The knight is Damian Wilson, probably best known for his time in the UK prog band Threshold.
A little detail that makes Simone’s performance even more impressive is that she has said in interviews that she is afraid of heights.
This song is from the album Into the Electric Castle. Eight people from different timelines end up in a world where time and space do not play a role. A strange voice instructs them to reach and discover the Electric Castle from within.
The album opens with a voice from the sky announcing to the eight characters (the Highlander, the Hippie, the Futureman, the Indian, the Egyptian, the Barbarian, the Knight, and the Roman) that they have been taken to the "cranial vistas of psychogenesis," a mysterious non-place in a non-time. The voice commands the eight to seek out and enter the Electric Castle, and warns that they will be challenged with puzzles and tests of mettle.
On stage this song:
• John de Lancie - Narrator
• Arjen Anthony Lucassen - Hippie
• Anneke van Giersbergen (The Gentle Storm, VUUR, ex-The Gathering) - Egyptian
• Edwin Balogh - Roman
• John Jaycee Cuijpers (Star One, Supersonic Revolution, Praying Mantis) - Barbarian
• Simone Simons (Epica)- Indian
• Edward Reekers (ex-Kayak) - Futureman
• Damian Wilson (Arena, Headspace, Maiden uniteD, ex-Threshold) - Knight
Back-up
• Marcela Bovio (ex-Stream of Passion, Mayan, Star One) - Backing vocals,
• Dianne van Giersbergen (Ex Libris, ex-Xandria) - Backing vocals
• Jan Willem Ketelaers (Knight Area) - Backing vocals
instrumentalists
• Ed Warby (Star One)- drums
• Marcel Singor (Kayak) - lead guitar
• Ferry Duijsens (VUUR) - guitar
• Bob Wijtsma (Ex Libris) - guitar
• Johan van Stratum (Blind Guardian, VUUR, ex-Stream of Passion) - bass
• Sir-Joost van den Broek (Star One, Supersonic Revolution, ex-After Forever) - keyboards
• Ben Mathot - violin
• Jurriaan Westerveld - cello
No, Stream of Passion are back together copy/paste
Hello Danny, where an i find the stories of all his songs?
Garden Of Emotions Live was recorded during a spectacular live performance in 2019 of the third Ayreon album ‘Into The Electric Castle’. Over four nights at Tilburg’s 013 venue (the scene of Lucassen’s Ayreon Universe series of live shows in 2017) Lucassen, his band and one of modern progressive music’s most emphatic of casts celebrated the 20th anniversary of ‘Into the Electric Castle’ in front of 12,000 adoring fans from 64 different countries who had flown in from around the world.
Artists in this song: John de Lancie, Arjen Lucassen, Anneke van Giersbergen, Edwin Balogh, John Jaycee Cuijpers, Damian Wilson, Simone Simons, Edward Reekers
The ones missed out by others are, the bald guy is Edwin Balogh and John “Jaycee” Cuijpers (Praying Mantis) sang alongside him and the other guy with the stick at the end is Edward Reekers (solo and previously Kayak)
The Roman, the Barbarian and Future man.
I don't know if you recognized the guy in the intro? That's John de Lancie, Q from Star Trek.
The other two ladies on the wall is Marcela Bovio And Dianne van Giersbergen (No relation with Anneke).
Oh I recognize him from Star Trek now you mention it! 🖖
@@ThomFoolery1 that is the reason one of the public was dressed in a star trek uniform. 😉
Hey Thomas, nice to see you doing some Ayreon again! In that concert they performed the album The Electric Castle and some extra songs (Other Tales). The narrator was John DeLancie, who is best known for playing Q in StarTrek.
If you are interested in a deep-dive into the show, I might have a link to the whole concert and permission from Arjen to share it for reactions. 🙂
Good reaction. As seen on UA-cam the shows are always great. There will be a liveshow this year with lots of guest-artists. Got a ticket. There was also some BAD news, Arjen said. He would be singing some lines himself. 😂 The whole city of Tilburg (Netherlands) will become Ayreon-city. Thanks for this reaction.
