd great info. You're definitely more sophisticated than we are haha. We've landed some 8-9 foot sharks in this standard set up also. Usually use a fish finder rig or cannon ball rig with 8nbait, 100lb bite leader. Good luck out there!

    How far out did you have to cast for the drum and sharks? Also, you used whiting for the drum but what did you use for the sharks? Heading there in a month! Thanks!

      Thanks for the questions. We were casting approx. 75-100 yds using cut mullet mostly. The mullet were the really big kind so we fileted it and cut 4-5 inch chunks. Tackle was the standard 8nbait or cannon ball rigs with 40 lb shock leader, 8oz weight, 9/0 hook on 100lb mono leader.

      @@letsrolloutdoors gotcha, thanks! You don’t need metal leaders for the sharks? I’m surprised they didn’t bite thru the mono.

      @@EddyG0rdo We weren't targeting sharks. Often that big circle hook will get them in the corner of the mouth and their teeth won't hit the line. That being said, we did lose a few. If you're specifically targeting sharks then a heavy wire, cable, or extra heavy mono leader is warranted.

    This video should have mentioned that you must purchase an Off Road Vehicle Permit (which can only be purchased online and which requires you to watch a short training video) before you can legally drive on the beaches of the Outer Banks. It should also be noted that while you definitely should reduce the air pressure in your tires to 20 psi before driving on the beaches, you should inflate them again after you leave the beach because low pressure increases the rolling resistance of your tires and thus, it decreases your gas mileage.

    What did you mean by "citation sized" red drum?

    • @letsrolloutdoors
      @letsrolloutdoors  3 роки тому +2

      The state of NC gives out certificates to commemorate catches of a certain size. For red drum it's any drum over 40 inches. You register your measurement and you receive a nice 8x10 certificate

    20 psi is really low I wouldn’t recommend that.25 is low enough

    • @letsrolloutdoors
      @letsrolloutdoors  3 роки тому +2

      Every truck runs different. I know a lot of guys actually go down to 15 on the Outer Banks because of the soft sand. The info provided by the park service actually recommends 15-20 PSI. Some beaches I've done fine without airing down at all. Thanks for the comment and good luck out there.

    • @alltree78

      Actually i run 18 and nothing higher. Sometimes 15. I drive a duramax and the difference in 2 to 5 psi is a huge difference