Sorry but all 5 shows are sold out (within 5 min)
I'll be at 2 of them, all the way from Australia. Then my friend's band is playing a Euro Tour at the time.
You lucky one! Sale started whil I was working, so no ticket for me to either of the 6 shows. 😔
Twisted Coil same concert. Damian gets his name chanted at the end of the song Damian hits that emotion.
What else can we say about Ayreon? Just fantastic.
Off topic, that shirt of yours... Fancy.
Hi Thuomas so Happy to se you're Back doing reactions, missed you . Hope all is good and we see More of you in The future.
Fantastic !
Glad to see you're back with the usual fresh youthful enthusiasm exploring and enjoying Ayreon's treat fest again. :)
A few thoughts and suggestions came to mind:
* Yes, Arjen is kinda uncomfortable performing on stage, but he's okay in this setting anyway. May wanna check out his tea time interview with The Charismatic Voice, Elizabeth. Also: his performances with The Gentle Storm in Zoetermeer (full show with both gentle and storm track versions) and footage of their acoustic tour shows in Poland or Bulgaria (just Arjen and Anneke).
* King Crimson was both mentioned as source of inspiration by Arjen and The Gathering.
* Check out his latest Star One releases.
Oh, and I'd love to see you get a better idea of where Anneke started, with The Gathering, and how that band influenced so many in gothic/melodic/melancholic prog/metal and whatnot. I know you know Devin Townsend Project, but idk if you're familiar with The Gathering. If not ... ye, where to start, ehm, such a broad musical spectrum really ...: Their live DVD's 'In Motion' and 'A Sound Relief' would get you a decent overview. They're available on YT. Enjoy!
Oh, and for reaction videos: TG25 concert performances of 'Travel', 'Waking Hour' and 'On Most Surfaces'. They'll blow you away.
Thanks very much! Lots of great things to explore I see. Cheers!
one of the best riffs ever
Great reaction Thom! It's been way too long watching/hearing Ayreon. Never saw this one though, so it was absolutely a highlight on my furthermore very drousy lousy Monday, so thanks for this one! 🤘
Great to see you enjoying some Ayreon 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
Super Nice shirt , good taste 😊👍👍
Listen how humble and a bit of afraid to be "in the spotlight" for Arjen is during his (11 minutes) speech on stage about project "UNIVERSE" : ua-cam.com/video/Oe17o7jSXUg/v-deo.html&ab_channel=Ricamros
Speech in English but ..... subs are also available.
Damn man love that shirt!
It is an opera. Nothing less. Who puts it all together musically? Joost van den Broek does, he has an insane sense of rhytm. The opera starts out with "Isis and Osiris". Five contestants come in there, the Highlander, the Indian, the Egyptian, the Roman and the Knight. Then in the "Amazing Flight" the Hippie and the Barbarian enter. This is a very funny song.. The first to perish is the Highlander (played by Fish) . He already has lost his way. The Futureman has entered. More contestants will lose their life. The Egyptian so disappointed that her Gods do not appear wants to be buried in "The valley of the Queens"... With a guest singer... The Indian is so enamoured with the nature and spirit forces that she calls death over her.. Played by Simone and two of her growling Epica band mates.
Arjen does not like to be on stage anymore, but then who else could sing the role of the hippie? He is great in this role.About ten years ago Arjen and other Dutch artists combined to make a version of the song Power of Love (Frankie goes to Hollywood, eighties) for a good cause ua-cam.com/video/zRh60UXUdeE/v-deo.html Correct me if I am wrong, but you are a British enjoyer? I am Dutch myself, I think sometimes there is difference in transatlantic interpretations.
Dank je Erick! Yes he is perfect for that role indeed! ✌️
Yes I am British but live in Canada so my accent is a little mixed up 😅
How tf did he get John deLancie (Q from Star Trek) for this???
😁🇫🇮💙🪄🎼✨💯🤘
After....months🤔 how about some Nightwish 🎶🎢ride throw the ✨
Moi! 👋 I would but I've basically seen and watched everything after seeing them live last year. But I will definitely react when the new album comes out. 😄🤘
Commenters, if you are going to copy/paste, update Stream of Passion info, they're back together doing shows.
Welcome to the cult :D
